Satna is a city in the Satna District of Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is home for district's administrative headquarters. Satna district has some major religious tourism spots including Chitrakoot and Maihar. Satna is connected to the longest National Highway: NH-7. The nearest major airport to Satna is Jabalpur Airport which is approximately 200 kilometers from the city. Other nearest airport is Khajuraho airport which is approximately 112 kilometer from city.

सतना जिला मध्य प्रदेश का एक जिला है। इसका मुख्यालय सतना में स्थित है। सतना जिला रीवा संभाग के अंतर्गत आता है। मुख्यालय के शहर के नाम पर सतना जिले का नाम रखा गया। इसकी सीमा उत्तर में उत्तर प्रदेश के बांदा जिला से लगी हुई है। जिले की पूर्वी सीमा रीवा जिले की त्यौंथर, सिरमौर और हुजूर तहसील से तथा सीधी जिले की गोपदबनास तहसील से लगी हुई है। जिले की सम्पूर्ण पश्चिम सीमा पन्ना जिले तथा दक्षिणी सीमा कटनी जिले की मुरवारातथा उमरिया जिले की बांधवगढ़ तहसील और शहडोलजिले की ब्यौहारी तहसील से लगी हुई है। सतना जिला विंध्य पठार के लगभग १०,००० से ११,००० फीट की ऊचाई पर स्थित है। जिले का दक्षिणी भाग नागोद तहसील के २४ डि. ३०’ उत्तरी अक्षांश पर स्थित है जहां ऊंची-नीची पहाड़ियां है। तहसील का दक्षिणी भाग ८०० फीट की ऊंचाई पकरस्थित है। सतना जिला अनेक बड़े काम करके इतिहास बनाने वालों का इलाका रहा है उसी मे पूरे सतना जिले मे अब तक व्यक्तिगत रूप से world record बनाकर पूरे मध्यप्रदेश का नाम ऊँचा करने वाले आदित्य सिह जी भी सतना स्थित उचेहरा के निवासी हैं जिन्होने १ मिनट मे १५७ से अधिक पुश अप करके सतना का नाम दुनिया मे ऊँचा किया है..फिलहाल वो अभी पतञ्जलि योगपीठ हरिद्वार मे आचार्य के रूप मे अध्ययन अध्यापन कर रहे हैं।
सतना जिला ऐतिहासिक रूप से बघेलखंड क्षेत्र में आता है। इस पर रीवा राजघराने का शासन था। बाद में इस पर अंग्रेजी हुकूमत का आधिपत्य हो गया। इनमें मैहर, नागौद. कोठी, जासो, सोहावल और बारौधा और चौबे जागीर में पालदेव, पहरा, तरौन, भैसुंदा और कामता-राजुला थे। बौद्ध धर्म की किताब और महाभारत में भी इसका उल्लेख है।

Amarpatan is located at 24.32°N 80.98°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 358 metres (1174 feet). Multiple villages surround the city. It is on National Highway No.7 and connects Rewa to Jabalpur which is one of the busiest highway in India, various other state highways are passing through the city. It is located at right in the center of Satna district. Amarpatan has various tourist spots nearby like Mukundpur white tiger safari, Markandeya Ashram (more of Bansagar Dam), spiritual Maa sharda devi temple, Ramvan and many more. But it lacks of railways that makes the region partially undeveloped.

Satna City: State of Madhya Pradesh
The Satna City (Cement City), is the principle town of Satna District (सतना) of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, which shares a border with neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
Satna - not to be confused with Satana - is a municipal corporation within Satna District, and houses the administrative headquarters of Satna District.
Satna has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship initiative the Smart Cities Mission
Location:
Satna district is situated between latitudes 23 58' and 2512' north and longitudes 8021' and 8123' east in mid northern part of Rewa Commissioner's Division in Madhya Pradesh state of India. The districts takes its name from Satna, the chief municipality of the district, which in its turn takes it from the Satna Rewa river which flows near the town.In the north, the district share borders with the Banda District of Uttar Pradesh state.
Eastern Bombay of the district runs with the Teonther, Sirmour and Huzur tehsils of Rewa district and a very small questions of the Gopadbanas tehsil of Sidhi District. The entire western boundary of the district is made by Panna district while the southern boundary abuts on the Murwara tehsil of Jabalpur district in the west and Bandhogarh tehsil of Umaria district and Beohari Tehsils of Shahdol district on the east.
Language and people
Hindi is the most commonly spoken language of the town. Some people speak Bagheli dialect which is a derivative of Hindi in this region. Other less-spoken languages include Sindhi, Punjabi, English, and Hindi. However, many people generally prefer speaking proper Hindi. Satna is the 7th most populated city in Madhya Pradesh.
Railways
Satna Junction railway station (IRCTC code STA) is a station in Western-Central railway division on the route between Jabalpur Junction and Allahabad. It is a junction and the branch goes to Rewa from here. The railway station has three platforms with all up going trains (trains in the direction of Mumbai) normally using platform number 1 and all down going (trains in direction of Allahabad-Manikpur) using platforms 2 and 3. Satna is well connected by train to almost all major cities of the countries. It lies on the Howrah–Allahabad–Mumbai line, a train route connecting Mumbai and Howrah. There is also a diesel depot for the Western Central Railway. Satna junction is the most prominent junction of the Jabalpur Railway division providing maximum income due to its high degree of loading and unloading of cement, petroleum etc. All trains passing from Satna Junction stop here which ultimately shows its importance. 3 of them have technical stoppage while the rest have commercial stoppage. ISO certified trains such as Rewanchal Express are the trains of the area.
