Today's drive departs in the ski resort Villars-sur-Ollon and descends to Aigle. Even though it snowed recently we are heading in to spring and the seasonal change can be seen along this descent. Views of the snowy Alps continue to be an admired view along the way.
Set your quality to 4K, mute the sound if you wish or enjoy the sound of the road heading down the mountain. Add a relaxing music but sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
Villars-sur-Ollon:
Most people visit Villars for skiing during the winter months. The largest ski school is the Ecole Suisse de Ski et Snowboard (ESS Villars) with over 250 instructors dressed in red. The office is in the centre of town next to the Tourist Information Office. The Villars Ski School is another well recognized school where instructors are dressed in yellow and blue. New Generation is a new ski school in Villars and Association Handiconcept is a not-for-profit association offering skiing and other activities for the disabled.

The municipality was settled very early. Burials and ceramics from the Bronze Age have been discovered. During Roman times, Aigle lay on the road from the Great Saint Bernard pass via Viviscus (Vevey) to Aventicum (Avenches), the Roman capital. The Romans had a number of names for Aigle: Ala (Wing), Alena (Little Wing), Aquilegia and Aquilas (Eagles).

However, this place is not just for wine-lovers. It also has several parks, including a rope park (Parc Aventure) and a car museum with several rare vintage vehicles.This quaint Swiss town also houses the World Cycling Centre - a velodrome with a 200 metre track, making it a fantastic place for a cycling holiday!

Aigle est une petite ville de plus de 10 000 habitants.
Grâce à la valeur de son patrimoine et de son vignoble, Aigle se profile aussi comme un écrin touristique d’intérêt. Son Château – dont les origines remontent au début du 13e siècle- abrite le Musée de la vigne et du vin. Terroir d'exception, le vignoble aiglon bénéficie d'une belle réputation: depuis 2012, la ville accueille le Mondial du Chasselas, concours international qui désigne les meilleurs crus issus de ce cépage.
Parcourir les rues du vieux bourg offre un certain intérêt au niveau architectural, de même que l'Eglise St Jacques, où le théologien Guillaume Farel célébra pour la première fois le culte réformé en 1526 .
Aigle se présente aussi volontiers comme la capitale du cyclisme, de par la présence du Centre Mondial du Cyclisme - siège de l'UCI- et des nombreuses compétitions qui s’y déroulent.

In these two days off, in the swiss summer, we have run across the Via Francigena on foot, in its swiss section (the route 70) between Aigle and Montreux, exploring its tourist attractions through slow tourism, in order to celebrate Chiara's birthday, getting to know also some wines of the Chablais AOC region.

The Wine Museum as well as the Museum of Wine Labels have the perfect location for exhibiting the age old tradition of wine-making.
In the 17 rooms of the Wine and Wine-Making Museum, there are more than 1000 exhibit pieces about wine, vineyards and wine-making in the Canton of Vaud. The Museum of Wine Labels tells the 200-year history of wine labels and the iconographic variety from around the world. There are more than 800 labels from 52 countries presented for viewing.

Chateau d'Aigle / Aigle Castle, Switzerland - Drone Video
Aigle Castle is a castle in the municipality of Aigle of the Canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
The Barons of Aigle were first mentioned in 1179. At that time they had a small fortification, that became the center of the modern castle, along the road over the Col du Pillon and Col des Mosses passes of the Rhone. However, only traces of this first castle have been archaeologically discovered.
Some time before 1200, the Barons of Aigle ended up as vassals of the powerful Counts of Savoy. In 1232, Count Thomas of Savoy granted Aigle as a fief to the brothers Jacob and Peter of Saillon in exchange for their ancestral castle in Valais. The Saillon family seems to have been closely related with the barons of Aigle.
In the second half of the 13th Century, Aigle expanded and received a city charter. The castle was rebuilt, with a fortified donjon and a curtain wall.
In the 14th Century, the Lords of Compey inherited the rights of the Saillon family. They were also vassals of the Counts of Savoy and made Aigle into their headquarters. They added turrets and in 1450 built a massive tower in the south corner. This tower was an example of late French Donjon architecture.
Starting in the mid-15th Century, Bern tried to control the city, to gain control of the important mountain passes into the Rhone Valley. Their first unsuccessful attempt was in 1464. The Burgundian Wars (1474–1477), which brought the Swiss Confederation into conflict with Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy, brought another opportunity. Because Savoy had joined the Burgundian side, Swiss forces attacked the Savoy town of Aigle and devastated the castle.[3] Jean de Compey had to flee and was killed soon afterward in Vevey. His son died fighting for Charles the Bold.
After the war, the Compey family were unable to recover their title to the town or castle. Bern had the castle rebuilt again in 1488 and made it the seat of a provincial governor. Aigle became one of the first French speaking districts in Bern. The representatives of Bern resided here until the French invasion and creation of the Helvetic Republic in 1798.
In 1804, the castle was acquired by the community of Aigle and until 1976 it was used as a cantonal jail. Since then, it has been a museum open to the public.

Montreux - Switzerland Most Charming Place
Montreux is a municipality and a Swiss town on the shoreline of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. It belongs to the district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.
After Geneva, we head towards Montreux and on the way found a world II sports car which is very interesting to see in the modern day. Then we went to Monterux lakeside, The walkway is a promenade - wide, tree-covered, many miles long! People do 'stay to the right! Just be aware of bicycles & motorized wheelchairs, as strollers/walkers can be slow with all the beauty around, the b&mw can be in your lane as they try to pass. There may be other walks you like but here the 'ever-present' Lake Geneva is there to quiet the soul. Hazy in the morning; watch the sun angle if you taking photos. Maybe you have an SLR with a polarizing filter.

Leysin, located on a terrace at an altitude of 1200 metres above sea level above Aigle in the lower Rhone Valley, in addition to affording fantastic views of the Rhone Plain, Mont Blanc, Dents du Midi and Diablerets is an attractive family holiday world.
Leysin at the foot of the Tour d'Aï which used because of its sun-rich and mild climate to be famous as a health resort for people with lung diseases since the fifties - Club Med opened a holiday club here in 1950 - has developed into an all-year holidary resort. The summer children's activity programme offers treasure hunts, visits to a farm or cheese dairy. And the child-friendliness of the mountain transport facilities finds expression in their price structures.
Leysin in Winter
The beautiful ski region with 17 lifts and a snowpark with a halfpipe, and ski tours and snow-shoe treks offer skiers and snowboarders ideal opportunities for enjoyment. And there is also a snow sport school, a lit cross-country skiing trail and toboggan run. Additional challenges for skiers and snowboarders are available in the «Glacier 3000» ski area at the Col du Pillon and Les Diablerets. In the small holiday resort of Les Mosses/La Lécherette a family-friendly ski region and lots of space for cross-country skiers awaits. After racing down the icy slopes of the toboggan park in Leysin, you arrive in the Snow Village to warm up and to restore your strength.
