Exploring Aegina GREECE - Travel Guide 2022
Join us as we explore the Greek island of Aegina, located close to Athens in the Saronic island group. Aegina is a small island, but rich in history, culture and local cuisine and is popular with tourists travelling from the mainland due to its accessibility by ferry - just 40 minutes from Piraeus.
We spent 3 nights on the island, hiring a moped for one day to explore the sights. The food here is excellent and the prices, though higher than on other small islands we've visited, were reasonable. Have you been to Aegina? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Aegina - Greece - TOP 6 FOOD and SIGHTS
Welcome to another video.
In this episode we are going to Aegina, Greece – a beautiful traditional Greek Island, only 40min from Athens. This episode in available in 4K 60fps.
We will start in Aegina Town, which is the main town on the island. We will then visit the Temple of Aphaia, followed by a visit to the beach in Agia Marina. We then travel south to Perdika for a beautiful lunch location. Then we go back to Aegina Town for the sunset, food, drinks and desserts.
The island of Aegina is located about 25km southwest of Athens. You reach it easily with a short ferry-ride from the Pireaus Port in Athens.
We flew into Athens Airport on a sunny September morning. From there you can take the metro all the way to Pireaus Port.
The big ferry to Aegina takes around 1hr 15 min, but there is also a highspeed dolphin ferry that takes around 40min.
When arriving to Aegina, you will be right in town, only steps away from the marina, restaurants and bars.
We rented an apartment in Aegina Town which turned out to be great.
Strolling through the small streets is something really special and there are plenty of small shops to visit. Aegina is famous for Pistachios and you can buy locally grown pistachios in many places.

BEST DAY TRIP FROM ATHENS ???????? | Aegina, Greece
In this video we have travelled to Kyle's favourite country in the world, Greece!! We leave Athens for the day and head to the beautiful island of Aegina. When in Aegina we visit the famous temple of Aphaia before renting bicycles and cycling to a nearby beach. After swimming in October temperature water we head back to the main town of Aegina to visit the Tower of Markellos and taste the delicious pistachio that Aegina is famous for (It is nicknamed Pistachio Island according to locals). We finish the trip with the most incredible sunset with the most delicious Greek seafood!

12 hours on the Stunning Greek Island of Aegina | Greece Travel Vlog 2023
Aegina is a stunning Greek island on the Saronic Gulf and only one hour from the capital city of Greece, Athens. I traveled solo on a weekday at the end of May and spent 12 hours discovering some of the beauties of the island. To my surprise, Aegina, has nothing to envy from other popular islands like Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos and Milos.
Now first things first, how did Aegina got it's name? Well, its name come from a figure in Greek mythology named Aegina. According to ancient Greek legends, Aegina was the daughter of the river god Asopus and the nymph Metope. She was known for her exceptional beauty.
If you're traveling to Aegina (or Aigina) then you must visit The Temple of Aphaia, the Holy Church of Saint Nectarios, the Temple of Apollo, the Tower of Markellos and Moni islet.
In this video we are focusing on the town of Aegina (port and picturesque alleys), The Temple of Aphaia and the Holy Church of Saint Nectarios. After all, 12 hours was not enough to do a full island tour. Don't skip a bit and watch it to the very end for amazing sunset at sea.

The Temple of Aphaia (or Aphaea) is an ancient Greek temple located on the island of Aegina in Greece. It is one of the best-preserved Doric temples from the Classical period and is considered a masterpiece of ancient Greek architecture.
The Temple is dedicated to the goddess Aphaea, who was worshipped on the island. Aphaia is often identified with the goddess Athena, and the temple is sometimes referred to as the Temple of Athena Aphaia. The exact origins and purpose of the temple are not fully known, but it is believed to have been built around 500 BC, during the Archaic period.
The temple is situated on a hill overlooking the Saronic Gulf, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. It is built entirely of local limestone and follows the typical Doric architectural style. The temple measures approximately 31 meters long and 13 meters wide, with six columns on the short sides and twelve on the long sides.
The pediment sculptures are particularly noteworthy and depict mythological scenes. The west pediment depicts the Trojan War, while the east pediment shows the mythical hunt of the Calydonian Boar.
Today, the Temple of Aphaia is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors who are interested in ancient Greek history and architecture.

Saint Nectarios of Aegina, also known as Nektarios the Wonderworker, is a highly revered and popular saint in the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition. He led a life of great piety, asceticism, and devotion to God. He was known for his deep prayer life, humility, and dedication to serving others.
Saint Nectarios is associated with numerous miraculous healings, both during his earthly life and following his death. Many people have reported experiencing healings and receiving answers to their prayers through his intercession.
Saint Nectarios established several charitable institutions, including an orphanage and a school for girls, during his time as a bishop in the Greek city of Pentapolis.
He was a prolific writer, producing theological works that have been widely read and appreciated by Orthodox Christians. His works continue to inspire and educate believers, contributing to his enduring popularity.
After his death in 1920, Saint Nectarios became widely venerated by the faithful. His canonization by the Eastern Orthodox Church in 1961 further solidified his status as a beloved and popular saint. Pilgrims from around the world visit his tomb on the island of Aegina, seeking his intercession and spiritual guidance.

Aegina is also well known for its pistachios. They have a distinct flavor profile that sets them apart from other varieties. They are known for their rich, sweet, and nutty taste, making them highly enjoyable to eat. Aegina pistachios have obtained Geographical Indication (GI) protection, which means that they are recognized and protected as a unique product of the specific region they come from.

Aegina, one of the Saronic Islands in Greece, is located just 17 miles from central Athens. The island is an easy ferry ride from the Port of Piraeus.
The islands earliest history is thought to be the 20th century BC. A famous artifact called the Aegina treasure, now kept in the British Museum, is estimated to date between 1700 and 1500 BC. The Port of Piraeus has served as the port of Attica since ancient times. In 483 BC the mighty Athenian naval fleet left the older harbor of Phaleron and moved to Piraeus.

Wir reisen in die Hauptstadt von Griechenland: Athen. Die weltweit bekannte Sehenswürdigkeit der Stadt ist die Akropolis. Sie ist eine Stadtfestung des antiken Griechenlands und wurde der Stadtgöttin Athene geweiht.
In unserem Video „Athen in 5 Minuten“ führen wir dich zunächst durch die Altstadt, die der bedeutenden Akropolis zu Füßen liegt. Sie besteht aus drei Vierteln: Dem malerischen Pláka (besonders am Abend schön), Psirrí und Monastiráki. Auf dem Markt von Athen essen wir Meze und trinken typischen griechischen Kaffee.
Für die besten Aussichten und Fotomotive wandern wir auf mehrere Hügel in Athen: Der Lykabettus Hügel bietet einen schönen Ausblick. Er liegt in der Mitte Athens. Der Philopapposhügel ist mit 147,4m die höchste Erhebung im südlichen Teil Athens. Und noch Areopag.
Blubbernde Molekulare Cocktails gibt es im Viertel Gazi. Zusammen mit dem Viertel Kerameikos reist man hier gefühlt in die 90er-Jahre Berlin zurück. Überall Künstler und Aktivisten zwischen den heruntergekommenen Hausfassaden. Am Abend gibt’s überall laute Beats. Ein hipper Ort für jeden.
Und für eine Tagestour auf eine der vielen Inseln um Athen herum, empfehlen wir die Insel Ägina. Vom Hafen Piräus kannst du mit dem Boot am Morgen übersetzen. Auf Ägina mietest du dir einen coolen Jeep und entdeckst die Pistazien-Insel bei blauem Himmel und Sonnenschein. Was kann es Schöneres geben? :)
