Exploring SKOPJE in MACEDONIA ???????? Old City, Old Bazaar, and MACEDONIAN FOOD!!!

What a great capital to explore Skopje turned out to be!

Upon waking up I decided to take an early walk to surprise Paige with coffee and a traditional Macedonian breakfast of donuts! 0:08

After breakfast we decided to walk along the promenade and take in the beautiful architecture on both the buildings and the bridges! We also found a restaurant on the river which was in the shape of a boat, which the locals told me was a front for something else—if you know anything about this please leave a comment below! 0:38

We continued from there to the old city which seems to be the Muslim quarter of Skopje. This was by far the most crowded area in all of Skopje, particularly the Bazaar. The Bazaar was something we stumbled on and did not see it in any of the travel guides as a place to visit, however it was a great find! 2:01

From there we went to a restaurant called “Old City House” which was a recommendation. Once again, Macedonian Baked Beans were on the menu, and also on the table in front of us. 4:36

While we were at lunch, it started pouring rain, so we waited a bit for the bus of the storm to bypass before we headed to the Skopje City Mall, just to have something to do inside and not get wet. 5:22

When we left the mall, we walked nearly three miles back to the apartment, and had dinner in a recommended Mexican Restaurant called “Amigos.” 7:00

Tomorrow we leave Macedonia and head onward to Kosovo! Don’t forget to check that video when it’s posted!

When we decided to take a month to travel, there were few options for Americans due to the current health situation. Macedonia was one of those options, and as my research continued, I stumbled upon Skopje on nearly every list of places to see in Macedonia as a highlight of the country, of course because it's the capital!

This is part nine in a series that started with flying from London, so if you missed part one, two, three, four, five, six, seven or eight, be sure to check them out! And as always, thank you for watching!!!

???????? LAKE OHRID, North Macedonia | The BALKANS' Final Surprise | Things to do in OHRID in 2020

???????? OHRID, NORTH MACEDONIA - Hi everyone and welcome to my final video from the Balkans for 2020! This time, we’re heading to the south of North Macedonia to check out some things to do in Ohrid - located on Lake Ohrid, very close to the border with Albania.

Ohrid is a popular vacation spot for tourists from across the Balkans and is growing in popularity by the day! In this video we do as much we possibly can in one day, from visiting Ohrid’s ancient amphitheatre, Samuel’s Fortress and the old town as well as jumping on one of the many boat trips on Lake Ohrid to visit the Bay of Bones, a recreation of a prehistoric dwelling and the Monastery of St Naum. We also check out some food back in Ohrid itself at Hotel Tino!

So, if you’re planning a Macedonia trip this year, Ohrid really is a must. It’s beautiful!

???????? Skopje's Toughest Hike | VODNO Mountain | Things to do in SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA

???????? SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA - Hi everyone and welcome back to the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje! This lesser-known country in the Balkans comes up with an interesting history just as the rest of the Balkans does. This is Part 2 of my series from the Macedonian capital. In Part 1 we explored some history, checked out the crazy statues and described some first impressions which would be useful if you’re planning a trip to North Macedonia in 2020!

This time we’re solely focusing on one point - Vodno Mountain. Located to the south of the city, the highest point is at 1066m (3497feet) where you can find the Millennium Cross, built in the early 2000s, overlooking in the city and possibly giving visitors the best view of the city possible.

There are multiple ways to get up there including driving and the bus to Middle Vodno. From there you need to get the cable car to Krstovar (Place of the Cross). Note that this video was filmed slap bang in the middle of Covid-19 and the cable car was closed meaning I had to hike the entire way on the most difficult route.

On a normal day, you can eat at the top or go up in an elevator to get an even better view! Just be careful if you do need to climb down on foot, I got caught in a storm and it can be dangerous!

If you visit Skopje I hope you have a great time! Don't forget to check out my other Skopje videos in my Balkans playlist which also includes videos from Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

???????? SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA - Welcome back to Part 3 of my series from the Balkan country of North Macedonia (or the Republic of Macedonia, depending on who you speak to!) If you're planning to visit Skopje to experience all things Macedonian, a trip the Old Bazaar in Skopje is a must to experience some authentic Balkan food, such as Tavče gravče, which is said to be Macedonia's signature dish.

