ALGARVE, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Places To Visit In The Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. Thanks to its year-round sunny weather and beautiful rugged coastline, it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Europe. In this video we highlight 10 diverse places to visit in the Algarve:

10. Sagres
Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.

9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.

8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.

☑️ Book a boat tour:

7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.

6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.

5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

???? Watch Lagos video:

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.

☑️ Book a tour to Monchique and Silves with Algarve Jipe Safari:

3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.

2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.

1. Benagil Cave
The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

☑️ Book a guided kayaking tour:

Albufeira is a beautiful coastal city located in the southern region of Portugal. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, attracting millions of visitors each year. Albufeira is a vibrant and lively city with plenty of things to see and do, making it a must-visit destination for anyone travelling to Portugal.

The history of Albufeira dates back to the Roman times, when it was a fishing village known as Baltum. The name Albufeira comes from the Arabic word al-buhera, which means the lagoon. This is because the city is situated on a beautiful bay with stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. Albufeira remained a small fishing village for many centuries until the 1960s, when it started to develop as a tourist destination.

Today, Albufeira is a bustling city with a population of around 40,000 people. The city is divided into two main areas: the old town and the new town. The old town is situated on a hill overlooking the bay and is home to the city's historic centre, with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and traditional Portuguese restaurants. The new town, on the other hand, is located on the flat land near the beach and is the commercial and tourist centre of the city.

One of the main attractions of Albufeira is its stunning beaches. The city has over 20 beautiful beaches, each with its own unique character and charm. Some of the most popular beaches include Praia do Peneco, Praia do Inatel, Praia dos Pescadores, and Praia da Oura. These beaches are known for their golden sands, clear waters, and beautiful cliffs. They are perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and jet skiing.

In addition to its beaches, Albufeira has plenty of other attractions to offer visitors. The city is home to several museums, including the Albufeira Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the region. The city also has several beautiful churches, including the Igreja Matriz de Albufeira, which dates back to the 16th century.

For those who love nature, Albufeira has plenty of beautiful parks and gardens to explore. The Parque Municipal da Albufeira is a large park with beautiful gardens, a lake, and several walking trails. The park is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

For those who love shopping and nightlife, Albufeira has plenty of options. The new town is home to several large shopping centres, including the Algarve Shopping Centre, which has over 100 shops, restaurants, and a cinema. The city also has a lively nightlife scene, with plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants to choose from.

One of the most popular activities in Albufeira is boat tours. The city's beautiful coastline is best seen from the water, and there are several boat tour operators offering a range of tours, including dolphin watching, cave tours, and sunset cruises.

Another popular activity in Albufeira is golf. The city has several beautiful golf courses, including the Pine Cliffs Golf Course, which is located on a cliff top overlooking the sea. The courses are known for their stunning scenery and challenging holes.

Albufeira is also a great destination for foodies. The city is known for its delicious seafood, which is caught fresh each day from the nearby waters. There are plenty of restaurants in the city serving traditional Portuguese dishes, as well as international cuisine.

If you’re thinking of visiting Portugal, look no further than Albufeira, situated in the Algarve.

A popular tourist spot is the old town. Here you can take to the shops and markets, wine and dine in its many bars and restaurants. In the evening, watch the old town come to life as street performers entertain the crowds.
If you come at the right time you’ll probably catch a local event or two such as the Fisherman’s Festival, where you can enjoy local food and entertainment.
Or, if you’re looking for a more lively night out there’s the New Town, otherwise known as the strip. Situated a short distance away, the strip has a wide range of bars and clubs and is a great destination for partygoers.
There are tonnes of activities you can do in Albufeira. Thanks to its location on the Algarve coast there are numerous beaches where you can relax, and even have a barbeque on!
If relaxing isn’t your thing then you can take part in many water activities, such as parasailing, jet skiing and many more.

Or, how about taking a boat trip amongst the beautiful coast to view the spectacular caves and rock formations on offer. Did you know that this is where the Beatles got their inspiration for their ‘Yellow Submarine?’
You can even take a jeep tour and explore the non-touristic areas of the Algarve, taking in its beautiful surroundings and finding out more about the area.
You can learn about its famous cork trees and discover smaller traditional towns that you probably wouldn’t know you could visit.
For an unforgettable holiday, visit Albufeira, the gateway to the Algarve.
