Episode 2/2 of Backpacking Montenegro. This time I doing lots of hiking and exploring of the mountains. After spending a night in Niksic, we got the bus directly to Zabljak which would be our base staying at Hikers Den Hostel. We hiked around the Black Lakes and up to Durmitor Camp in Durmitor National Park. Unfortunately the weather wasn't quite good enough to get to Bobotov Kuk but hopefully one day I can return and do this hike!

Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

Durmitor National Park, Montenegro
Durmitor National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the Balkans. The Park is located at wide mountain region in North West of Montenegro. The National Park of Durmitor spreads across 39000 hectares and includes 78 kilometers of canyon of the Tara with altitude of 1300 meters above level of the River. Canyon of Tara is the largest in Europe and has over 1500 kinds of flora and 163 kinds of birds. Djurdjevica Tara Bridge is a symbol of river Tara canyon. It is build from 1937 until 1940; 365 meters long and is 172 meters high. Special beauty is in its arches, from which the longest one is 116m stretched. Town of Žabljak is situated in the heart of Durmitor region, at the altitude of 1456 meters, what makes it the highest urban conglomerate in the Balkans. There are 18 gorgeous glacial lakes called “mountain eyes” in the area of Durmitor National Park. The most famous is the Black Lake, 3 km away from center of Žabljak town. Black Lake is the biggest and the deepest of the 18 glacier lakes of Durmitor Mountain. Located at the foot of the mountain Medjed, this lake consists of two smaller lakes, whose depth of the highest wather marks are 24,5 m and 49,1 m. Those 2 lakes are connected by a narrow strait, that dries in summer time, creating 2 completely separate lakes. There is a 4km walking track around the edge of the lake. It's an easy path through the forest and there are lots of places to stop for picnic and to enjoy the view. Zminje lake is one of the Durmitor lakes. Hidden in the depths of the forest, in the stillness, this place is created for meditation. The altitude of the Zminje lake is 1.520m, and its greatest depth is 7,7m. It is surrounded by a dense forest of spruce and other conifers, and is located at the spring of Mlinski Creek. There are 748 springs of pure mountain water within Durmitor National Park and forests in which trees are over 100 years old. Bobotov kuk is the highest peak of Durmitor Mountain (2525 meters high). Tracking, mountaineering, Alpine and Nordic skiing, rafting on Tara river, fishing and camping are ways of recreation that are done in the Park. The breathtaking Durmitor National Park is truly exquisite in terms of its diversities which for its favorable climatic conditions and specific reflection of mountain lakes, breathtaking canyons and blossoming meadows provide unforgettable experience and impressions to every visitor.

???? October 11th, 2021 ▶️ Coming back to Montenegro from the Peaks of the Balkans Trek, I made my way straight to the main mountain area of the country: The amazing Durmitor National Park! Renting out a cosy small cabin in Žabljak, I had the perfect base to explore the Durmitor Ring Road including a short detour to the Piva Lakes as well as the smaller lakes in the area. My time in Durmitor ended with the most amazing winter wonderland landscapes thanks to a lot of fresh snow! ❄

Montenegro Travel Video ???????? | Mountain Road Trip & Traditional Food in Snowy Zabljak
Our time in Kotor has ended and for this Montenegro travel video, we packed our family in a rental car and hit the mountain road. We were headed for the beautiful town of Zabjak, Montenegro. We expected a scenic trip, but we got way more than we bargained for, like nothing we've see in our American travels. Ride with us as we travel through some of the most breathtaking countryside that we've ever seen, and as we arrive in a snowy winter (except it was Spring) wonderland. Let's just say it cracked us up a little. Join us for the the ride, it was quite an adventure!

The Durmitor National Park in Montenegro - travel guide
The Durmitor National Park is the largest national park in Montenegro, and is located in the northern part of the country, in the Durmitor Masiff, which is included in the Dinaric Alps. This breathtaking national park in the mountains was formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams. Along the Tara river canyon, which has the deepest gorge in Europe, the dense pine forests are mixed with clear lakes and had a wide range of endemic flora.

DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK, MONTENEGRO (2023) | The Epic Prutaš Peak Hike Overview
Durmitor National Park is located in the northeast of Montenegro. With nearly 50 peaks over 2,000 meters above sea level, the Durmitor area attracts numerous hikers and nature enthusiasts. The most-visited spot is undoubtedly the stunning Black Lake, which is the largest glacial lake in the park. Other highlights include rafting or ziplining in the Tara Canyon, mountain biking or driving the panoramic P14 route, or hiking to one of the many peaks. Bobotov Kuk is the most popular hiking trail and it’s the highest peak at 2,523m or 8,277ft of elevation. But if you’re looking for a hike that’s less exposed and quieter than Bobotov Kuk, but just as beautiful, then we recommend hiking to Prutaš Peak. The locals we talked to described this hike as having the best ratio of effort versus beauty, and we agree! In this video, we break down everything you need to know for the Prutas Peak hike and showcase it’s beautiful views.
