The Athens Metropolitan Area consists of 58 densely populated municipalities, sprawling around the Municipality of Athens (the City Centre) in virtually all directions. For the Athenians, all the urban municipalities surrounding the City Centre are called suburbs. The Athens city coastline, extending from the major commercial port of Piraeus to the southernmost suburb of Varkiza for some 25 km (20 mi), is also connected to the City Centre by tram.
Many of the southern suburbs (such as Alimos, Palaio Faliro, Elliniko, Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza) known as the Athens Riviera, host a number of sandy beaches, most of which are operated by the Greek National Tourism Organisation and require an entrance fee. Casinos operate on both Mount Parnitha, some 25 km (16 mi) from downtown Athens (accessible by car or cable car), and the nearby town of Loutraki (accessible by car via the Athens – Corinth National Highway, or the suburban rail service Proastiakos)

Siemens Desiro class 460 EMU in Piraeus [4K 60FPS]
Just like a very hot summer day, with the hot sun above us, I decided to head to Piraeus and capture the beloved Siemens Desiro class 460 EMU that operates in all of Athens' suburban in regional lines! Piraeus station is one end of the network and a terminal station where the trains begin their journey for the Athens' airport or the Peloponnese prefecture. From the terminal station I also headed to the next station, Lefka, for a few more shots. Next to the Lefka station is located the railway museum and the main rail workshop for the refurbishment of the trains in Athens.

Athens has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate
. The dominant feature of Athens' climate is alternation between prolonged hot and dry summers because of the dry and hot winds blowing from the Sahara, and mild, wetter winters with moderate rainfall, due to the westerly winds. With an average of 433 millimetres of yearly precipitation, rainfall occurs largely between the months of October and April. July and August are the driest months when thunderstorms occur sparsely. Furthermore, some coastal areas of Athens, known as the Athens Riviera have a hot semi-arid climate according to the climate atlas published by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service. However, places like Elliniko, which are classified as hot semi-arid because of the low annual rainfall, have not recorded temperatures as high as other places in the city. This happens because of the moderating sea and the fact that there is not as much industrialization as in other regions of the city
Athens holds the World Meteorological Organization record for the highest temperature ever recorded in Europe, at 48 °C (118.4 °F), which was recorded in the Elefsina and Tatoi suburbs of Athens on 10 July 1977.

Είναι σε όλους μας γνωστή η Λαχαναγορά της περιοχής εκεί όπου οι καταναλωτές προμηθεύονται τα προιόντα τους.
Η Λαχαναγορά Ρέντη ή Κεντρική Αγορά βρίσκεται σε έκταση 60 περίπου στρεμμάτων σε έναν τετράγωνο περιφραγμένο χώρο με πλευρές 300 μέτρα περίπου. Η ανάγκη μιας μεγάλης αγοράς που θα εξυπηρετεί ολόκληρη την Αττική δημιουργήθηκε από το 1950 επειδή οι δυο παλιότερες λαχαναγορές δεν μπορούσαν να εξυπηρετήσουν τις ανάγκες των εμπόρων. Η περιοχή του Ρέντη επελέγη βασικά λόγω της θέσης της, βρισκόταν πολύ κοντά στην διασταύρωση των δυο εθνικών δρόμων κάτι που συνέφερε το ίδιο τους εμπόρους της Πελοποννήσου και της βόρειας Ελλάδας και λόγω της μορφολογίας της περιοχής που είχε πολλές καλλιεργήσιμες εκτάσεις. Στον χώρο κατασκευάστηκαν 800 μαγαζιά και τα εγκαίνια έγιναν τον Οκτώβριο του 1959.

AEG DE IC-2000N (1989) Riding a Legend... Thessaloniki - Serres 162 km [Part 1]
OSE class 520, also known as the AEG DE IC-2000N, is the oldest class of trainsets operated by TRAINOSE . They are diesel-powered, they can be EMU-5 or EMU-4 and were built in 1989 and 1995 as class 601 and 651, respectively, from the cooperation of West Germany's AEG and East Germany's LEW, and for about two decades they were the spearhead of the fast- interurban quality trains (InterCity). In 1986, OSE, in the context of upgrading the fleet, proceeded to order new high quality and specification trainsets. Under contract 5701/1986, 12 AEG / LEW trainsets were ordered. The trainsets consist of 4 coaches. Intermediate vehicles were manufactured by East German Bautzen.
The interior of the trains for their time was the most luxurious of the Greek railways while serving at the seats was done as it was on airplanes.
In July the 14th of 2017, the trainsets carried out the last high-speed route on the Athens - Thessaloniki axis and permanently abandoned their 28-year seat, the Agios Ioannis Rentis Depot, and transported to the Thessaloniki Depot where they continue to serve in Northern Greece.

Epiphany Ceremony in Pireaus port of Athens
Epiphany or Theofania as it is in Greek it is an important religious day that always falls on the 6th of January. That day, there is a chant, white pigeons that represent the Holy Spirit are released in the air and young men dive into the sea to retrieve the cross that the clergy has dropped. The one who will retrieve it will be blessed for the whole year.

More about PireasPiraeus : #PIRAEUS #PIRAEUSPORT Palaia Kokkinia is a refugee Piraeus area, bordered by the district Kaminia, west and north with Nikaia and east to Agios Ioannis Rentis. The district is identified with the lives of sailors and working-class families of various professions. It houses the former camps Sakelliona 31 acres Papadogeorgou '12 acres on which to create future green spaces and sports facilities.
The red was originally called Kokkinada as stated in the relevant topographic map of the late 19th century. As regards the origin of the name Kokkinada there are those who argue that due to the characteristic red color of the soil of the area and there is also the view that the term Kokkinada came about because of overgrown fields with poppies in the region.
One of the most striking points of the Palaia Kokkinia is the small orthodox byzantine church of Metamorfossi tou Sotiros(the Transfiguration of the Savior ), which was constructed between 1867-1869, under Mayor Demetrios Moutzopoulos. Today this small chapel in the middle of the square formed on the streets of Thebes, Agion Anargiron and Agrinio while on the same square is built the new Church of the Transfiguration. Hello and welcome to our channel! In this video we drive on Thivon Avenue, one of the most important avenues in Athens, which connects Piraeus with the western and northwestern suburbs. It passes through large municipalities such as Piraeus, the Municipality of Nikaia - Agios Ioannis Rentis, Aegaleo, Peristeri and Ilion. It starts from the district of Lefkas in Piraeus and ends at Phylis Street in Kamatero.

•Ο σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός του Ρέντη λειτουργεί από το 1884 και εξυπηρετούσε την γραμμή των σιδηροδρόμων Πελοποννήσου! Αργότερα, μέσα στην δεκαετία του 1900 εγκαταστάθηκε εκεί η κανονικού εύρους γραμμής Πειραιώς - Συνόρων και το 1930 το μηχανοστάσιο που βρίσκεται μέχρι και σήμερα απέναντι από τον σταθμό. Τον Ιούνιο του 2007, εγκαινιάστηκε ο νέος ανακατασκευασμένος σταθμός του Ρέντη ο οποίος εξυπηρετεί και τον προαστιακό σιδηρόδρομο της Αθήνας με νέα στάση μερικά μέτρα δίπλα από το κτίριο του σταθμού.
•The railway station of Rentis has been operating since 1884 and served the Peloponnese railway line! Later, in the 1900s, the regular line Piraeus-Border was installed there and in 1930 the engine room that is still located opposite the station. In June 2007, the new reconstructed Rentis station was inaugurated, which also serves the Athens suburban railway with a new stop a few meters next to the station building.
