Баксан — районный центр Кабардино-Балкарии. Расположен город в 24 километрах от Нальчика. Рядом протекает река Баксан (приток Малки, входящий в бассейн Терека). В 100 километрах от города начинается Приэльбрусье — туристический и альпинистский центр горной России. Более 80% населения — кабардинцы, доля русского населения составляет 9,6 %. Город находится в зоне умеренно-холодного климата, температура колеблется от +26 летом до -26 градусов в зимнее время.
В долине реки Баксан кабардинцы живут с начала XVI века, о чем свидетельствуют 7 крепостей на берегах реки Баксан из 10 существующих в Кабарде, а история Баксана начинается с 1922 года, когда на месте его нынешнего расположения было сооружено русское военное укрепление, входившее в Кавказскую военную линию. В конце 1860-х годов рядом с укреплением возникло кабардинское село Кучмазукино (переименовано в 1920 году в Старую Крепость). В 1891 году к западу от русского укрепления выходцы из Украины и центральных районов России основали село Баксан. Старая Крепость и Баксан к 1960 году объединились под общим названием Баксан, который получил статус города в 1967 году.
Заметные исторические события на территории города не проходили, но и в стороне от них он не оставался. Баксан внес свой вклад в победу во время Великой Отечественной войны. Около 3 000 человек воевало на разных фронтах, а население города вносило посильную материальную лепту. За активное участие жителей в строительстве 2-х танковых колонн, городом была получена благодарность от И.В. Сталина.
В настоящее время Баксан — это промышленный центр (завод «Автозапчасть», «Лимб», ткацко-трикотажное объединение, фабрика меховых изделий, консервный завод, кирпичный завод) и сосредоточение крупных кукурузоводческих хозяйств. Выше по течению реки Баксан, недалеко от города находится Баксанская ГЭС — источник электроэнергии для региона.
На юго-западной окраине города ведется разработка залежей глины, а на юго-востоке — песчано-гравийный карьер. Оба этих месторождения служат сырьевой базой не только для местной, но и федеральной промышленности.
Культурно-исторических достопримечательностей, как таковых, в Баксане нет, однако в 100 километрах от него стоит гора Эльбрус — высочайшая вершина России, где русские и иностранные туристы занимаются альпинизмом и горными лыжами. На турбазах функционируют канатная дорога, комфортабельные гостиницы, рестораны, бары и кафе.

Great Alternative to FORCLAZ MT900 Trekking Poles - ALTUS BAMBU Folding Poles |Review and Comparison
In today’s video we are bringing you a trekking pole gear review – of the new poles we acquired recently- Altus Bambu. When searching for the new pair we wanted to try out a different technology of folding the poles and looked at the weight and compactness characteristics. Altus is a new brand to us that we discovered not so long ago when searching for some new good quality trekking poles. As you may know already we are used to the Decathlon Forclaz brand and have been using their trekking poles for the last couple of years. We have been hesitating between these Altus bamboo and Forclaz MT900 trekking poles but finally decided to grab the Altus ones. In this video, we are going to share all the technical characteristics of these new poles and demonstration of use, their benefits and drawbacks we found and also do a bit of a comparison with the Forclaz MT900 trekking poles. Let’s dive straight in!
