Prometheus Cave also known as Kumistavi Cave and Tsqaltubo Cave is a karst cave located in Imereti region of Georgia near Kutaisi city.  The total length of the cave is about 11 km, of which 1060 m are open to visitors. The cave has a total of 22 halls, six of which are currently open to tourists.
A pedestrian route was laid in the cave for about 1 kilometer, stairs and paths were built, and a 150-meter tunnel was punched out at the exit and the construction of ground-floor buildings began. The cave was equipped with temporary lighting.
In 1990, due to the collapse of Soviet Union and a lack of funds, the project was closed. For several years a local citizen protected the cave from vandals, as memorialized by a statue of him and his dog at the cave's entrance.

Martvili Canyon also known as Abasha Canyon and Gachedili Canyon is an Abasha river erosion canyon located in Samegrelo region of Western Georgia near Gachedili village. The water in the Abasha river has deep green color in the canyon.

The tour takes visitors through narrow passageways, past towering cliffs, and beneath cascading waterfalls. MARTVILI CANYON

Martvili Canyon (Gachedili Canyon) is one of the most-visited places in Georgia and the most popular day trip from Kutaisi.
Carved out by the Abasha river, the 2.4-kilometre gorge has 50 to 70-metre-high rock walls and several cascading waterfalls. Visitors explore the area via a 700-metre walking trail and on a short 15-minute ride in an inflatable boat.

Martvili Canyon is 280 kilometres or a 4-5 hour drive from Tbilisi. It’s not feasible to visit as a day trip from Tbilisi and I don’t recommend it at all.

BEST TIME TO VISIT MARTVILI CANYON

Martvili Canyon is open year-round. Unlike Okatse Canyon that closes whenever there is heavy rain or snow, Martvili is more likely to stay open during inclement weather and during the winter months.

Most people visit Martvili in the warmer summer months. It’s shady and a few degrees cooler beneath the rock walls, and thus a good place to beat the heat of the city. The downside of course is that it can be very crowded. The area is small and the walking paths are tight, so as soon as it fills up with people, it becomes quite unpleasant.

MARTVILI CANYON TICKET PRICE
Prices for all Protected Areas and national monuments in Georgia have gone up significantly in the past couple of years. When I first visited Martvili, tickets were around 10 GEL. Since then, it’s almost doubled.
Here are the current prices:
Adults: 17.25 GEL
Children (6-18 years): 5.50 GEL
Children under 6 years enter free. Georgian citizens and residents qualify for discounted tickets at 10.35 GEL.
Tickets are purchased at the visitors’ centre with either cash or credit/debit card. There is an option to pre-purchase tickets online through GURU.GE and skip the queue. The only time you’d need to consider pre-purchasing tickets is during the peak summer months.

In this episode our travel specialist Bacho Kartvelishvili takes you to Open Air Museum of Ethnography in Tbilisi, (aka Tbilisi Ethnographic Museum). Visit our website to learn more:

