Świdnica is a town that occupies the south-western part of Poland. The city is very often called the heart of Europe, which is also very closely related to its location - in the immediate vicinity of Świdnica there is the A4 motorway, which is an important element creating one of the European communication routes. When it comes to the geographical location of Świdnica, it is situated at the foot of the Sudetes and the Wałbrzyskie Mountains. It also covers the area of the Świdnica Plain. Świdnica is one of the largest cities in Lower Silesia (the city covers an area of approximately 21 square kilometers). Świdnica can pride itself on over 700 years of history. This historic city used to have a typical merchant character, it also served as one of the capitals of the former Duchy of Świdnica-Jawor.
The Old Town is considered to be the center of the whole Świdnica. Its areas began to take shape in the Middle Ages and in the following years it has undergone further transformations to the present day. What is the undeniable attraction of the whole city is the fact that both its center - the Old Town, and the outskirts are surrounded by as many as 11 beautiful and picturesque parks. Due to its geographic location, Świdnica is undoubtedly an important tourist center, visited by many visitors from various parts of Poland. In addition to its geographical values, the city can also boast some objects that make its visit a real paradise for many tourists. When talking about the monuments of Świdnica, it is necessary to mention some sacred buildings, which are very important in this city. One of such buildings is certainly the Church of Peace under the invocation of the Holy Trinity, which not only plays a significant role in Świdnica - it is also considered the most valuable sacred building related to the Protestant art of the entire Silesia. It is also a building that can boast of being the largest wooden church in the entire European continent. This sacred building is closely related to the Thirty Years' War, or rather its end, during which it was decided to build a church. Another extremely fascinating sacred building in Świdnica, which is visited by many tourists with great enthusiasm, is the cathedral of Saint Stanislaus and Wenceslaus. This monument also stands out in a special way both in Silesia and the whole country. It is the cathedral tower, which ranks third in terms of height in Poland, and it is the second among the buildings in Silesia.
While in Świdnica, it is impossible not to go, of course, in the direction of the famous Old Town, where the Świdnica market and the town hall are located. The unusual ornament of the market square, which is another considerable attraction for tourists, is a group of sculptures, which is the work of a local artist - Georg Weber. There are many more interesting objects in Świdnica that tell about the history, tradition and culture of this city.

Świdnica (Poland)

Świdnica (German: Schweidnitz; Czech: Svídnice) is a city in south-western Poland. It's quite small, but old and nice city. The Gothic Church of Ss. Stanislav and Vaclav from the 14th century has the highest tower in Silesia, standing 103 meters tall. The Evangelical Church of Peace, a UNESCO Heritage site, was built from 1656–57. The 16th-century town hall has been renovated numerous times and combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements. The Baroque Church of St. Joseph and the Church of St. Christopher are from the same era. One remaining element of the former defensive works is the Chapel of St. Barbara.

Other notable destinations include the old town and the Stary Rynek square, Gola Dzierżoniowska Castle, Medieval town of Niemcza, Cistercian monastery at Henryków and the Wojsławice Arboretum.

Landmarks of Swidnica (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), Poland GoPro 1080p

The city's name was first recorded as Svidnica in 1070, when it was part of Piast-ruled Poland. Swidnica became a town in 1250, although no founding document has survived that would confirm the fact. The town belonged, at the time, to the Duchy of Wroclaw, a province of Poland. By 1290, Swidnica had city walls and six gates. The city was famous for its beer production and it's Crafts and trade were blossoming. In various cities of the region (Wroclaw, Olesnica or Brzeg) and Europe (Krakow, Torun, Prague or Pisa) there were so-called Swidnica Cellars – restaurants serving beer from Swidnica. In Wroclaw, Swidnica Cellar (Piwnica Swidnicka) exists to this day as the oldest restaurant in Europe; Swidnica, Poland 2019. Shots were taken with GoPro Hero 7 Black 2.7K downsized to 1080p HD.

Świdnica: a little pearl of Poland!!!

What a place! Today I take you through the beautiful city of Świdnica. I must say that it stole my heart. I walked the whole morning through this place in Lower Silesia. Rynek is stunning. The sunrise through the buildings. People getting ready for their day. Of course I visited the Church of Peace: Kosciół Pokoju. I had never seen anything like that before. And I climbed the Ratusz tower for some amazing views of the city and area. The mountains in the distance. Very special feelings up there. Sitting in the train and bus to Kłodzko I felt so much love from Poland and my journey.

What a country! What an area. Lower Silesia with all it's castles and palaces. Beautiful cities and towns. Rolling hills. What a trip this is!

