1.6kg Steak Challenge - Bistecca Alla Fiorentina ????????

LEGENDARY 1.3KG Florentine Steak! Eating Bistecca alla Fiorentina in Italy! ????????

IS IT WORTH IT?! Today we are trying the BEST steak in Florence, Italy! Weighing a whopping 1.3kg (2.8 lbs) and served rare on a sizzling hot stone, Bistecca alla Fiorentina is a traditional Florentine dish! But...is it worth the hefty €112 price tag??

Trattoria dall’Oste has four steak houses across Florence sourcing the best breeds of cattle from Italy and the world. Bistecca alla Fiorentina or The Florentine Steak is a thick t-bone beef cut weighing anywhere from 1kg-4kg (2lb-8lb) and typically from the Chianina breed of cattle. The steak is grilled over a wood fire until it develops a charred crust on the outside while remaining rare and juicy on the inside, then traditionally, seasoned only with salt.

According to who you talk to, there are a few rules to craft the perfect Bistecca alla Fiorentina:
● It must be eaten rare.
● The thickness is measured in fingers. To be Florentine, a steak has to be at least 3 fingers thick.
● It must be cooked using a certain wood and at a constant temperature.
● There is no sauce – the only thing added after cooking, is some salt.
● It's not supposed to be just part of a dish, this is the dish.

Huge Dose of 'Fiorentina' Steaks Cut and Roasted on Grill. Italy Street Food

International Street Food Festival - Gusti di Frontiera, Gorizia, Italy

Cooking a Bistecca alla Fiorentina is definitely an art. The steak should always be cooked from room temperature and never from the fridge. A high temperature is required and the steak is cooked for just 3–5 minutes on each side, turning it once, with no condiments. The outside of the steak should be almost charred, with distinct grill lines from having been over live charcoal coals (no gas or electric hobs will do here!) and the inside will be very rare and only warm, certainly not piping hot. Just a light shower of salt before serving is perfect. Pepper, olive oil and other things are generally signs of a less than perfect steak.

■ ITALY, FLORENCE: Tuscany's capital is world famous for its Bistecca Alla Fiorentina. A type of beef that isn't necessarily slayed locally but instead derived from a special breed of bull and prepared in a specific manner which dates back to the middle ages. Traditionally they are served extremely rare!

As a huge connoisseur of beef, this was naturally something I had to try and film for you guys. I therefore started sampling various restaurants across Florence over two weeks ago in search of the finest T-bone cut in he city.

In all honesty I've yet to run into a bad steak anywhere in this city. But there is one restaurant I keep coming back to that offers the best value in terms of price and quality: Trattoria Dall'Oste. Hence why I choose this restaurant to showcase Florence's greatest dish.

So did I defeat the mighty 1.6kg T-bone steak put in front of me? And were I able to walk afterwards?

Florentine STEAK ????in Florence Italy ???????? Best foods to try! #travel #tuscany

Going to Italy was a dream come true! We had the most amazing trip! Today our adventures include tips for train travel while in Italy and foods to try while in Florence, Italy.
If you have watched he previous videos (and I hope you have!) you know that I (Mrs. Karnes) have a slight obsession with the Medici. With that being said, it will come as no surprise that we are going to try a food that they made famous, Florentine steak. You may be wondering why this steak is so famous and a must-try while in Florence and I am going to try and shed some light on that for you.
The Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or Florentine steak is an Italian steak made of young steer or heifer that, combined with a specific preparation, makes it one of the MOST popular dishes ofTuscan cuisine. It is a high cut including the bone, to be cooked on the embers or on a grill, to a doneness of between blue/rare (50 degrees Celsius or 122 degrees Fahrenheit).
It was traditionally served on August 10, on the feast ofSaint Lawrence to the House of Medici. This special type of beef was raised and served to them and their guests. These steaks are always cut to be at least three fingers thick and weigh over a kilo, thats at least 2lbs. 3 ounces.
The steak was wonderful and the potatoes and salad we had were also exceptionally good! The food in Florence is no joke! It is a food lovers place to visit.
We had our steak at Trattoria I'Parione. We even got to sit in the wine cellar and that was delightful! Our server was amazing and treated us like family. They have an extensive selection of wines (that made Me's day!). Our server was so sweet, he even brought me a glass of Grappa at the end of our meal, on the house!
After dinner we headed back to our hotel and decided to visit the rooftop bar SE.STO on Arno. This iconic venue overlooking the city with a unique setting in the heart of Florence makes Se.sto on Arno a perfect stop for dinner or an after-dinner drink. The night views of Florence are amazing from this vantage spot and we were even able to peek at a wedding being held on one of the brilliantly lit streets below. This was the perfect ending to our perfect day in Florence!
In this video we also visit Chiesa di Ognissanti or The Church of All Saints. This church was right across from our hotel, The Westin Excelsior, and was very beautiful. A visit worth making if you are staying near or at The Westin Excelsior.
Thanks so much for joining us on our Italian Adventures! We have more videos to come about Italy so PLEASE subscribe to our channel so you won't miss a single thing! We really appreciate each and every person who takes the time to watch, subscribe or like one of our videos.
We know that we are Living the GOOD Life! and we hope that you are too! See you next Sunday with another exciting Italian Adventure!
Salute! ????????

I was an Italian Master Chef ????????

■ ITALY, FLORENCE: The most challenging meal I've indulged in thus far in Florence, wasn't the 1.6 kg T-bone steak but Lisa's Lampredotto. It's not that the sandwich wasn't good. It really was quite tasty!

It was more about having the knowledge of what I was eating and somehow muster the willpower to keep munching down on it despite my better judgement.

Having seen my Lampredotto video, Martina, Florence's greatest tour guide, challenged me to sample some even more exotic ancient meals of Florence. So down to the 130 year old street food market known locally as Mercato di San Lorenzo I went.

Objective: devour the most daring meals the city has got to offer. But first I was lured into taking the job as an Italian street food master chef! My first order, Panino con l'arrosto (whatever that is).

■ MARTINA'S CONTACT DETAILS: If you wish to join Martina on a food or history excursion you can write her at her e-mail address is in the top left corner