In this Skopje travel video we head to the following restaurant - Snoshti Minav to sample Tavče gravče which consists of butter beans, onion, paprika and variety of peppers. It's served in an earthenware pot which helps keep it warm and it can take a long time to prepare, just like most Balkan food!

As well as checking out some more things to do in Skopje such as Tavče gravče in addition to the previous videos the centre of town and up Vodno Mountain at the Millennium Cross, I also give a lengthy update for long-term viewers and subscribers on upcoming plans as long-term traveller and digital nomad!

ISTANBUL, TURKEY | 7 INCREDIBLE Things To Do In Istanbul!

Istanbul is located in the northwest of Turkey and is the largest city in the country. It’s not the capital city of Turkey, but is known as the country’s economic, cultural and historic center. There are many historical places to visit as well as lots of interesting art, architecture, culinary heritage, and a vibrant local atmosphere. Try to stay at least 3 to 5 days in this bustling city to be able to enjoy the many things to do. In this video we'll highlight 7 INCREDIBLE things to do in Istanbul, Turkey!

7. Istiklal Street
The 7th best thing to do in Istanbul is to explore the vibrant Istiklal Street. Istiklal is the busiest street in the city, comparable to Oxford Street in London or Fifth Avenue in New York City. This long stretch has a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and much more.

✅Istanbul Food Tour:

6. “Relax” at a Hamam
The Turkish bath, or hamam, is an important part of Turkish culture. It’s a type of steam bath and also a place of public bathing that was used primarily within the Ottoman Empire starting in the 16th century. There are about 60 baths in Istanbul, offering just the traditional bath or including massages. The price can range from $15 to $50.

5. Galata Bridge & Bosphorus
The 5th best thing to do in Istanbul is to walk the Galata Bridge in the heart of Istanbul. This bridge spans the Golden Horn and stretches between modern Istanbul on the north and the Old Town of Istanbul on the south. The Golden Horn is actually an inlet of the Bosphorus river, which forms the border between the European and the Asian continent.

4. Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is an architectural highlight in Istanbul and therefore ranks at number 4. Home to the Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years, this palace was the heart of the vast Ottoman Empire. The palace has hundreds of rooms decorated with beautiful tiles, gold, and other decorations.

3. Galata Tower
The 3rd best thing to do in Istanbul is to visit the Galata Tower. This historic tower sits high above the city and is visible from all angles. It was once used as a watchtower, but is now converted into a museum. It offers the best view of Istanbul!

2. Shop at the Grand & Spice Bazaar
The runner-up activity is to shop at the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar. Both are located in the old town of Istanbul, near the Galata Bridge. The Spice Bazaar is a giant covered market with the majority of shops selling food. The market is also close to the Grand Bazaar, which is the true centre of hustle and bustle. With over 4,000 shops, the Grand Bazaar has a little bit of everything.

Hagia Sophia + Free Walking Tour
The best thing to do in Istanbul is to visit the Hagia Sophia. Located in the heart of Sultanahmet, this is one of the most impressive and important buildings ever constructed. It’s now free to enter, but to fully understand the importance of this building we encourage you to go on a “free walking tour”. Free walking tours run daily at 10:30AM.

THIS IS PRISTINA! Kosovo's Booming Capital (Cultural Travel Guide) #pristina #pristine #prishtina

Europe's newest capital city feels like a college town, such is the youthful feel on the streets and the abundance of inviting cafes. It may not be blessed with traditionally beautiful architecture but there are plenty of reasons to enjoy a visit to this emerging destination. This film takes you to the principal sites as well as providing an insight into the city's history, both pre and post war. Change is everywhere and I fully expect that a visit in five years' time will witness a very different city. But don't wait that long - prices of food and accommodation are still very low by European standards and the locals delight in welcoming visitors to their newborn capital and home town to Kosovo's biggest star, Dua Lipa!

ISTANBUL TURKEY: TOP 21 UNMISSABLE Things To Do (MUST Watch Before Visiting!!!)

Istanbul Turkey: Top 21 Unmissable Things to do (Must watch before visiting!!!)

In this video, I share with you the top 21 things to do when in Istanbul Turkey. This is as close one can get to a full travel guide when in Istanbul, Turkey for at least one week.

Istanbul is a city that has so much to offer and if it is visited properly, it is unforgettable.

I begin this video by sharing my visit to Taksim Square and Istiklal Street. The first time I walked on Istiklal Street was quite memorable for me as I was impressed by how much there is to see in terms of shops, particularly food places.