Please help me explore Lower Silesia in Poland for the first time!! It will be such an awesome trip! A brand new area in Poland for me. Can't wait to fall even more in love with our beautiful country and show the world Poland's beauty ????????♥️

Let's explore. And enjoy. Feel free to subscribe and go on this never ending journey with me ????

The Old Town & City Hall, Swidnica, Poland GoPro 1080p

Swidnica is a historic merchant town over 700-year-old, picturesquely located near the Sudety Mountains. The Town Square is enchanting, and its tenement houses abound with Gothic, Baroque, Classicistic and Art Nouveau architectural embellishments. In addition, a series of Baroque sculptures, two corner statues, a statue of the Holy Trinity and four fountains decorate the Town Square. Two of these fountains are handsomely adorned with figures representing a pair of mythological heroes – Atlas and Neptune; Swidnica, Poland 2019. Walking in amazing Świdnica (Poland) - Old Market & Church of Peace [2023 June]

Świdnica is called Wroclaw Number Two - mainly thanks to its Old Town Square Market, which is quite similar to the one in Wroclaw. But this town has got something Wroclaw hasn't - a great Church of Peace. That is why I went to Świdnica for the footage used in this video. Enjoy it, comment and share with friends :-)

-UNESCO- Holy Trinity Church of Peace in Świdnica. Largest Wooden Church - Swidnica Poland - ECTV

The Holy Trinity Church of Peace in Świdnica - the largest wooden Baroque temple in Europe,[1] a historic religious building built under the agreements of the Treaty of Westphalia signed in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War.[2] It belongs to the Świdnica parish of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland. The building has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2001.[3]

Świdnica's Church of Peace was one of the three Churches of Peace (after Głogów and Jawor) that the Catholic Emperor Ferdinand III, under pressure from Protestant Sweden, allowed to be built in the Habsburg hereditary principalities in Silesia. All churches built by Catholics and taken over by Protestants were returned to the Catholic Church. After the war broke out, the Evangelicals were deprived of the right to profess their own faith and hold their own churches. However, in the principalities ruled by the Silesian Piasts - mostly Evangelicals - all churches were allowed to remain Protestant.

The construction of the Churches of Peace was intentionally subject to additional conditions that were to make their construction more difficult or, in the event of their completion, cause the temple to be used for a short period of time. The foundation stone of the church in Świdnica was laid on 23 August 1656. The author of the project was a Wrocław master builder Albrecht von Saebisch. The church was built by Andreas Kaemper, a carpenter from Świdnica. To raise funds for the construction a native of Świdnica Christian Czepko set off on a journey around European Protestant courts. Silesian Evangelicals of all social classes, from peasants to townsmen and noblemen, were involved in the construction.

After 10 months of construction the first service in the new Świdnica church was held on 24 June 1657.[1]

In 1708, during the Great Northern War, when the religious situation of Evangelicals improved, again under pressure from the Swedish king, a bell tower and an Evangelical school were built next to the church. Both buildings survived to this day.

Main altar
Although the church was founded as a result of religious conflicts, it is a symbol of reconciliation. In 1989, Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl prayed together for peace in the church. In 2011, the church hosted the Swedish royal couple Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia. In 2014, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz participated in an ecumenical prayer for peace. In September 2016, the Appeal for Peace was signed in the Świdnica church by representatives of Christian faiths, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism (represented by the Dalai Lama XIV).

The Church of Peace in Świdnica was built in the wattle and daub system as a centrally located building based on a wooden frame filled with a mass of clay and straw. It was built on a Greek cross plan. The central building was complemented by the Baptismal Hall and the sacristy in the east, the Hall of the Dead in the west, the Wedding Hall in the south, and the Field Hall in the north. It is 44 m long and 30.5 m wide. The first floor and four floors of galleries can accommodate 7,500 people (including 3,000 seats). The church was built with the intention to accommodate as many people as possible, which was important especially in the times when freedom of religion was restricted for Protestants, as it was one of the two Protestant churches in the Świdnica-Jawor Principality. Therefore, the temple has a vast internal space (1090 m2) and volume.

The altar and the pulpit are among the most valuable pieces of equipment in the church.

Pulpit
The Baroque pulpit, work of Gotfried August Hoffmann, dates back to 1729. The staircase is decorated with biblical scenes: Pentecost, Golgotha and Paradise. The balustrade has carved allegories of Faith, Hope and Love. Above the door to the pulpit is a sculpture of Jesus the Good Shepherd.

