EASTERN SAMAR, HIDDEN GEM OF THE PACIFIC | PHILIPPINES Southeast Asia Travel Vlog
Eastern Samar is located at the eastern side of the Philippine's third largest island of Samar. Facing the Pacific Ocean, the province is gifted with many breathtaking spots seemingly etched by nature that remain unspoiled until today.
The province is rich in history. During his circumnavigation of the globe, Ferdinand Magellan set foot on the tiny island of Homonhon in the southern part of the province. On March 16, 1521, the area of what is now Eastern Samar is said to be the first Philippine landmass spotted by Magellan and his crew.
In 1944, combined Filipino-American troops involved in the liberation of the Philippines from Japan built the largest military base in the Pacific in the town of Guiuan.
These pictures were taken on separate visits, on December 2015 and same month of 2019.

Hernani Eastern Samar Today???? | CANHUGAS Nature Park????????
Hernani was founded around the year 1850 by a settler from Guiuan named Miguel Candido. Hernani, was created into a municipality by virtue of a Royal Order on January 4, 1864.
On October 12, 1897, giant tidal waves struck Hernani. More than 300 people were killed, and public buildings and houses were destroyed, including the newly–built stone church. Following the disaster, the survivors relocated the town center to a more secure place about one–half kilometer inland. This site is now the present location.
Immediately following the Philippine-American War, the political status of Hernani was reduced into a barrio under the jurisdiction of Lanang (now Llorente). In 1912, its status as a municipality was restored but the seat of local government was transferred to Pambujan (now General MacArthur). However, in 1926, the municipality of Hernani regained back the township by virtue of an Executive Order issued by then American Government–General Leonard Wood.

Dagway: Arteche and Jipapad
Dagway [face, image, appearance] is a graduation pictorial project for Grade 6 students from selected schools in Eastern Samar. After almost two months of planning and preparation, the first photo session opened in Arteche on March 5 for around 300 students and teachers from five public elementary schools. The project team then went to Jipapad the following day to take photos of another 150 students and teachers from four schools.
Dagway is a project of Borongan Digital Photography Forum (BDPF) and Go Borongan, in coordination with the Department of Education, Eastern Samar Division.