After walking this street, the Galata Tower will appear and it is an absolute must-see if you are in Istanbul because of the fact that it is among the first landmarks you'll see when watching any video or viewing any photos of Istanbul. It is 1,000 years old and the views from above are spectacular.

Another great place I found was Balat. This is a special neighborhood where you can see colorful houses. It's just a nice spectacle and the area is surrounded by trendy cafes and restaurants.

When in Balat, I highly recommend you go and visit the tomb of the legendary Yavuz Sultan Selim's (Selim I) tomb and mosque. Sultan Selim I was the 9th Sultan (King) of the Glorious Ottoman Empire and the First among the Ottoman Sultans who became the Caliph of the entire Muslim world in the early part of the 16th Century. His Mosque is exquisitely designed and the views from up there are wonderful as the entire complex is built upon a hill.

Now if you are in Istanbul for only 3 days, it may be a good idea to stay in Fatih District because you can easily access the Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Sultan Ahmet/Blue Mosque, Topkapi Museum and the Byzantine Hippodrome as these are all within walking distance.

I highly recommend spending time at the Topkapi Palace Museum as it was used by the earlier Sultans of the Ottoman Empire when they moved to Istanbul after the Conquest of Constantinople in 1453. You can visit this palace and see incredible exhibits, rooms, and structures. The Topkapi Harem requires an additional ticket but it's well worth buying

Another good palace to visit is the Dolmabahce Palace, which was built around 400 years after Topkapi Palace and is another incredible palace as well as a museum to view.

Eyup Sultan's tomb and Cami is a must-see place because the tomb is occupied by the blessed companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Sayyidina Ayub al Ansari رضي الله عنه

The mosque of Eyup Sultan رضي الله عنه is immensely impressive and you can easily use the cable cars near to the tomb to get up to Pierre Loti Hill to get great views from above.

Rumeli Fortress is also an interesting place to visit because it was built a year before the Ottomans took Constantinople in 1453 and this fortress played a key role in achieving victory.

The Aya Sofia is also in the Fatih District and it's one of the greatest houses of worship and mosque you'll ever visit. This house of worship was first built by Prophet Suleiman/Soloman عليه السلام

I highly recommend everyone to visit the blessed tombs and mosques of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Fatih Sultan Mehmet (Mehmed the Conqueror) as these are very significant kings among the 36 Sultans from the Ottomans.

Also, to learn more about the Ottomans, do take a look at this channel: @RoyalOttomanSociety

I also share a couple of cafes and a restaurant in this video as Turkish food is renowned around the world.

10 Things NOT To Do in Macedonia

Macedonia is a wonderful country to visit with its beautiful scenery, friendly people and delicious cuisine. As with any country, there are some things that you should avoid doing while there. Here are 10 things not to do while you are in Macedonia.

1. Don't Skip Declaring Valuables
A lot of tourists don't declare all of their valuables when they are leaving the country. This can lead to huge fines and a lot of trouble. You can avoid this from happening by declaring everything that you think is valuable.

2. Don't Plan To Stay The Entire Day In Ohrid
You may think that Ohrid is filled with a lot to do. However, it's only a small part of what Macedonia has to offer. You are better off only spending a little amount of time in this area and spending the majority of your time in Bitola.

3. Don't Pass On The Rakija
This drink is similar to brandy but even more delicious. Make sure you don't pass on trying it because you think that it's just like other drinks you've had before. It's best when taken as a shot as it can be very potent.

4. Don't Order Fries
Most of the food in Macedonia is good except for the fries. They tend to be soggy and lack taste. Don't order the fries while you're here, and save those calories for something else.

5. Don't Break The Alcohol Rules
There's some interesting alcohol rules in Macedonia. During the winter months, you can't purchase it after 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. when it's summer. Make sure you keep these rules in mind so that you don't inadvertently break them.

6. Don't Pass On The Markets
The markets are absolutely incredible. You can find a lot of organic fruits and vegetables here, and the locals are very friendly. Make sure you don't leave Macedonia without visiting a market or two.

7. Don't Forget To Exchange Your Money
You will need to exchange your money as the local shops won't take your dollars. Denars will be accepted pretty much everywhere in Macedonia, and you can get them in exchange offices. If you can find an ATM, you can withdrawal denars there as well.

