Ambato, también conocida como San Juan Bautista de Ambato, es una ciudad ecuatoriana; cabecera cantonal del Cantón Ambato y capital de la Provincia de Tungurahua, así como la urbe más grande y poblada de la misma. Se localiza al centro de la Región interandina del Ecuador, en la hoya del río Patate, atravesada por el río Ambato, a una altitud de 2580 msnm y con un clima andino de 15°C en promedio.
Es llamada Ciudad de las Flores y las Frutas, o también Cuna de los Tres Juanes. En el censo de 2010 tenía una población de 165.185 habitantes, lo que la convierte en la décima ciudad más poblada del país. La ciudad es el núcleo del área metropolitana de Ambato, la cual está constituida además por ciudades y parroquias rurales cercanas. El conglomerado alberga a 489.537 habitantes, y ocupa la quinta posición entre las conurbaciones del Ecuador.
La ciudad fue destruida varias veces por terremotos y erupciones volcánicas. El último de estos terremotos se dio el 5 de agosto de 1949, un terremoto con epicentro en la ciudad de Pelileo, en el sector conocido como Chacauco; afectó a Ambato en casi su totalidad, pero gracias a la tenacidad de sus habitantes, logró levantarse nuevamente en menos de dos años. Es uno de los más importantes centros administrativos, económicos, financieros y comerciales del Ecuador. Las actividades principales de la ciudad son el comercio, la industria y la agricultura.

Quito is the closest capital city to the equator at 0 Degree 15’ 0” S. It lies in the northern highlands and Guayllabamba river basin. As the second highest capital city in the world, Quito’s altitude is 2820 m (9,250 ft). Ecuador lies where the Pacific plates meet the northern Andes on the Avenue of Volcanoes. 7 of the 47 volcanos in Ecuador surround Quito. The city lies on the eastern slopes of Pichincha and it’s the only city this close to an active volcano. It last erupted in 1999. Other volcanoes near Quito include the renowned Cotopaxi and Quilotoa.
Quito is home to about 2.8 million people. However, the city is very narrow, fitting into this high mountain valley and pushing up the sides of the mountains. Therefore, the only places left to grow are to the north and south. Because of its altitude and location near the equator, Quito has a constant cool climate with average temperatures ranging in daytime at 70.5 F (21.4 C) and nighttime at 49.6 F (9.8 C). However, it has 2 seasons: dry season from June – August and wet season from September – May. April is the rainiest month.

Ambato, Ecuador | Traveling Coronavirus Ecuador
This series will be less about Ecuador, and more about traveling in the time of covid-19. Ecuador is definitely feeling the effects of Coronavirus. All the hospitals beds in Quito are full, and the number of cases are going up. We've been keeping ourselves safe, locked up in our home for the past 4 months. But Ecuador's economy is also suffering horribly. Oil prices have crashed. China has stopped importing shrimp from Ecuador. The tourism industry has essentially been put on pause... until now. We've decided to travel Ecuador in the time of Coronavirus. We love travel, it's who we are, so not doing it for the entire summer seems almost impossible. It was a difficult decision, and it may seem like a greedy act, but there are people all over the country that rely on the tourism industry. When we booked our first guesthouse, the reply we got from the owners melted our hearts. They said we were the first booking they had in months and they were very excited for us to come.
We will be taking all precautions, wearing masks at all times, sanitizing our hands frequently, and we will avoid all crowds. Ecuador has some of the strictest Covid-19 regulations in the world. The numbers are only going up because people are not following the rules. If we are careful and we abide by them, I think we can safely help the tourism industry, and really connect with the culture.
Our first destination is Ambato, the capital of Tungurahua province. It's a city surrounded by some of South America's biggest mountains.

ROAD TO 10 EPIC WATERFALLS IN BANOS | ECUADOR TRAVEL VLOG 2021
We rented an ATV and drove down a road with 10 EPIC WATERFALLS in Banos Ecuador! To be honest, Banos de Agua Santa completely stole our hearts. From the lush green mountains, to the waterfalls towering out of them, Banos is full of epic scenery. The route we took is called Ruta de las Cascadas or the Route of Waterfalls. On this drive we got to visit the largest waterfall in Ecuador, Pailon del Diablo. This video is truly an adventure and we highly recommend visiting Banos in Ecuador for yourself!
