Top 10 Winter Switzerland - Christmas and more! [Travel Guide]
Winter in Switzerland is a great season, as there are plenty of great things to do! Especially up in the Swiss Alps, there will be a lot of snow. There will be no greens during Winter and thus, the activities during the white season will very much differ from Summer. Winter is the season for skiing, Christmas, sledding, carnival and snow in general. Having travelled across the country during this season, I present you the Top 10 attractions of Switzerland during Winter.
Up in the Swiss Alps, there are many beautiful villages that appear specially nice during Winter. For example Grimentz is very much worth to visit during this time. Just nearby, there is the Zinal Glacier that looks very fascinating with its natural ice cave. You will need to go for a two hours’ winter hike to reach the glacier. December marks the beginning of Winter and also of Christmas season. Visit the many Christmas markets all around the country, in the larger cities or in the villages. During this month, many towns transform into charming Winter wonderland. Sledding is another great and fun activity to go for during Winter. Great toboggan runs (tracks) are up in Andermatt at the Nätschen or at Bergün. Feel the thrill of the speed while going downhill. Great views you can get at the Grindelwald First, you will see the many peaks of the Swiss Alps and also can go for skiing. Very enjoyable is the cliff walk at the Grindelwald First that takes you around a massive rock. Also consider visiting the village of Grindelwald itself. Zermatt is a very highlight of Winter up in the Swiss Alps. During this season, you will often get unobstructed views to the Matterhorn, the landmark of Switzerland. There are various places from where you can get a brilliant view over the Matterhorn: At Zermatt village itself, Sunegga, Blauherd, the Rothorn or the Gornergrat. All in all, so many great things to do during Winter in Switzerland.

Malerweg etappe 4 Altendorf- Neumannmühle

Wat mij betreft de koningsetappe van de Malerweg. Loodzwaar, erg lang, maar wat een prachtige hoogtepunten.
Via camping Ostrauer Mühle gaat het meteen flink omhoog naar het prachtige Große Schramsteintor. Het uitzicht vanaf Schrammsteinaussicht is net geen 360° maar adembenemend mooi.
De Gratweg is uitdagend, uitzichten aan beide kanten. De Breite Kluftaussicht heb ik al eens eerder gezien, geweldig! Helaas was daar geen schaduw, het was snikheet.
Het laatste hoogtepunt was de Kuhstall, een enorme rotsbrug. De Himmelsleiter sloeg ik over, geen energie meer en ik had 'm al eens beklommen.
Een adembenemende tocht die moeilijk overtroffen kan worden.

De Malerweg, volgens kenners de mooiste lange afstands wandeling van Duitsland. De tocht gaat langs de highlights van de Sächsische Schweiz, de lat ligt dus enorm hoog.
De eerste etappe brengt me over bijna 12 kilometer van Liebethaler Grund naar Stadt Wehlen.
'Grund' begrijp ik tijdens het lopen, staat hier voor een kloof, en kloven kom ik tegen! Met name de Uttewalder Grund is adembenemend mooi! Via deze kloven, bos, maar ook landbouwwegen kom ik in Stadt Wehlen aan de Elbe. De trein brengt me terug naar Pirna, waar ik op een P+R parkeerterrein gratis (!) naast het station kan parkeren.
Met het €9 ticket is al het vervoer trouwens spotgoedkoop.

The journey time between Zürich and St. Gallen is around 1h 5m and covers a distance of around 84 km.

Etappe drie van de Malerweg brengt me van Hohnstein naar Altendorf. Onderweg passeer ik verschillende hoogtepunten. Absolute toppers zijn Brandaussicht en Waitzdorfaussicht. De Gautschgrotte, een echt highlight heb ik helaas gemist. Een prachtige route met veel en erg lange trappen....

When you visit Zurich in summer time you should take a lake cruise. There are departures half-hourly from Buerkliplatz at the end of the Bahnhofstrasse and there are cruises between 1,5 and 5 hours. The Malerweg is a 116km long trail in Saxon Switzerland, Germany. Also known as the Painters Way, it is one of the most picturesque hiking trails in Germany. This is Abbie and Anna's journey from Liebethal/Pirna, along the river Elbe and through the sandstone mountains through the most eastern part of Germany back to Pirna.

(from blog: 美しい景色を見ながら歩くコースだ。ワレンシュタットベルクの診療所（「Walenstadtberg, Reha-Klinik」）までバスで行ける。ここから急な上り坂を上る。コンクリート道路を歩くのが嫌いなら、シュワルディスまでの1時間はコンクリートロードだから、別のツアーにした方がいいかもしれない。私もコンクリートロードが好きではないが、周りの山、谷、ワールン湖の景色が本当に美しいから、いいかと思い、歩き出した。途中で「パクスマル（Paxmal）」という 平和の記念建造物がある。1924年から1949年にかけてカール・ビッケル氏によって建てられた。ビッケル氏はスイス郵便切手のグラフィックデザイナーであり、「パックスマーリ」を死後にスイス郵便に残した。パワースポットとも言われる場所であり、確かに心を動かした。シュヴァルディスから草地の小道を下り、崖の上にある森に歩いた。時々、奈落の底と崖の下が垣間見え、少し緊張した。ワレンシュタットベルクの「Walenstadtberg, alte Post」バス亭に着いたら、終了だ。A bus takes you all the way up to the clinic in Walenstadtberg. From here, the road leads you steeply uphill. If you hate walking on concrete roads, this tour might not be for you, since you'll be walking on one until Schwaldis Alp. The views up to the Churfirsten towering above and across the Walensee to the mountain panorama beyond make up for it though. Beautiful views abound! The Paxmal, a piece monument and labor of love, built by Karl Bickel between 1924 and 1949, is an additional attraction of this hike. Mr. Bickel was a graphic designer who created post stamps, among other things, and gifted the monument to the Swiss Post on his death. Called a power spot, the Paxmal is a very moving art piece and well worth the small detour. From Schwaldis, the path descends through grassy areas and enters the forest on top of cliffs. From time to time, you catch a glimpse of the abyss and the cliff faces below, which is rather thrilling. Be sure to pick a nice resting spot and enjoy the view, before returning to Walenstadtberg.
