20 Things to do in Florence, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (FIRENZE)
Florence: when it comes to Renaissance art, there’s probably no better city in the world to soak it all in!
Our time here was spent viewing works by Italian masters both in museums and public spaces, marvelling at the architecture - in particular Florence Cathedral and its massive dome, going in search of the best lookout points, and eating plenty of pizza & gelato sharing the best things to do in Florence on your visit.
We paid 15 Euros for a ticket that gave us access to 5 attractions associated with Florence Cathedral. Giotto’s Campanile, the bell tower stands 84.7 metres with 414 steps.
We made our way over to our next attraction: the Baptistry. Known as both the Florence Baptistry and the Baptistry of Saint John.
We continued to Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, which is a museum dedicated to conserving artworks relating to Florence Cathedral.
It was time to climb the dome of Florence Cathedral. We ate our gelato at Grom and it was delicious.
The Uffizi Gallery is considered one of the best museums in the world focusing on the Italian Renaissance. Most of the art collection you see today was gifted to the city of Florence by Anna Maria Luisa, the last Medici heiress.
From Uffizi Gallery you get some pretty cool views of Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River from a higher vantage point.
We visited in Florence was Piazza della Signoria, an L-shaped square right in the heart of the city. A landmark in this square is Palazzo Vecchio or the Town Hall. And to the right of this building, you have the Loggia dei Lanzi.
Speaking of David, we did find him, over at Galleria dell’Accademia. Michelangelo’s David depicts the Biblical David carved out of a single block of marble.
Ponte Vecchia during the 16th century that one of the Medici ordered for the butcher shops to be replaced with jewellers.
When it comes to sunset in Florence, there are no better views than from Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking the historic center on the other side of the Arno River.
This indoor market is foodie central with the second floor of the market is filled with eateries. Central Market is a great place to pick up ingredients to bring back to your kitchen.

Hopped on the train with G and went to Venice. I’m on a mission to find Coffee Shops that allow laptops and working. Met up with a friend and her pup and had lunch in the Jewish Ghetto at Gam Gam.

Flying The Mountain Trails in Aviano Italy
Just North of the city of Aviano there is a mountain trail called Forra del Cunath. It’s a great place to hike and enjoy the views.

We started the day with a podcast and writing out some things we are thankful for then headed to the market for coffee and shopping. Then we split up to run some errands and Mary went on a walk with our friend Diana. We ended the night with crud practice at Aviano Air Base.

Aviano, Italy - Living in Aviano, Italy (Oct '14)
We have been settled in for about 6 months now. It was quite the process moving here and getting settled in. First of all, Aviano has no on-base housing for their military members. We live out in the Italian community with Italian landlords. It was quite chaotic, especially when the landlord doesn't speak or understand a hint of English. There was a lot of hand/pointy talky going on. Luckily for us, our landlord speaks and understands a little English... If all else fails... He calls upon his 2 sons to translate in between. Talk about lost in translation. Since we've been here, we have been to quite a few cities and countries to explore. I will be posting all of our visits here. Hope you enjoy!

We drove to Milan and spent the day in a cute little cafe working on our computers and planning trips. The weather was sunny then hailing then raining, it kept us on our toes. We ate poke bowls from BoMaki for lunch and Thai food for dinner, can you tell we were excited to have something other than Italian food.

Grabbed a coffee and drove to the dress shop to pick up Brooklyn’s wedding gown. It was so exciting to see the final product because I had been there when she had her first dress experience.

A Naming is a party thrown by some of the newer spouses of the squadron. They provide food, entertainment, and drinks. It’s a fun chance for the spouses to get to know each other better and come up with nicknames. This theme was 90s/2000s and they went all out with ring pops, chokers, tattoos, and of course butterfly clips.

Great place for dinner that feels like eating at your grandparents house. When taking our order the nonno (Italian grandpa) sat down next to us and gave recommendations for wine and dishes. The owner of the wine we drank was sitting at the table next to us and everyone was so welcoming and kind. All of our food was amazing and we’ll absolutely return
MANIAGO ITALY // WHERE TO BUY THE BEST KNIVES //Day trip from Aviano
We took a day trip from Aviano to grab a knife set before we PCS! We got a white knife set and ate at a delicious restaurant. Watch this to avoid making the mistake we made!

A June Weekend Living In Aviano, Italy | Sacile | Crud | Aviano Air Base | Canevando |
Weekend in the life while my husband is stationed at Aviano Air Force Base in Italy
Thursday
Two friends' fini flights and a hail and farewell at the squadron bar
Friday
We had a crud tournament where we played against the other teams on base
Saturday
South Korea party where we all dressed in our San or Kunsan Air Force Base swag, drank soju, and ate ramen
Final spritz to say goodbye to friends then dinner at Le Contrade
Sunday
Canevando is a big event in Prosecco road where there are several groups that walk to 5 different wineries. At each winery 2 types of Prosecco are served along with food. It was a great experience but very hot and an incredibly long day
Aviano Air Base in Italy has been such a unique assignment. On the one hand I feel so lucky to be able to travel so much, but on the other hand it is a lot harder to form friendships as quickly as Kunsan Air Base in South Korea. There are still some great people I just thought the community would be tighter like South Korea, but you know what they say when you assume...
