Driving from Arverne, New York to Harriman State Park - 5K Amazing Scenic Roads of USA

In this scenic drive video, we are driving from Arverne to Harriman State Park. Our iron horse Nissan Rogue SV 2018 covered 57.4 miles along the Palisades Interstate Pkwy N and gave us the possibility to enjoy a ride along the Hudson River. At the beginning of the golden autumn, the trip pleased with the change in the color of the vegetation along the entire length of our journey.

We are starting our journey from Arverne NY and heading towards Harriman State Park. During our trip, we enjoyed the fascinating views. Despite the autumn days on the calendar, the weather pleased us with warm sun and clear sky, which only added to our joy. We were so captivated by this trip and the opportunity to explore the state of NY in this way that we decided to share it with you in a 5K scenic drive video!

Let's tell you a little about Arvern. The famous beach village on the Rockaway boardwalk, named after its creator, pleases tourists and permanent residents with beach bungalows, hotels with different pricing policies, and a lot of entertainment. And although natural disasters and lack of budgetary funds throughout the history of the area have often left ruins from the New York summer waterfront, by 2018 it has regained a residential and beautiful appearance.

Now let's talk a little about the endpoint of our trip. Harriman State Park is the second-largest park area in New York State. An interesting fact is that the creation of this park can be thanked to Mary Harriman, who allocated a huge plot of land and more than $ 1 million in memory of her husband. It is interesting to realize that Arverne, from which our journey began, was also created thanks to the suffering of the founder`s second half.

Join us and discover scenic roads from all over the world from the car window. And it is more pleasurable to drive with nice music in the background!

Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk

From surfers to swimmers to the Ramones, everyone wants to hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach. Rockaway Beach is a year-round resource for residents all along the Rockaway peninsula, and it comes alive each summer from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend with millions of visitors. In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which struck New York City in October 2012, Rockaway Beach has also become a testament to New York's resilience, and a model for sustainable rebuilding.

Beach goers can enjoy the sand and water, the variety of concessions, and the city's only legal surfing beach, located between 67-69 Street and 87-92 Street. Rockaway Beach is also home to a variety of playgrounds and other outdoor activities.

Ramones

Rockaway Beach is a song by the American punk rock band the Ramones from their 1977 album Rocket to Russia. The song was written by bassist Dee Dee Ramone in the style of the Beach Boys and early surf rock bands. The song is about Rockaway Beach in Queens, where Dee Dee liked to spend time. Guitarist Johnny Ramone claimed that Dee Dee was the only real beachgoer in the group. Released in 1977, it was the Ramones' highest-charting single in their career, peaking at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. In June 2013, the song was used in a radio ad campaign sponsored by Queens Economic Development Corporation to promote recovery from Hurricane Sandy by drawing New Yorkers back to Rockaway Beach.

Jacob Riis Park

Jacob Riis Park, also called Jacob A. Riis Park and Riis Park, is a seaside park on the southwestern portion of the Rockaway Peninsula in the New York City borough of Queens. It lies at the foot of the Marine Parkway–Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, east of Fort Tilden, and west of Neponsit and Rockaway Beach. Originally run by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, it is now part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area, and is managed by the National Park Service (NPS). It features an extensive sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean coastline and several historic Art Deco structures.

In 1912, the city, urged on by social journalist Jacob Riis, acquired the land for a park initially called Seaside Park and later Telawana Park. In 1914, the park was renamed for Riis. During World War I, the site was used as the Rockaway Naval Air Station, one of the first naval air stations in the United States and, in 1919, the launching point for the first transatlantic flight.

The signature bathhouse was built in 1932, but much of the park's infrastructure and approaches were built between 1936 and 1937 by New York City Parks Commissioner Robert Moses, who envisioned it as a getaway for New York City residents, like Jones Beach State Park further east on Long Island. The park was built along with the Marine Parkway Bridge and the Belt Parkway in nearby Brooklyn, which provided access to the park.

After a period of decline, Jacob Riis Park was transferred in 1974 to the control of the National Park Service. The Jacob Riis Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