Ceiling
The main altar, also a work of Hoffmann, was commissioned for the church's centennial in 1752 and completed the following year. Above the altar mensa is a small relief depicting the Last Supper. The center features the Baptism of Christ and the figures of Moses, High Priest Aaron and the apostles Peter and Paul. Above, a frieze with the inscription rests on six Corinthian columns: Dies ist mein geliebter Sohn, an dem ich Wohlgefallen habe (This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased - Matthew 3:17). In the center, at the height of the frieze, is an allegory of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Above, under the canopy, a golden triangle, surrounded by rays, with the tetragram of God's name written in Hebrew script - an allegory of God the Father. At the top of the altar, a lamb with a flag stands on a book with seven seals.

The Church of Peace (inclusive of the Baroc Cafe), Swidnica, Poland GoPro 1080p

The Church of Peace in Swidnica (German: Schweidnitz) in Silesia was named after the Peace of Westphalia of 1648. It permitted the Lutherans of Silesia to build three churches from wood, loam and straw outside the city walls, without steeples and church bells. Also, the construction time was limited to one year only. Despite the physical and political constraints, three of the churches (with only two surviving) became the biggest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe due to its pioneering constructional and architectural solutions. The church in Swidnica is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. In 2001 was recognised by UNESCO and listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Swidnica, Poland 2019. Książ Castle or Książ Zamek. AMAZING PLACE!!! - Swidnica Poland - ECTV

Książ (pronounced: Ksyonsh [ˈkɕɔ̃ʂ], Polish: Zamek Książ, German: Fürstenstein) is the largest castle in the Silesia region, located in northern Wałbrzych in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. It lies within Książ Landscape Park, a protected area located in the Wałbrzyski Foothills. The castle overlooks the gorge of the Pełcznica river and is one of the Wałbrzych's main tourist attractions.

A first fortification at the site was destroyed by the Bohemian forces of King Ottokar II in 1263. The Silesian duke Bolko I the Strict (d. 1301), ruler in Świdnica and Jawor, had a new castle built from 1288 to 1292 and took his residence here, adding Lord of Książ to his titles. The burgraviate included the neighbouring settlements of Świebodzice, Szczawno, and Pełcznica. When the last Świdnica duke Bolko II the Small died in 1368 without children, the castle's estates passed to the Luxembourg king Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia, the son of Bolko's niece Anne, while his widow Agnes of Habsburg reserved the usufruct for herself. After her death in the year 1392, King Wenceslaus, also King of the Romans since 1376, seized the Duchy of Świdnica and obtained Książ Castle.

As Agnes, contrary to her limited real rights, had sold the Książ estates, the castle passed through many hands. In 1401 it was obtained by the Bohemian noble Janko of Chotěmice (d. after 1442), who later rose to a governor of the Świdnica-Jawor lands. During the Hussite Wars, the castle was captured by the insurgents and occupied in 1428-1429. After Janko's death, the Bohemian king George of Poděbrady acquired Książ from his descendants and transferred the administration to the Moravian general Birka of Nasiedle. In 1466 Hans von Schellendorf obtained the castle from the Bohemian Crown. It was renamed Fürstenstein.

The second castle complex was devastated in 1482 by Georg von Stein, a military commander in the service of the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus while his forces campaigned in Silesia. Stein granted Frederick von Hohberg the estates, his descendant Konrad I von Hohberg obtaining the castle hill in 1509. The von Hohberg family were elevated to the rank of Freiherren (Baron) in 1650, Graf (Count) in 1666, and Imperial counts (Reichsgrafen) in 1683, and owned the castle until 1944.

During World War II, the castle was seized by the Nazi regime in 1944 after Count Hans Heinrich XVII of Hochberg, Prince of Pless, had moved to England in 1932 and became a British citizen; moreover, his brother Count Alexander of Hochberg, also a Polish citizen and owner of Pszczyna Castle, had joined the Polish army in 1939. Supervised by SS and Organisation Todt personnel, the building complex at Fürstenstein became part of the vast underground Project Riese complex, presumably a projected Führer Headquarter and a future abode for Adolf Hitler.[1][2] Construction works were carried out under inhumane conditions by forced labourers and inmates of Gross-Rosen concentration camp. The castle was subsequently occupied by Red Army forces in the wake of the Vistula–Oder Offensive in 1945. A memorial marks the site of the Fürstenstein subcamp. Parts of the historic building structure were demolished during reconstruction; numerous artefacts were stolen or destroyed during the Soviet occupation.

After the war the castle complex was used as a recreation home and cultural centre by the communist authorities. In recent years, large parts of the interior have been elaborately restored. Parts of the tunnel complex beneath the castle are currently used by the Polish Academy of Sciences for gravimeter measuring, while several tunnels are accessible to the public on guided tours.
