10 Best place to visit in Alblasserdam Netherlands

Holland - Best Places to visit - Amsterdam, Gouda, Leiden, Maastricht, Giethoorn, Hoorn & Oirschot.

Holland - Best Places To Visit.

In this video we would like to tell you a little about the best places to visit in Holland as well as provide some tips on languages, currency, driving, parking, camping and shopping.

Holland is a really interesting country to visit.

Some of the best places to visit in Holland include Amsterdam, Gouda, Leiden, Maastricht, Groningen, Giethoorn, Katwoude, Hoorn, Alblasserdam and Oirschot.

Holland has a population of around 17 million people but has only a small land mass of 41,526 sq. km a large percentage of which is very flat and below sea level.

The official language is Dutch, however most people speak very good English as it is taught from an early age at school.

The currency is the Euro.

Wild camping is forbidden, however, several motorhome friendly municipalities have regulated facilities where overnight parking is allowed.

Ready-made joints, cannabis related products, rolling papers, pipes and bongs can be ordered legally in coffee shops, however we decided to stay on our natural high of just being with each other.

Bicycles can be seen in their millions and the Netherlands has more than 32,000 km of dedicated bicycle paths.

The Dutch are the most prolific travellers of any country we have encountered whilst travelling – whether it be NordKap in the far north of Norway, Sounion on the southern tip of Greece or anywhere in between we always saw the yellow number plates with NL and knew we would be able to speak to them in English and get a smile and help in return.

There are still at least 30 different languages in the EU and Dutch Frisian and English are the main languages spoken.

Most younger people in larger towns and cities across Europe speak English as their second language, however in the rural areas sometimes not a lot of English is spoken, particularly by older people.

There are around 13 different currencies in the EU however the Euro is the main Dutch currency.

Vignettes are not required for driving on the Holland road networks and there are no toll roads except for a couple of tunnels.

The road systems in Holland are good the only problem being that Holland is a very small country with way too many people and way too many cars so the road networks are always crammed with traffic.

Credit cards are accepted widely in Holland, however, some vendors only accept Visa but not Mastercard, or vice versa.

There are different rules regarding “parking” and “camping” – many countries allow “overnight parking” as long as you don't camp there – the definition of “camping” is if you set up anything outside of your vehicle eg tables and chairs, and or BBQ, and or put up your sun awning and or position your vehicle on levelling ramps etc – then that is classified as camping.

Aussie European Tour – Australians Rob and Krys Henshaw tour 28 European countries, travelling around 60,000 km in their LHD Hymer 544 during 2017 and 2018.

To access the blog notes including tips on language, currencies, driving, parking, camping and shopping with videos and photos for every overnight stop on the entire tour through 28 European countries covering in excess of 60,000 km please log on to the website at

Overnight stops included Wild Camping, Aires and Stellplatz and occasionally in camp grounds.

The Dark Side of Living in The Netherlands

What are the downsides of living in the Netherlands? There is a wide variety of advantages that come along with relocating to the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a country that has a lot to offer everybody, whether they are searching for a higher standard of life, more work prospects, or a location to live that is cheaper. Let's not sugarcoat things and have an honest conversation about some of the challenges you could face if you decide to relocate to the Netherlands.
1. It’s an expensive country
The Netherlands is well-known for having some of the highest tax rates in the world, and almost everything is subject to taxation. The income tax is particularly high in contrast to those of other countries in Europe. You could also discover that the prices of electronic goods are higher in the Netherlands (here's a pro tip: shop on the German Amazon), and that the prices of some foods are also a little bit more. On the other hand, it is possible to acquire some excellent prices if you have learned how to shop and where to shop. The relationship between supply and demand is to blame for the typically high cost of rent throughout the whole of the United States. Jobs, in general, pay very well here; yet, in the end, it all comes down to how you look at it.
2. You have to learn a new language
Even though most Dutch people are aware of this fact, conversational English is not sufficient. You are going to need to educate yourself in Dutch since the majority of the labels, notices, goods, and parcels are all in Dutch. You are going to have to utilize Google Translate whenever you go to public locations like the grocery or railway stations until you master the local language.
It is well known that the service sector in the Netherlands is notorious for being less helpful and more difficult to navigate than in other nations. Even if someone has been downright impolite to us extremely seldom, the Dutch aren't exactly famed for their ability to provide good customer service.
You are either going to have to wait an eternity to speak to the manager, you are going to be in a line of 25 people on the phone, or you are going to have to wait weeks for a response to an email. Not to mention the level of frustration that a good number of individuals experience whenever they are confronted with tasks such as receiving mail or shipments.
3. Accommodation
Insane housing shortages are plaguing the Netherlands at the moment. As a result, it is essential to do apartment hunting in advance of relocating to this location for permanent residence. There are both furnished and unfurnished apartments available to choose. The furnished homes come with very huge rent prices. When you rent a property that isn't equipped, you may think you're getting a good deal, but in reality, you have to buy everything, even rugs and appliances that are necessary. In addition, property owners are reaping the benefits of the housing shortage by charging their renters unreasonable prices.
Due to the unfortunate state of affairs in the housing market in the Netherlands, it is essential that you begin your search for a new place to call home at the earliest possible date. Bear in mind that there are no assurances that you will locate a location right away; yet, you should not give up hope!
If you want to live in Amsterdam or one of the other cities in the Randstad, you need be extremely patient in your hunt for a new house, and you should prepare for a little bit of more wiggle space in your budget.

4K City Walk: NETHERLANDS | Gorinchem (part 1/2) | City Walls | Windmills | Locks | Dikes

It is assumed that Gorinchem [ˈɣɔrkʏm] was founded circa 1000 CE by fishermen and farmers on the raised land near the mouth of the river Linge at the Merwede. Goriks Heem (Home of Gorik) is first mentioned in a document from 1224 in which Floris IV granted people from Gorinchem exemption of toll payments throughout Holland.

Somewhere between 1247 and 1267, Gorinchem became property of the Lords of Arkel. At the end of the 13th century earthen mounts reinforced with palisades were built around the settlement to protect it from domination by the neighboring counties of Holland and Gelre. Half a century later real city walls were built complete with 7 gates and 23 watchtowers. Otto van Arkel granted it city rights on 11 November 1322.

The Kinderdijk windmills are a significant tourist attraction in the Netherlands, and for a good reason – they're stunning. Here are some of the top attractions at Kinderdijk:

The 19 windmills that make up the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The informative visitor center offers exhibits about windmills and their history. The beautiful canals and waterways that run through the area. The cycling and walking trails run through the park. The chance to see traditional Dutch windmill technology in action.

If you're visiting Kinderdijk, there are a few things you shouldn't miss. The first is a tour of the windmills themselves. There are several different tour operators, so you can choose the one that best fits your schedule and interests. Tours typically last around an hour and include a visit to the inside of at least one of the mills.

Another must-see attraction in Kinderdijk is the De Molenschepen Museum. This museum is home to a collection of historic boats transporting goods between the mills. It's a great place to learn more about the history of Kinderdijk and the role the windmills played in it.

Finally, don't forget to take some time to explore the village itself. There are some beautiful old houses and churches to see, and it's a great place to wander around and take photos.

The Kinderdijk windmills are a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. The windmills were built in the 18th century to help pump water out of the surrounding area, which was prone to flooding. Today, the windmills remain a popular tourist attraction, with over a million visitors each year.

We had an amazing day at the Kinderdijk.

FYI, Kinderdijk is situated in the Alblasserwaard polder at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997.
