Known as the surfing capital of the North, Elyu has become more popular among tourists in Luzon as you only need a car or bus ride to get here. La Union is one of my favorite places in the Philippines and in fact, the last one I visited, a day before lockdown.
How To Get Here? DIY:
1. Go to Partas Terminal in Aurora, Cubao
2. Get a queueing number, once called, it's the only time you can purchase a ticket - we went here at 12 AM and booked a bus at 2AM (Friday)
3. San Juan is La Union's main tourist area, Partas buses directly goes to Urbiztondo (7-Eleven) which is centerpoint of the area.

ECO-PARK NA DATING DAGAT? | AGOO ECO-PARK IN AGOO, LA UNION
Maniniwala ka ba kung sasabihin kong ang napakagandang lugar na ito ay dating bahagi ng dagat? Halika at sama-sama nating alamin ang kwento at kasaysayan ng lugar na ito.
Sa mga kagaya ko na mahilig sa mga tahimik at preskong lugar, dayo na sa ipinagmamalaking pasyalan ng Agoo, La Union….. ang AGOO ECO-PARK.
Bago makapasok dito, kailangan munang dumaan sa entrance gate at magbabayad ng environmental fee o parking fee na P20.00. Kung ikaw naman ay taga-Agoo, libre ang pagpasok dito.
Ang Agoo Ecopark ay matatagpuan sa barangay Sta. Rita, sa bayan ng Agoo, La Union. Isa itong man-made forest na nakapaloob ito sa mahigit sampung libong ektaryang Agoo–Damortis Protected Landscape and Seascape. Ang Agoo-Damortis Protected Landscape and Seascape ay unang itinatag bilang isang pambansang parke noong 1965. Sinasaklaw nito ang 30 kilometro ng mga bakawan, seagrass bed, at pinong itim na buhangin sa mga dalampasigan.
Malapit sa baybaying-dagat o sa hilagang bahagi ay makikita naman ang mga bakawan o mangrooves, kung saan ang mga migratory bird ay dumadapo kapag ang araw ay lumulubog na. Sa katunayan ay ginawa itong Eco-Fun Park na binuksan sa publiko noong 2014. Mabilis itong naging hotspot para sa mga turista at lokal na naghahanap ng kaunting tambayan sa kalikasan. Pero sa kasalukuyan, wala na ang mga mangroove sanctuary activities na dinarayo dati dito.
Sa pagpunta sa Agoo Eco-Park, makikita rito ang mga nagtataasang agoho trees na karaniwang pinagkakamalang pine trees ng ilang mga turistang bumibisita rito. Ang mga agoho tree na ito ay itinanim mahigit-kumulang 20 years ago at patuloy pa ring dini-develop o pinagaganda ng mga taong in-charge sa maintenance ng lugar na ito. Ang mga punong ito ay tuwid na nakatayo at nakahilera sa parke sa kahabaan ng coastal village ng barangay Sta. Rita na nakaharap sa Lingayen Gulf.
Siguro magdadalawang-isip ka kung sasabihin nating ang eco-park na ito ay dating bahagi ng dagat. Ilang taon na rin ang nakalilipas nang umatras ng halos isang kilometro ang tubig ng dagat, at bilang ebidensya nito ay ang seawall malapit sa gate nito na katabi ng simbahan. Kaya noong 2011, sinimulan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources o (DENR) na tamnan ang lugar sa ilalim ng National Greening Program (NGP) ng mga iba’t ibang uri ng kahoy habilang na ng Agoho Tree.
Ang Agoho, na tinatawag ring Aguho, Aroo o Agoo na may scientific name na Casuarina equisetifolia o sa English ay whistling pine, ay isang puno sa variety ng Casuarina, at isa sa mga punong likas na natatagpuan sa Pilipinas. Kahawig ito ng punong karaniwang makikita sa Baguio City na pine trees. Ang mga puno ng agoho na itinanim dito ay iyong mga nabubuhay sa mainit na panahon at mabuhangin na lugar, at iba sa mga pine trees na makikita sa Baguio City. Gayunpaman, kailangan pa ring maglagay ng garden soil sa paligid ng mga punla upang hindi ito maalog.
At alam niyo ba na sa punong ito hinalaw ang pangalan ng Bayan ng Agoo, La Union dahil sa dami ng mga puno noon na itinanim o tumubo sa bayang ito.
Sa baybaying bahagi nito ay may bagong ginagawang daan. Ito ang mega dike and coastal road project ng DPWH o ang Shore Protection Project. Sa aking pagbabasa ng mga artikulo sa internet ay may haba pala itong mahigit 20 kilometers kung natapos. Ang proyektong ito ang magsisilbing panangga sa storm surge tuwing may bagyo o tag-ulan na pakikinabangan ng coastal barangays na nasasakupan nito.
Napakaganda ng pagkakagawa dito dahil sa gitna o center isle nito ay may mga nakainstall na solar street lights na tiyak na magbibigay liwanag sa madilim na paglalabay ng mga motorista o turista tuwing gabi. Ang dagat ay malinaw, katamtaman ang mga alaon pero kapansin pansin na may mga karatulang nakalagay na “Mag-ingat sa mga dikya”. Ito ay dahil sa ilang insedente ng pag-atake ng mga dikya sa mga nkalipas na taon o buwan.
Unti-unti na ring dumarami ang mga tindahan o bilihan dito na nakahilera sa gilid ng ginagawang kalsada. May mga kubo na rin na maaaring rentahan sa abot-kayang halaga.
Ang Agoo Eco-Park ay perpektong lugar para sa anumang uri ng picture-taking activity maging ito man ay isang prenuptial shoot, isang birthday shoot, o isang simpleng larawan upang ipakita sa Facebook o Instagram. Mayroon ding campsite kung saan maaari mong dalhin ang iyong mga kaibigan o pamilya na may dalang masarap na pagkain para sa isang simpleng picnic o sleepover sa labas. Maaari kang magdala ng anumang makakain at maiinom basta huwag kalilimutang dalhin ang basura kapag aalis na para mapanatili ang kalinisan ng lugar. Isa rin itong nakakapagpasiglang lugar na magandang puntahan para sa mga fitness activity tulad ng jogging o pagbibisikleta.

Agoo, officially the Municipality of Agoo (Ilocano: Ili ti Agoo; Pangasinan: Baley na Agoo; Filipino: Bayan ng Agoo), is a 1st class municipality in the province of La Union, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 66,028 people.
Agoo is 235 kilometres (146 mi) from Metro Manila, 34 kilometres (21 mi) from San Fernando, the provincial capital and 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Dagupan City in neighboring Pangasinan.
The name agoo is usually attributed to aroo or agoho, a pine-like evergreen tree (Casuarina equisetifolia or Whistling Pine) that thrived in the western coast during the pre-Spanish Period.
Agoo's administrative dates back further than most Philippine municipalities, with the town being established within the same decade that the Spanish colonizers arrived on the Island of Luzon. The history of the settlement now known as Agoo dates back even further, with both documentary and artifactual evidence supporting the assertion that it was a major port of call for foreign traders before it was formally established by the Spaniards