8. Don't Get Offended By Questions From The Locals
The locals seem to want to know everything about visitors. Don't be offended by some of the questions that they ask. They are just trying to get to know you, and nothing is really off limits to them.

9. Don't Use Your Cell Without The Proper Sim Card
Many tourists try to use their cellular phone only to find that it doesn't work. Fortunately, you can easily get a SIM card to put in your phone that will allow you to have service. All you need to do is show your passport at one of the shops that sells them in order to get one.

10. Don't Buy Bottled Water Everywhere You Go
The water is safe to drink in Macedonia and pretty tasty. Because of this, there's no need to buy bottled water whenever you're thirsty. However bottled water is always safest, whenever you're away.

Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

???????? BRIT'S First Impressions of SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA | Statue OVERLOAD! | Travel 2020!

???????? SKOPJE, NORTH MACEDONIA - Welcome back everyone! We've moved on from Serbia, at least for the time being, to head to a new country for the next month - North Macedonia - a country I did not know much about before arriving!

Bordering Serbia to the north and Greece to the south, North Macedonia is a landlocked country with an immense history involving Alexander the Great, Mother Theresa and much more! In this video, we're in the capital, Skopje, looking at some history, taking a look around at the immense amount of statues, the Old Bazaar and the Fortress as well as the old Railway station, which is now a museum with a clock which stopped at the time of a major earthquake in 1963.

Is Skopje 'kitsch'? as everyone says? Are the architecture and statues providing a bizarre and inconsistent view of Skopje? Who knows!

Before you start banging on in the comments that I didn't go to certain places (LOL), this is the first of numerous videos from North Macedonia. Coming up is food, Ohrid, Matka Canyon, you name it! If you have any other suggestions, let me know!

Europe's Greatest Caves | Matka Canyon

There are 10 caves at Matka Canyon, with the shortest in length being 20 metres (65.6 feet) and the longest being 176 metres (577.4 feet). The canyon also features two vertical pits, both roughly extending 35 metres (114.8 feet) in depth.
Vrelo Cave
Located on the right bank of the Treska River, Vrelo Cave was listed as one of the top 77 natural sites in the world in the New7Wonders of Nature project.

Vrelo Cave has many stalactites including a large one in the middle of the cave is known as the Pine Cone due to its shape. There are two lakes at the end of the cave, with one larger than the other. The smaller lake is 8 metres (26.2 feet) at its longest length and 15 metres (49.2 feet) in depth at its deepest point. The larger lake is 35 metres (114.8 feet) at its longest length, and 18 metres (59 feet) at its deepest point.

Though the exact depth of the cave is unknown, some speculate that it could be the deepest underwater cave in the world.

Biology
Matka Canyon is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, some of which is unique to the area. Roughly 20% of plant life is found only at Matka. The canyon is also home to 77 endemic species of butterfly. The canyon's caves are home to large populations of bats.

Attractions[edit]
Due in large part to its proximity to Skopje, Matka Canyon is a popular destination for citizens and tourists. The canyon is one of Macedonia's foremost areas for alpine hiking. The climbing season begins around Easter and ends in November. Kayaking on the Treska River is a popular activity, as are fishing, hunting, and swimming.

Schaffhausen Switzerland & The Rhine Falls - Europe's Largest Waterfall | 98+ Countries with 3 Kids!

Join us as we visit Schaffhausen - a historic town in northern Switzerland.

Located on the Upper Rhine River between the Black Forest and Lake Constance, Schaffhausen has a lovely riverside location next to Switzerland’s largest waterfalls. The town is filled with Renaissance period architecture and offers numerous outdoor activities.

Being so close to the German border, Schaffhausen was mistaken as a German town & got bombed by the Allied forces in World War 2.

We started our tour with a stroll through the car-free Old Town that’s full of interesting details from fountain statues, intricately painted facades, decorated oriel windows, and more!

Then we took the yellow line boat to get an up close view of the Rhine Falls before ascending the middle rocky island. From here you can climb steep stairs to a viewing platform which offers a breathtaking view of the thundering waterfalls.

We also took a look inside Munot Castle which is on a hill overlooking the Old Town and has the best vantage point for the most wonderful view of the city and surrounding landscape. The last stop for the day was at CM Brauhaus, a local restaurant where we popped in to try their in-house brewed beer and specialty lunch menu!
