Tremendous visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza, you won't believe it. Such a shocking place.

#Egypt #Pyramids #Giza #Cairo

In this new episode of Around the World in #Egypt, we leave #Alexandria to return to #Cairo. We will take the opportunity to visit the famous pyramids of Giza and the #Sphinx. Back at the hotel, we will take you on a walk along the #Nile and visit the beautiful #Zamalek district.

0:26 Introduction
0:52 Alexandria train station
1:18 Departure to Cairo
2:16 Arrival in Cairo
3:04 Subway ride to the Pyramids
3:32 Discovery of the pyramids
6:23 Visit of the Sphinx
8:13 Return to the hotel
8:33 Walk along the Nile River
9:25 Visit of the city including the Farouk café
10:26 Conclusion

We start our day with a trip by train from #Alexandria to #Cairo. This is an amazing way to make the distance. As a bonus, you will cross the entire Nile Delta, which has been an area of intensive agriculture for 5,000 years. This is also the area where a large part of the Egyptian papyrus comes from. You will undoubtedly be impressed to see this green Egypt which contrasts with the desert expanses of the south of the country. A little advice: don't hesitate to buy a first class ticket, but do it quickly because the tickets are sold fast.

The Great Pyramids :
There are several ways to visit the pyramids. Most tourists take organized tours or are driven directly to the pyramids. Knowing a little bit about the place, we rather chose to discover the Giza plateau on horseback. The adventure can also be done by camel, but the journey is a little less pleasant.

If we chose specifically this way to visit the pyramids, it is also because it is from there, that we can have the best view on these impressive constructions of the ancient world. Tourists are also much less numerous to try the adventure than by the tarred road of the usual circuit.
Welcome to the Giza Plateau, home to three of the best preserved pyramids. It is believed that about 139 pyramids were built in Egypt.

The smallest of the three, the pyramid of Mycerinus, 63 meters high, is the only one that still has part of its outer covering. The pyramid of his father Khephren is much higher, reaching nearly 144 meters. You can see here what these pyramids looked like in ancient times. The most important pyramid was built by Chepren's father, Cheops. In ancient times, this monument was almost 147 meters high, but today it is only 137 meters high. Its set also preserves three small pyramids of queens and a solar boat was discovered there. Unfortunately we could not film inside all these buildings.

???????? Explore Cairo, capital of Egypt| by One Minute City

Cairo (/ˈkaɪroʊ/ KY-roh; Arabic: القاهرة, romanized: al-Qāhirah, pronounced [ælqɑ(ː)ˈheɾɑ]) is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. The Greater Cairo metropolitan area, with a population of 21.3 million, is the 2nd largest urban agglomeration in Africa, the largest in the Arab world and the Middle East, and the sixth-largest in the world by population. Cairo is associated with ancient Egypt, as the Giza pyramid complex and the ancient cities of Memphis and Heliopolis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, the city first developed as Fustat, a settlement founded after the Muslim conquest of Egypt in 640 next to an existing ancient Roman fortress, Babylon. Under the Fatimid dynasty a new city, al-Qāhirah, was founded nearby in 969. It later superseded Fustat as the main urban centre during the Ayyubid and Mamluk periods (12th–16th centuries). Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled the city of a thousand minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture. Cairo's historic center was awarded World Heritage Site-status in 1979.Cairo is considered a World City with a Beta + classification according to GaWC.

Today, Cairo has the oldest and largest cinema and music industry in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, Al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city; the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence.

AntinoPolis HIDDEN GEM in Central Egypt ????

Discover the story behind this awesome city; i am shocked that so few people know about this and if you like discovers and adventure you can' t miss #Antinopolis , a few miles away from today' s village Sheikh Abada in Egypt.

Antinoöpolis, modern Sheikh ʿIbade, Roman city in ancient Egypt, on the east bank of the Nile, 24 miles (38 km) south of modern al-Minyā in al-Minyā muḥāfaẓah (governorate) and 177 miles (285 km) south of Cairo. The earliest levels excavated date to the New Kingdom (1567–1085 BC). On the site of a Ramesside temple, the Roman emperor Hadrian officially founded the city on October 30, AD 130, naming it after his companion Antinoüs, who had drowned in the Nile near the site earlier that year. The Via Hadriana, which led to the Red Sea, began at Antinoöpolis. Papyri found there have provided information about its constitution, which was based on that of Naukratis. The citizens were considered Greeks, although they could marry Egyptian women. Under Diocletian (AD 286) it became capital of the Thebaid nome. Under Valens (reigned AD 364–378) it became the seat of two bishops, one Orthodox, the other Monophysite. The city survived at least to the 8th century AD. A theatre, many temples, a triumphal arch, a circus, and a hippodrome were still visible in the early 19th century, but there is now little to see.

There also are a number of more modern suburbs including Ma'adi and Heliopolis, while Zamalek is a quiet area on Gezira Island, with upmarket shopping. Cairo is best in the fall or spring, when the weather isn't so hot. A felucca ride on the Nile is a good way to escape from the busy city, as is a visit to Al-Azhar Park.
Since the revolution in 2011 and the ongoing counter-revolution, tourists have fled Cairo to a large extent. This has created an opportunity for unique experiences of Cairo's and Egypt's cultural treasures without the crowds. Finding yourself alone inside a pyramid is now a real possibility. 1 day in a crazy city | Cairo, Egypt

Cairo (ؓلقاهرة al-Qāhirah) is the capital of Egypt and, with a total population in excess of 23 million people, one of the largest cities in both Africa and the Middle East. Friends told us not to visit but despite that we did. After our travel plans had to change we took a day trip from Hurghada. Leaving early morning and returning the same day via the Go Bus. Even though we didn't spend much time in Cairo it was a lot to take in. Cairo is magnificent, infuriating and beautiful. Cairo is chaos.

