Hare Krishna! Welcome to Sri Navadvipa Mandal Parikrama - Episode 4: Miracles in Mayapur
Generally the Supreme Lord is invisible to the eyes of ordinary people, who are lacking in spiritual knowledge. Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita (7.25), “I am not manifest before all people, for I am covered by My yoga-maya, or spiritual energy.” In Mayapur, however, He drew back the curtain of His maya and revealed Himself, with His associates and His wonderful activities, before the eyes of all. For this reason, Sri Mayapur is a dear place especially for those sincerely trying to follow the instructions of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Lord Chaitanya appeared 5 centuries ago to inaugurate the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. He and His associates performed congregational chanting of the holy names for the benefit of all.
We'll begin today's parikrama by visiting the sacred site where Mother Parvati did austerities inorder to receive the mercy of the Golden Avatar.
Sri Navadvipa consists of 9 Islands namely:
Antardvipa
Simantadvipa
Godrumadvipa
Madhyadvipa
Koladvipa
Rtudvipa
Jahnudvipa
Modadrumadvipa
Rudradvipa
Each of these 9 Islands has a high spiritual significance and is imbibed with transcendental qualities. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to frequently visit these islands with His associates and encourage the congregational chanting of the holy names of Lord Krishna.
Every year, devotees take pleasure in traversing these islands, visiting various temples along the banks of river Ganga and reminiscing the pastimes of Lord Chaitanya. Particularly during the period of Gaura Purnima (March 18th), the divine appearance day of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
