Driving Around Downtown Iowa City, IA in 4k Video
Filmed on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, I drive around the city of Iowa City, Iowa to see what's happening.
Iowa City was the first capital city of the State of Iowa. The Old Capitol building is a National Historic Landmark in the center of the University of Iowa campus. The University of Iowa Art Museum and Plum Grove, the home of the first Governor of Iowa, are also tourist attractions. In 2008, Forbes magazine named Iowa City the second-best small metropolitan area for doing business in the United States.
Iowa City was created by an act of Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory on January 21, 1839, fulfilling the desire of Governor Robert Lucas to move the capital out of Burlington and closer to the center of the territory.
By June of that year, the town had been platted and surveyed from Brown St. in the north to Burlington St. in the south, and from the Iowa River eastward to Governor St.
While Iowa City was selected as the territorial capital in 1839, it did not officially become the capital city until 1841; after construction on the capitol building had begun. The capitol building was completed in 1842, and the last four territorial legislatures and the first six Iowa General Assemblies met there until 1857, when the state capital was moved to Des Moines.
Founded in 1847, today's University of Iowa offers more than 100 areas of study to 31,112 students. The university includes a medical school and one of the United States' largest university-owned teaching hospitals, providing patient care within 16 medical specialties. Iowa City is also the location of Mercy Hospital. The University of Iowa College of Law is located there.
City Plaza (commonly called the Pedestrian Mall or simply Ped Mall) serves as a gathering place for students and locals and draws large crowds for its summertime events such as the Friday Night Concert Series and the annual Iowa City Jazz Festival and Iowa City Arts Festival. The Ped Mall area contains restaurants, bars, retail, hotels, and the Iowa City Public Library. It is known for its appeal to various local artists and musicians, and its wild bar scene.
Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), the state's only comprehensive tertiary care medical center. The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center in Iowa City is an NCI-designated Cancer Center, one of fewer than 60 in the country.
ACT college testing services is headquartered in Iowa City.
In 2004, Forbes magazine named Iowa City the third Best Small Metropolitan Area in the United States.
In June 2006, Kiplinger's Personal Finance rated Iowa City No. 10 on its list of the Top 50 Smart Places to Live.
As of the census of 2010, there were 67,862 people, 27,657 households, and 11,743 families residing in the city.
The racial makeup of the city was 82.5% White, 5.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 6.9% Asian, 2.1% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,977, and the median income for a family was $57,568. Males had a median income of $35,435 versus $28,981 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,269. About 2.7% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 3.0% of those age 65 or over. #driving #travel #drivingtour

EL GOUNA, EGYPT?! Did you know about this AMAZING MAN MADE LUXURY CITY IN EGYPT on the Red Sea?
We didn't but as soon as we saw this beautiful destination we knew we had to visit! And it didn't disappoint. This luxury man made CITY in Egypt is full of the V.I.P experience. Although we did a budget vs bougie 2 part series for this video even our 'budget' accommodation was luxurious.
We count this part as a more bougie of the two accommodations.
The Three Corners Ocean View Hotel Prestige - Adults Only was an excellent choice and we enjoyed our time and the service of this hotel. We went on a full day LUXOR private tour which we decided to share in the next video.
El Gouna has quickly become one of our favourite destinations to the point that we are considering adding into our group trip plans for tour led travels with us next year!

Forest City, Iowa - Downtown Forest City (2022)
Forest City is a city in Hancock and Winnebago counties in the U.S. state of Iowa, and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 4,285 in the 2020 census, a decline from the 4,362 population in 2000.
Forest City was officially founded in 1855. Formerly known as “Puckerbrush”, Robert Clark the official founder/surveyor deemed it “Forest City” because it was cut right out of the trees. It was then platted in 1856, and later incorporated on June 14, 1878. The population started to grow when immigrants from Sweden and Norway settled in the Forest City because of the similar topography. Its growth continued when city leaders convinced Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad to come to Forest City. Although the Civil War stunted the city’s growth, many immigrants found the city attractive. Later on churches, banks, a college (Waldorf University), electricity, and the telephone turned Forest City into an ideal country town. Then in 1960, investors took over a failing travel trailer factory and created Winnebago Industries causing the population to grow exponentially. Winnebago's corporate headquarters were later relocated to Eden Prairie, Minnesota causing the population to decline. Today, Forest City’s population is around 4,200.
The Forest City Community School District operates a wind turbine that provides 60% of the energy needs of elementary, middle, and high school.
Forest City Christian School is an independent school district located in Forest City.
Forest City is the home of Waldorf University, a four-year liberal arts, for-profit university, owned by Mayes Education Inc.
Iowa Falls, IA | A 4K Jefferson Highway City Walking Tour
Iowa Falls, IA was formed in 1856. It was named from the falls on the Iowa River. The Illinois Central Railroad was built through Iowa Falls in 1866. The city is located on the historic Jefferson Highway and is also a major transportation hub for the Canadian National and Union Pacific Railroads. A landmark in the city is its movie theater. Built as the Metropolitan Opera House in 1899, it presented plays, operas, and vaudeville in the town during the first half of the twentieth century

Algonac State Park, Michigan - Campground Review
In this video, I review Algonac State Park located in Michigan’s Southeastern Lower Peninsula. This state park is situated along the shore of the St. Clair River and provides two unique camping experiences for campers to enjoy. The Riverfront Campground overlooks the shore of the St. Clair River and the Wagon Wheel Campground provides sites located inland. In this review I rate these campsites on five different criteria. Later in the video, I share my thoughts on the overall value of staying at this Michigan state campground.
