Pāvilosta is a small port town in Latvia located at the mouth of Saka river in Courland.
DIKĻU PILS / DIKLI PALACE
Dikļu miža vēstures lappusēs minēta jau 15.gs., tās tagadējā ēka uzcelta 1896. gadā, kad tur saimniekoja barons Pauls fon Volfs, izveidojot izteiksmīgu neobaroka celtni. Šī brīža izskatu un eleganci pils atguva 2003. gadā, kad pilnībā tika restaurēta, respektējot visu senatnīgo – no pagraba līdz pat bēniņiem. Pils ansamblī ir arī klēts, kas ir vecāka par pašu pili un celta 18.gs. beigās ar majestātisku vērienu. Kopā ar daudziem vēsturiskiem dārgumiem, kas saglabāti, pateicoties tās īpašnieka gādībai, joprojām iespējams atklāt pils senatnīgo burvību un izzināt tās noslēpumus. Dikļu pils ir iekļauta Valsts arhitektūras pieminekļu sarakstā.

Jaunmoku Castle was built in 1901 as a summer residence for the mayor of Riga, George Armistead. It combines two types of architecture: Neo-Gothics and Art Nouveau.

Preserving Centuries
Preserving Centuries was produced in 2008 and 2009 as part of the UNESCO Nomination file. It's task was to visually describe the most important cultural values of the Suiti community. The film was created by SIA Labvakar. In the proces, some materials from the Latvian State Television archives and 1935 film Dzimtene sauc were also used. The film was made in Latvian (13 minutes) and English (10 minutes) versions. Production was possible thanks to financial support from UNESCO and Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation.

체메리 국립공원은 특히 독특한 습지로 유명한 곳이다. 습지로 가는 길은 소나무 숲으로 둘러싸여 있다. 한국의 소나무와 달리 일직선으로 뻗어 오른 모양새가 인상적이다. 안내인은 3.1km에 달하는 트레일을 따라 습지 전망대로 향했다. 조류 관찰을 위해 만들었다는 전망대로 곧장 올랐다. 전망대에 서자 5000ha, 여의도 약 6배 크기의 광활한 습지가 펼쳐진다. 이탄 습지로 불리는 이곳은 이탄이 쌓이면서 생겨난 것이다. 고위도 지방의 춥고 습한 지역에서 주로 형성된단다. “이 습지의 가장 중요한 역할 중 하나는 홍수를 막아준다는 거예요. 평상시에 엄청난 양의 물을 가두고 있다가 조금씩 내보내는 저장소 역할을 해 주죠. 그리고 공기를 정화시켜서 환경을 쾌적하게 해주는 역할도 합니다.” 습지는 이끼로 덮여있다. “이끼에 물이 가득해요. 물을 많이 머금고 있죠. 이끼들은 자기 부피의 25배의 물을 저장해요.” 이끼의 겉은 말라보였지만 속은 많은 물을 머금고 있다. 신기하게도 정말 많은 물이 나온다. 마치 푹신푹신한 스펀지 위를 걷는 느낌이다. 이끼는 일 년에 1mm 씩 자란다고 한다. 이곳의 이끼층은 약 9m. 그러니까 이 습지는 약 9000년 전부터 형성됐다는 것을 알 수 있다. 체메리의 습지는 특유의 생태계를 보여준다. 다양한 수생식물과 동물들이 서식하는데 라트비아에 있는 6개의 람사르 습지 중 하나다. 특히 200여종의 조류와 철새들을 볼 수 있어 많은 관광객들이 찾는단다. 습지에 고인 물은 잘 정화가 돼 있어 마실 수 있을 정도로 깨끗하다고 한다. 단맛이 느껴질 정도로 물맛이 상큼하다. 수 미터나 쌓여 있는 이끼 층이 물을 자연 정화시켜주고 있다. 놀라운 자연의 신비다. 저수지에 생긴 작은 둔덕에는 소나무가 자라고 있다. 잘 가꿔놓은 정원 같은 분위기다. 체메리 습지는 자연이 라트비아에 준 특별한 선물이란 생각이 들었다.
