Mogadishu, locally known as Xamar or Hamar, is the capital and most populous city of Somalia. Located in the coastal Banadir region on the Somali Sea, the city has served as an important port for millennia.
Mogadishu is situated on the Somali Sea coast of the Horn of Africa, in the Banaadir administrative region (gobol) in southeastern Somalia. The region itself is coextensive with the city and is much smaller than the historical province of Benadir.

Today is my first day in Mogadishu, Somalia and I’m enjoying the Somali culture. I’m putting together a series of 5-10 videos to show you the REAL Somalia from my eyes, and not some drive-by tinted window footage like I’ve seen on YouTube. My feet are on the ground and I intend to interact with the locals in Mogadishu.
Is it safe for tourist to visit Mogadishu Somalia in 2023? I’m not entirely sure yet, but I can tell you that my first day was smooth and my guide and guards kept me safe.
I didn’t encounter any dangers and only got the middle finger twice. All around it was a great day for adventure travel. Keep in mind, if you are a non-black tourist then you will require official military guard every time you step outside of your hotel.

I visited Darusalam yesterday and was shocked at the amount of expensive homes and beautiful Somalis live in. It's clear that this is where the rich hides in Mogadishu – and it's worth a visit if you come here.