CAIRO EGYPT | THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA

Cairo, Egypt | The Great Pyramid of Giza
Shot on Apple iPhone 13 in Cinematic Mode

Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital, has stood for more than 1,000 years on the Nile River. At its heart is Tahrir Square and the vast Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities including royal mummies and gilded King Tutankhamun artifacts. Nearby, Giza is the site of the iconic pyramids and Great Sphinx, dating to the 26th century BC. In Gezira Island’s leafy Zamalek district, 187m Cairo Tower affords panoramic city views.

Metropolitan Cairo is made up of the Cairo muḥāfazah (governorate) as well as other districts, some of which belong to neighboring governorates such as Al-Jīzah and Qalūbiyyah.

Cairo (/ˈkaɪroʊ/ KY-roh; Arabic: القاهرة, romanized: al-Qāhirah, pronounced [ælqɑ(ː)ˈheɾɑ]), Arabic Al-Qāhirah (“The Victorious”), city, capital of Egypt, is the largest city in the Arab world. The Greater Cairo metropolitan area, with a population of 21.3 million, is the 2nd largest urban agglomeration in Africa, the largest in the Arab world and the Middle East, and the sixth-largest in the world by population. Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled the city of a thousand minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.

Pharaoh Khufu began the first Giza pyramid project, circa 2550 B.C. His Great Pyramid is the largest in Giza and towers some 481 feet (147 meters) above the plateau. Its estimated 2.3 million stone blocks each weigh an average of 2.5 to 15 tons.

PYRAMIDS OF GIZA (source Wikipedia):

The Giza pyramid complex is an archaeological site on the Giza Plateau, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt.

This complex of ancient monuments includes the three pyramid complexes known as the Great Pyramids, the massive sculpture known as the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers' village and an industrial complex. It is located in the Western Desert, approximately 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile river at the old town of Giza, and about 13 km (8 mi) southwest of Cairo city centre.

The pyramids, which have historically been common as emblems of ancient Egypt in the Western imagination, were popularised in Hellenistic times, when the Great Pyramid was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is by far the oldest of the ancient Wonders and the only one still in existence.

Exploring Cairo: St. George Church, Chaplet of St. George & Coptic Cairo (2000)

Cairo, known as Al-Qāhirah in Arabic, is the capital of Egypt and one of Africa's largest cities. It has stood for over 1,000 years on the banks of the Nile, serving as the gateway to the Nile delta. Cairo exhibits a stark contrast between well-irrigated shorelines with lush vegetation and towering skyscrapers, and older inland quarters characterized by browns and ochres against the backdrop of desert foothills and rocky hills.

The city combines elements of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western influences. The iconic Pyramids of Giza and Heliopolis, where Plato studied, represent the ancient heritage, while Western-style high-rise buildings dot the skyline along the Nile. Cairo is adorned with architectural marvels from Roman, Arab, and Ottoman eras, alongside bustling markets and a medieval city with over 400 registered historic monuments, including mosques, mausoleums, and grand stone gates dating back to 130 CE.

Within the Babylon Fortress in Coptic Cairo, you'll discover the Church of St. George. This significant Greek Orthodox church dates back to the 10th century and underwent reconstruction following a fire in 1904. Standing on the fortress's northern tower, it boasts a unique round shape and an impressive dome. According to tradition, St. George, the revered saint, was imprisoned nearby and met martyrdom in this very area. Today, the church serves as an integral part of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. George, affiliated with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria.

Cairo's historic center was awarded World Heritage Site status in 1979.

Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt. The city's metropolitan area is the largest in the Middle East and the Arab world, and 15th-largest in the world, and is associated with Ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, modern Cairo was founded in 969 CE by Jawhar al-Siqilli (the Sicilian) of the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life, and is nicknamed the city of a thousand minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.
Egyptians often refer to Cairo as Maṣr, the Egyptian Arabic name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's importance for the country. Its official name al-Qāhirah  (Arabic: القاهرة‎‎) means the Vanquisher or the Conqueror, supposedly due to the fact that the planet Mars, al-Najm al-Qahir (Arabic: النجم القاهر‎‎, literally the Counquering Star), was rising at the time when the city was founded, possibly also in reference to the much awaited arrival of Caliph al-Mu'izz li Din Allah who reached Cairo in 973 from Mahdia, the old Fatimid capital. In Coptic the city is known as Kahire, meaning Place of the Sun, possibly referring to the ancient city of Heliopolis, the main seat of worship of the solar deity Ra—(or Re). The location of the ancient city is the suburb of Ain Shams (Arabic: عين شمس‎‎, literally Sun-Eye or Eye of the Sun). The ancient Egyptian name for the area is thought to be Khere-Ohe, The Place of Combat, supposedly in reference to a mythical battle that took place between Seth and Horus. Sometimes the city is informally referred to as Kayro (IPA: [kæjɾo]; Egyptian Arabic: كايرو‎‎).
Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab world, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city; the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence.
With a population of 6.76 million spread over 453 square kilometers (175 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 10 million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city. Cairo, like many other mega-cities, suffers from high levels of pollution and traffic. Cairo's metro, one of only two metros on the African continent (the other is in Algiers), ranks among the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally by Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index. (WIKIPEDIA)
