Worcester MA - 10 best things to do in Worcester

Worcester is city with a lot happening, we’re a place for business, a college town, a medical center and fun place to be. We’re right in the middle of state so whether you’re driving or flying we’re easy to get to.

Like many cities in Massachusetts we started life as a textile and manufacturing hub. Today the old mill buildings have been converted to lofts and office space and we’ve grown into a biotech, medical and business hotspot.

But we’re not just about working we educate too. Worcester is home to 7 colleges and universities. You’ll fine students and faculty everywhere! The education system is one of our major employers and keeps the city humming.

Need some culture, we’ve got that too. Check out our museums like the Worcester Art or Historical Museum. For music or live theatre it’s Mechanics Hall one of the oldest concert halls in the country. The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts brings Broadway shows. And Tuckerman Hall is home to the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.

Our DCU Center is the perfect location for conventions, concerts, and sporting events and home to our hockey team, the Worcester Sharks.

You’ll always find something to do, we’ve got plenty of parks, open space and neighborhoods. Shrewsbury Street is Worcester’s Little Italy and the Canal District has been redeveloped into a popular bar, restaurant and club scene. We’ve even got a golf course in our city, and Ward Ski area is just minutes away.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Worcester. Please contact the Worcester Regional Chamber of commerce for more information.

Worcester is a city in, and county seat of, Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. Named after Worcester, Worcestershire, England, as of the 2020 Census the city's population was 206,518, making it the second-most populous city in New England after Boston. Worcester is approximately 40 miles (64 km) west of Boston, 50 miles (80 km) east of Springfield and 40 miles (64 km) north-northwest of Providence. Due to its location near the geographic center of Massachusetts, Worcester is known as the Heart of the Commonwealth; a heart is the official symbol of the city.

Worcester developed as an industrial city in the 19th century due to the Blackstone Canal and rail transport, producing machinery, textiles and wire. Large numbers of European immigrants made up the city's growing population. However, the city's manufacturing base waned following World War II. Long-term economic and population decline was not reversed until the 1990s, when higher education, medicine, biotechnology, and new immigrants started to make their mark. The city's population has grown by 28% since 1980, reaching a new all-time high in the 2020 census and experiencing urban renewal.

Modern Worcester is known for its diversity and large immigrant population, with significant communities of Vietnamese, Brazilians, Albanians, Puerto Ricans, Ghanaians, Dominicans, and others. 22% of Worcester's population was born outside the United States. A center of higher education, it is home to eight separate colleges and universities, including Holy Cross, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and Clark University. Architecturally, Worcester is notable for its large number of 19th century triple-decker houses, Victorian-era mill architecture, and lunch car diners such as Miss Worcester.

Worcester is the principal city of Central Massachusetts, and is a regional government, employment and transportation hub. Since the 1970s, and especially after the construction of Route 146 and interstates 90, 495, 190, 290, and 395, both Worcester and its surrounding towns have become increasingly integrated with Boston's suburbs. The Worcester region now marks the western periphery of the Boston-Worcester-Providence (MA-RI-NH) U.S. Census Combined Statistical Area (CSA), or Greater Boston.

Abandoned Quarries - Milford, NH

Best viewed in 1080p60.
Today’s adventure brought us to Milford and Amherst, NH to explore some abandoned granite quarries. Milford, NH is also known as the Granite Town due to the large amount of granite that came from there. The granite pillars around the US Treasury building came from Milford. You can see what they look like if you look at the back of a $10 bill.

Lost Village of West Rutland, Ma - Abandoned Structures and Cellar Holes

Today's Adventure took us to the Rutland Ma to explore the Lost Village of West Rutland Ma. Rutland, Massachusetts is the center of Massachusetts. The exact spot has a tree growing there called the central tree. We went in search of past history and to find old cellar holes and artifact of the old village that was taken by eminent domain because it was in the Ware River watershed which was being used for the Quabbin Reservoir. We also explored an deserted island on Long Pond to find an abandoned structure.
We wanted to say Thank You to the Rutland Historical Society for their help to make this video.

Exploring ABANDONED Bancroft's Castle (Groton, MA)

J-MASS INSTAGRAM: @jmassofficial

Join me as I explore the ruins of Bancroft's Castle in Groton, Massachusetts! Built in 1906 by Massachusetts soldier and politician General William Bancroft, this never-fully-finished castle had quite a history, changing hands several times--after being sold by Bancroft in 1918, it would become a tuberculosis sanatorium, and then later, in the 1930s, a festivities building for a fox hunting club. Today, the cobblestone ruins of this amazing castle stand at the top of Gibbet Hill, and you are free to explore them, from the mansion itself to the nearby tower.

I've explored Bancroft's Castle several times, and it is truly a great place to go and see if you love scenic hikes with a historical edge. The views at the top of Gibbet Hill are spectacular: you can see the town of Groton itself, as well as the surrounding countryside, and Mount Wachusett. There are often cows grazing in the fields beside the castle, making for a truly serene environment. Of course, the ruins of Bancroft's Castle itself are fun to explore; you can climb the cobblestone walls and see how far you can make it up the tower's face. Truly a one-of-a-kind piece of obscure Massachusetts history! If you guys liked this video, make sure to stay tuned for more exploration videos all across New England!
