Our last stop on the road trip around Saudi Arabia is the souq at Al Ahsa. This was a lovely stop on the road back to Riyadh. Just nice to check out the local wares and food.
This town seemed lovely, albeit we drove through and only stopped here. I hope to have longer next time.

A visit to a desert town in Saudi Arabia, on an extremely hot day, this was our feast that I enjoyed with three Saudi men in Al Mubarraz, Saudi Arabia. We had fried fish, grilled lamb and beef, hummus, salads and watermelon for dessert.

Jawatha Park is located about 12 km northwest of Hofuf, in the village of Al-Kilabiyah, Saudi Arabia, and is one of the most interesting places to visit in Al Hofuf. In the middle of the park is a lake which is surrounded by walkways, palm gardens, green grass, and restaurants. On the right side of the main entrance, visitors will find the historic Jawtha mosque which is one of the oldest mosques in Saudi Arabia and a small museum that showcases the history of the kingdom.
Activities
It is a great amusement park that you can visit with friends and family as it is a child-friendly zone with proper security. You can partake in many fun activities including boat riding and bird watching at the lake. However, the boat ride is very short because the lake itself is not that big. The lake also attracts all kinds of exotic and local birds that make it an ideal place for bird watching and photography. There are also many coffee shops, food stalls, and cafes where you will find everything from light snacks and ice cream to full meals and soft drinks.
Seating arrangements can be found next to the walkways, along with a good toilet facility. Other than that, the park has a flower garden and a small zoo, where you will see different animals including camels and rabbits. On weekends, the park can get quite crowded as families flock towards the park for picnics and playdates for the kids.

Asfar Lake (Yellow Lake) near Al Hasa, Saudi Arabia
Al-Asfar (Yellow) Lake is a shallow wetland area situated 13 kilometres east of Al Hasa, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Al-Hasa is officially the world’s largest oasis, approximately 20,000 hectares in size, as well as being one of the largest and oldest agricultural centres in Saudi Arabia. An irrigation system was built in 1971 delivering millions of cubic metres of spring water to over 22,000 farms. The excess water is collected by a drainage network and discharged into two evaporation lakes which are called Al-Asfar & Al-Uyoun.

Al-Hasa Historical Market, Saudi Arabia
JEDDAH: The Qaisariah souq is one of the most famous historical markets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is located in the Al-Rifaa district in Al-Hofuf city, in Al-Ahsa province, rich in historical sites including palaces, towers, mosques and traditional markets.
According to historians, the market was built in 1822 AD-1238 AH and was later overhauled in 1334 AH during the reign of King Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud (may God have mercy on him).
The Qaisariah souq consists of more than 422 shops and is distinguished by its architectural designs of closed corridors and elevated roofing. This offers the visitors good ventilation and natural light while walking in the market, and enables them to have a better grasp of the ancient heritage of the Eastern Province. The market was built on high ground and its shops have dakas — terraces — to protect it from rain and water in the streets, and to provide the visitors and customers with a place to sit in and take their time to examine the merchandise.
Other features of the Qaisariah Souq are its “kabnaks,” furniture put on the doors of its shops. A kabnak consists of three pieces, two of which are set on the floor for shop owner to sit on and to store rice and coffee in their drawers, while the third piece is fixed on the wall above his head.
This traditional market plays a vital economic role in the economy of Al-Ahsa, which has enjoyed a pivotal position in the Kingdom’s economy since early in its history.
This is reflected in the structure of the Qaisariah Souq with its branches, its traditional industries and its products.
These include copper, leather and footwear industries, in addition to gold, watches, perfumes, textiles, clothing, carpets, accessories, traditional abayas, household furniture, electrical appliances, household utensils, foodstuffs and money exchange shops.
