Places to visit in Melbourne Williamstown Beach Australia 4K | Shot on DJI Mavic Air 2

Williamstown Beach is located just south of the Williamstown Railway Station. It is also backed by the Esplanade, making it a very accessible beach. A foreshore reserve is located at the eastern end and contains the Anglers Club, the pier, a car park, a park and a picnic area. The Williamstown Swimming and Surf Life Saving Club, formed in 1922, is located at the western end next to the Baths. The beach is 550 m long and faces almost due south. It receives waves during strong southerlies. These waves have built a wide, sandy beach fronted by an attached bar that widens to the west. At low tide, it can be a 100 m wade before you can swim off the bar.

Swimming
Safest at the western end, where the surf club patrols the beach and the bar is relatively shallow. There are many rocks at the Pavilion end of the beach, and the holes off the end of the rock groyne are a danger to non-swimmers.

Surfing
Only during south-westerly winds and waves.

Fishing
The eastern pier and rocks to either end are the best locations, providing access to deeper water.

General
An attractive, well laid-out beach and reserve, with all the usual public amenities, except for a lack of public toilet facilities.

Edithvale Wetlands & Patterson River Walk

First time using my new GoPro Hero 10! A perfect sunny day to walk through Edithvale Wetlands, walk along Patterson River and then chill at Carrum Beach before heading back! Overall walked 12.5km

Aerial view - Historic images - Walkaround : Mordialloc Victoria Australia

Mordialloc is a beachside suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 24 km (14.9mi) south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Kingston local government area. Mordialloc recorded a population of 8,886 at the 2021 census.

Originally Moody Yallock, the name is derived from the term moordy yallock which originated from the Aboriginal language Boonwurrung, in which yallock means creek or water, and is listed in some sources as meaning muddy creek, and in others as little sea and noting from 1850 the site of the Mordialloc Aboriginal Reserve.

Mordialloc was originally established as a fishing village, and a firm of fish dealers named Wren Bros. built stables and men’s quarters near the Creek in the vicinity of what is now Main Street.

Mordialloc Post Office opened on 17 October 1863. In 1995 it was renamed Braeside Business Centre, and a new Mordialloc office opened near the railway station.

The namesake Mordialloc Creek is arguably the most significant feature of the suburb. Home to Pompei's boat works, Mordialloc Creek has a rich history of traditional wooden boat building. Many classic boats line the banks of the creek. The creek mouth section below Nepean Highway is also home to the Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club and Mordialloc Sailing Club, and the creek drains into the Beaumaris Bay flanked by the Mordialloc Pier.
The Mordialloc Creek was an essential element in the natural drainage of the Carrum Swamp. The mouth of the creek became silted and a drain for surrounding districts. Boats were sitting on mud. Septic run off and industrial waste were the main pollutants. Various solutions to the problems were proposed by individuals and governments but it took fifty years for successful actions to be initiated.

The first bridge across Point Nepean Road at Mordialloc was completed in the late 1890s. Thirty-seven years later it was labelled a hazard and bottle neck. By 1963 the Minister of Transport announced the ‘Death Trap’ was to go. Construction began in January 1965 and the first Melbourne Frankston train crossed the new bridge on 18 December 1965.

On 8 June 2018, a pilot of a Moorabbin-bound light plane, Cessna 172 (VH-EWE), died when his plane crashed and burst into flames in a street in Mordialloc. ATC (Air Traffic Control) recordings indicated he had an engine failure on approach.
