Catania Fish Market, Aci Castello and Aci Trezza! Catania City Tour Part 2 ????????

The most energetic and vibrant day in the Sicilian city of Catania! In this episode, we dive headfirst into the fish market frenzy of Catania, explore the gorgeous cathedral and venture a little outside the city to visit the majestic lava coastline and the special towns of Aci Castello and Aci Trezza! We eat the famous Catania dish of Pasta alla Norma under the colorful umbrellas and find a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the city and Mount Etna!

Catania is the second-largest Sicilian city after Palermo. It was destroyed to the ground seven times by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes from Mount Etna. The most recent catastrophic events in 1169 and 1693 forced the inhabitants to rebuild the city from scratch. The origin of the city dates back to 730 B.C. during the first arrival of ancient Greeks and this was the beginning of a long series of invasions and conquests.

Aci Castello (Catania) Sicily walking tour in 4k (2022)

Aci Castello near Catania, in Sicily. April 2022 walking tour in 4k. (With Captions)

Hi my friends!!! Welcome to Aci Castello!.

Aci Castello, an ancient fishing village located 15 meters above sea level, just 10 kilometers from Catania.

The name Aci Castello derives from the castle of the same name built in 1076 by the Normans on a nearby lava stone hill.

???? BEST HOTELS WHERE TO STAY IN Aci Castello ????

Historically, a first castle was built in the 7th century AD. by the Byzantines on a pre-existing fortification of the Roman period, perhaps of 38 AD, called Castrum Jacis and aimed at the defense of the population from raids.

In the Middle Ages it was the fulcrum of the development of the surrounding area.

In the Norman period, the first village was founded around the castle. Around 1170 the village was completely destroyed by a terrible earthquake and only in 1530 was it rebuilt and repopulated. Over the years, while maintaining its ancient origins, it has gradually transformed into a prestigious seaside resort, a destination for many tourists.

Cosa vedere a CATANIA in due giorni (+ Aci Castello & Aci Trezza)

Viaggiatori siete pronti a scoprire cosa vedere a Catania in due giorni?

Dove dormire a Catania?
Vi consigliamo caldamente il B&B Oblò, nella zona del porto, davvero un posticino speciale di cui siamo sicuri rimarrete incantati anche voi!
Guardate il link per credere

Dove mangiare a Catania?

Welcome to Catania, one of the oldest and largest cities in Sicily!
Catania sits at the foot of Mount Etna, one of the most dangerous and active European volcanoes that shaped the city to this day. With its unique Baroque architecture, lively streets and a variety of things to offer, Catania is a frequent stop in Mediterranean cruise itineraries with Messina, Taormina and Palermo.

The city of Catania was affected by numerous earthquakes and volcanic eruptions over the centuries, which changed the city’s landscape.
A major eruption took place in 1669 and completely changed the shape of the city. The city was rebuilt with lava brick in the Baroque style which has given a grey look to the city. Due to its unique architecture, Catania’s old town has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Take a walk around Piazza Duomo, the main square dominated by the imposing Duomo di Catania (Catania Cathedral) that houses the tomb of the classic composer Vincenzo Bellini. Explore Castello Ursino, the iconic medieval castle, and go for an ultimate shopping experience in Via Etnea, the main street! Taste the typical dish Pasta alla Norma and indulge in traditional Sicilian cuisine. ????

Aci Castello on the seaside cliff: Ocean, Cactus & Castle | Catania, Sicily

Aci Castello on the seaside cliff. A small gray castle made of earth. Blue seawater and green cactus. The sea breeze is moist and pure, without a salty taste.

The gentle spring sunshine falls on me like warm water flowing over my arms. The wind blows the branches and my sleeves, and I lean on the railing at the top of the castle. At this moment, I’m not thinking about the sea and warm sunshine, spring and poetry. I’m thinking about you who walked towards me with shining eyes through the snowy forest that winter.

Aci Castello..(Catania,Sicily).... Travel vlog part 2... Sumaiya Hosen's Vlog..

The town of Aci Castello developed around the castle, which was built in 1076 by the Normans upon the foundations of a 7th-century Byzantine fortification[3][4]. In 1169, Aci Castello started to expand after an eruption of Mount Etna made the towns in its vicinity uninhabitable. The castle later became the property of the bishops of Catania.

In 1296, Roger of Lauria, admiral of the Aragonese fleet during the War of the Sicilian Vespers, was granted the fief of Aci and its castle as a reward for his faithful service to King Frederick III of Sicily. When relations between the two men soured and di Lauria transferred his loyalties to the Angevins, the castle was besieged and captured by King Frederick and di Lauria stripped of his fiefs. In 1320, the castle and Aci were taken from Roger's descendant, Margaret of Lauria and given to Blasco II de Alagona. Whilst the latter was away defending Palermo from the attacking Angevins,
Bertrando di Balzo sacked Aci in his absence.

Catania CITY TOUR! One of Sicily's Most Confusing Cities? Part 1

In this episode, we get a little lost in Catania as we attempt to tell the difference between universities and monasteries! We find Sicily's largest church, get lost in the hallways of Europes 2nd largest monastery, and tour a 13th-century royal castle in Catania, Italy.