Martvili Monastery

Martvili Monastery Complex - Early medieval Christian church and monastery complex in Martvili, Samegrelo.
The monastery complex is located near the center of the city of Martvili, in a convenient geographical and strategic location on a high hill. The valleys of the river Tskhenistskali and the river Abasha are widely spread at the foot of the mountain. Almost the whole Imereti and Samegrelo can be seen from the monastery. The monastery is enclosed. The main temple is named after the Assumption of the Virgin. And the Megrelian name Chkondidi originated from Didi Chkoni - big oak. In the past, the high hill of Chvenia, on which the monastery stands now, was decorated with millennial trees of Chkoni (oak).
The buildings included in the Martvili monastery complex are a fence, rectangular storeroom, main temple, Chikvanebi church, bell tower, chapel.
In the Middle Ages, Martvili was a large cultural and educational center, where many famous scribes worked and many unique manuscripts were kept. The central temple is cross-domed. The facades of the temple are carved. The figures and plant ornament form a whole picture and depict the scenes from the Old Testament and the Gospels. The paintings of the XIV-XVI and XVII centuries are preserved in the temple. Next to the main temple is a two-story church of the X century.
To the west, near the main temple, stands a high pillar on which is the church-room of the pillarist. The last pillarist monk lived here in the early 20th century.
Martvili Monastery was active before the Soviet Union. The Lavra of the Fathers operated here, in the following years compulsory inaction reigned in the monastery, since 1998, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II, Martvili again became a monastery complex. A patriarchal residence was built in the vicinity of the church. The Father's monastery of St. Andrew the First-Called, the Nunnery of St. Nino were founded. The life of the nuns and monks was renewed.
In one of the most prominent places of the Martvili Monastery - the royal room, which was a treasure trove in the late Middle Ages, now with the blessing of Reverend Peter, a chapel-museum has been opened, where relics of different times are kept.
Martvili - Chkondidi temple, the beauty of Georgian architecture, was built in the 7th century. According to legend, here the pagans sacrificed the infants to their idol - Chkondidi (big oak). The communion table of Martvili is set at the foot of this oak, which was miraculously cut by Andrew the First-Called during the conversion of western Georgia. According to Dubois de Montpéreux, some of the remains of an idol shrine previously standing here are embedded in the walls of the present cathedral. In the VI-VII centuries, when the Church of the Martyrs and a monastery were built here, it was called Martvili. The name of Chkondidi was chosen for the Episcopal Cathedral.
Martvili is a Greek word meaning martyr, and the Megrelian name Chkondidi is derived from Didi Chkoni - a large oak. In the past, the high hill of Chvenia, on which the monastery stands now, was decorated with millennial trees of Chkoni (oak).
In the 10th century, this church became one of the hubs of the Georgian Church by King George II of Abkhazia, when he declared it as an episcopal see. The temple was a powerful educational center. Bagrat IV appointed Giorgi Mtatsmindeli as the chair of Chkondidi. According to The Georgian Chronicles, Bagrat IV is buried in Martvili Monastery.

Frozen Lake Vlog in TURTLE LAKE,GEORGIA ,TBILISI.

Turtle Lake in Tbilisi is one of the most popular places for recreation and entertainment for Tbilisians, notably for its mild, continental, moderately dry climate, with winter mild, and light snow. In the northern part of the slope of Turtle Lake there is an open-air ethnographic museum, which is a miniature model of Georgia.

The cable car that connected Lake Turtle to the city center was built in the second half of the 20th century and operated until 2009. In 2016, an updated ropeway was opened. Two gondolas were launched on the new ropeway on Turtle Lake. It is possible to get to Turtle Lake from Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue in 6 minutes. Each gondola can accommodate 10-12 people, including one permanent dispenser. Gondolas and stations are adapted for people with disabilities.

It is noteworthy that in 2016, Gambusia fish were released into Turtle Lake to eat mosquitoes that spread the Zika virus. Within the framework of the memorandum signed between the Ministry and the Georgian Fishermen's Club, the members of the club transported Gambusia fish from western Georgia, in particular from Abasha, and dropped them into Turtle Lake. tle Lake - or Kork Lake - is a lake in Georgia, in the city of Tbilisi.

Mein GEHEIMTIPP für Georgien ???????? I Martvili I Vlog #06 I With engl. subtitles

Samuel :)

English Version:

In this vlog, my girlfriend and I discover the untouched nature around the small town of Martvili on our trip through Georgia. The place is about four hours by car from Tbilisi and two and a half hours from Batumi, the city we were in before.

Among other things, we hitchhike to the hot sulfur springs, the Abasha River and other beautiful places in nature. The famous Martvili Canyon was unfortunately closed, which is why we drive to Balda Canyon. It turns out to be an absolute insider tip. Crystal clear water, calm surroundings and you can even swim there!
We slept in a cute hostel called Karma Hostel. Highly recommended!

Once again a simply great experience on our trip through Georgia.

I hope that my video motivated you to pack your backpack, get on the plane and travel yourself. Maybe also the beautiful nature around Martvili.

Have fun watching and greetings

Samuel :)
