The UFC 254 showdown marked another historic first in Abu Dhabi, holding two @UFC numbered pay-per-view events in the same city outside of Las Vegas. Learn more:
Following the undisputed success of the July 2020 inaugural series, Return to UFC Fight Island was the second event in UFC Fight Island™ series, returning to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, a premier hub for world-class leisure and entertainment, in October 2020.
Seeing Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje go head to head in a UFC fight, the series’ epic comeback took place less than three months after UFC Fight Island, marking another historic first for Abu Dhabi and positioning the emirate as the sporting capital of the world.
Khabib was declared the winner against Justin Gaethje, in what was the final fight of his illustrious career that saw him unbeaten in 29 MMA bouts. Khabib announced soon after the fight that he would be retiring.
Showcasing the Safe Zone concept – a safety bubble for all - UFC Fight Island (where the UFC fights were held) was conceptualised and managed by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi. Built to ensure a large-scale Covid-free event in the midst of a pandemic, what was impressive about this, and what set Abu Dhabi’s undertaking apart from other Covid-free bubbles, was the sheer size of the self-contained environment. Participants were not confined to their hotel, but rather had access to Yas Beach, Yas Golf Club and Yas Links golf course, as well as the Yas Marina Circuit racing track. To make this happen, Abu Dhabi had to administer roughly 18,000 tests.
In preparation, Abu Dhabi also had to lockdown and Covid proof seven hotels (2,200 hotel rooms in total), an arena, beach, golf course and racing circuit. Then it got the testing in place, catering, support staff tested, isolated, and in place, all before any door was opened.
To attend Fight Island, all participants were required to have a negative Covid test before boarding their flights. They were then tested again upon arrival and isolated in their rooms at the hotel for 48 hours. After proving negative, there was still a third test, but after this test, the visitors were permitted to leave their hotel rooms and explore the rest of the bubble.
As you can see Abu Dhabi takes the safety of its visitors seriously. The same goes for the tourists who visit the emirate. The emirate’s ‘Go Safe Certification’ enforces global safety and hygiene standards across Abu Dhabi’s hotels, attractions, malls, hospitality facilities and public venues, and supports wider efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, which include widespread testing, city-wide sanitation, social distancing, and enhanced healthcare services.
If you’re thinking of visiting Dubai, come to Abu Dhabi before or after your Dubai trip. Only an hour away from Dubai by car, Abu Dhabi is a must-visit stop on your UAE trip.

Surat Thani (สุราษฎร์ธานี) - When I was in Surat Thani my friend P’Tan ( recommended his favorite restaurant for river fish and southern Thai food, called Rim Nam Restaurant ครัวริมน้ำ เขาหัวควาย. It’s a little outside of the city, but well worth the drive if you love to eat - especially river fish food.
I loved the look of the restaurant as soon as we arrived, very peaceful and quiet overlooking the river, surrounded by lush greenery and mountains.
Here are the dishes we ordered:

Sour Curry, Bamboo Shoots แกงส้มหน่อไม้
Steamed Marble Goby ปลาบู่นึ่งซีอิ๊ว
Wild Boar Curry ผัดเผ็ดหมูป่า
Omelet ไข่เจียว
Total price - 2,200 THB (67.80 USD) - But just to note, most of the bill was because of the fresh marble goby fish we ordered.
The highlight dishes were steamed marble goby fish and the wild boar curry. But all the dishes were fantastic and I loved the setting and the amazing Southern Thai food.

青海特色玫瑰花饼，大如案板，一碰就碎，味道又咸又甜
探寻世界美味，从南吃到北，从白吃到黑，我是雪鱼。
来青海之后，才知道原来这里也有玫瑰花饼，跟云南的不同，这里的玫瑰饼超级大，足足有16斤，一个饼就能覆盖整个案板。制作的时候，擀好的面皮加入玫瑰酱等原料，卷成圆柱形，然后再一圈一圈的盘好，这个时候需要2个人一起捧着进入烤盘，烤好的玫瑰饼看起来就像一朵玫瑰花，切开之后，侧面的纹理清晰可辨，颜色轻重过渡均匀，就像一片片的玫瑰花瓣。掰一块最里面的内瓤，看起来像七彩丹霞地貌，美食突然有了别样的意义，这一小块就是大自然的缩影，看着就赏心悦目。

Spent a weekend in Yunnan with my friend while studying abroad. We took a flight from Shanghai to Kunming, a train to Lijiang to visit the Ancient Town of Lijiang, a train to Dali to see the 3 pagodas, and then back to Kunming :))
