SAPPORO, JAPAN - One of the things I was most looking forward to doing when I was in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, was going to the Sapporo Crab Market. The crab market is located outside the main seafood wholesale market, filled with seafood restaurants serving all things seafood, but especially plenty of Hokkaido crab.
Ume e dou Restaurant - After walking around for a while, we chose to eat at Ume e dou Restaurant, a small and friendly seafood restaurant on the main road, with a number of tanks full of a variety of different Japanese crabs. I really wanted to try both the red king crab and a Japanese hanasaki crab, so we tried them both.
Both the crabs were first boiled, then for the red king crab (also known as an Alaskan king crab from the Bering Sea), they cut half of it and put it on the grill.
The crab was absolutely sensational, a crab meal dream come true for any crab lover. The hanasaki crab was more about the roe, and the meat was sweet, but with a bitter complexion. The red king crab was the sweet, stringy flesh you dream about. Both crabs were incredibly tasty and fresh, and it was fun to compare them side to side.
Total price - 34,000 JPY ($304.86) for everything (5 adults ate this)
Melon - 300 JPY ($2.69) - Sapporo seafood market is also known for fruits and vegetables, and a cold piece of melon was delicious after the crab.
Kaisen-Ichiba Kitano Gourmet - Finally, one of the most famous seafood restaurants in Sapporo is Kaisen-Ichiba Kitano Gourmet, really a seafood palace consisting of a fresh seafood market and restaurant. We headed to their restaurant and I had a mixed seafood donburi rice bowl. The seafood was fresh and vibrant, and quite good.
Price - 3,210 JPY ($28.78) for my bowl
If you love seafood and especially crab, Hokkaido is a great island to visit in Japan. Right in Sapporo, don’t miss the seafood market for incredibly fresh crabs!

This is our last day in Washington State and we spent it in Seattle. There's so much to do here, but we did not have the time. We met great friends that live here, and Aiden got to visit his dad. Considering the time restraint, there was lots of great food and sites packed in a short time.

I have a long layover in Anchorage before my flight home, so I decided to take a little bit of a detour and extend my stay for a few days exploring downtown Anchorage.
Obviously, there's a lot more to Alaska than just Anchorage, but seeing as I only have a limited amount of time, and no car, this is as good as it gets for my first experience in the state. And despite having the worst timing (I missed the Iditarod and Fur Rondy by a few days), I feel like I was able to see quite a bit of the city as winter draws to a close.

International House of Hotdogs (IHOH):
Food carts are apparently some of the best places to get food in Anchorage, especially in the summertime and during the Fur Rondy. Unfortunately, my time didn't line up with either so most of the carts weren't out. I did however find IHOH for my first experience with reindeer sausage!
49th State Brewing:
Craft brewing as well as great food, 49th State Brewing Company is the only place in the city that serves Yak meat! Oh, and they have a great selection of beer too!

We take you from the cruise ship port along the dock shoreline and around downtown Juneau. Get an idea of how Juneau looks before you get to Alaska, and hear my tips and information about the area. Also, take a look at our website where we have a large Alaska Travel and Moving guide with articles, photos, and videos of Juneau and around Alaska.
We have also begun a new travel guide for Alaska using our own content. Alaska businesses do change but from an adventure travel standpoint, nature stays fairly stable there but with some warming changes in the north. Our new guide has videos showing what it's like to travel the Alaska ferry system AKA the Marine Highway. The link here: will give you an edge since everything is real from our own perspective. We have extensive articles and videos showing businesses and areas of Denali State Park and our extensive photograph collection will also give you an idea of what to expect. Flying to remote locations from Juneau is also common and here is a link to my flights in small aircraft that I did manage to capture from the cockpit of the plane here: Juneau is the gateway to the Alaska Southeast and a short flight to Skagway, Haines or more can be taken for these short flights. The Ferry ride is also available and we like to just walk on and walk off into Skagway since it's a short walk to the hotels downtown. In Juneau, we recommend the 4 points by Sheraton (Marriott Owned now). In Skagway, we like Sgt. Preston's and it's simple, clean, warm, and roomy enough. It's also a short walk to food and the old Skagway experience year around. Winters are milder and we like unique photography during this time.

Hello everyone welcome to explore traveler i wanted to give you a kind of a first-hand view of juneau alaska i think i'm going to start adding these little walk-through tours where i walk through with my phone or a video camera of some kind and as you can see behind me you got the beautiful mountains of douglas some of the wharf structures restaurants and such and i'm just gonna kind of walk through and give everybody kind of a first-hand walking view of what it looks like here in juneau alaska and for those of you watching us on youtube or on our website exploretraveler.com we thank you for your assistance over the many years and we hope to continue to bring you more and more content no matter what the situation we'll just adapt and we'll keep bringing you new travel stuff from alaska and around the world thanks okay so i'm starting the walking tour here this is the dock this is where a lot of people come to when they get off the cruise ships you notice from some of the snow this is the end of winter just the early stages of early spring the ravens are running around looking for food so this is kind of what it looks like before the tourists start arriving
so we're going to walk here along the pier and I'm going to take you through the different areas of downtown Juneau
as you can see the ravens are ripping apart the bags gosh I hope they're not eating them they're really big they're usually not too aggressive though
people are hanging out have lunch here on the pier so here's what it looks like on this angle it's red dog saloon little condo slash apartments it's kind of the mountains that overlook Juneau
there's a little sign here kind of points the way we're going to be going in a small circle juno is not that big so it gives you a lot to you can see a lot in just a few minutes
let's see even with and dynamic here things are fairly normal
so we're just gonna walk here along the dock let's go over here
i think people might wonder that area across that you're seeing now that's called Douglas island there's a bridge that connects the two
see a lot of boats come into port here as you can see
juno is a historical it was a seafood city but it's kind of turned into a large tourist season city at this point
a lot of people come into this point get off the boat go down here if they're going internationally they got to go through a little there are customs down there

I call it D-Day (Decision day) too although it has nothing to do with the WWII. Feeling inspired, I spontaneously decided to revisit our D-Day route, a nostalgic journey commemorating our two decades in Singapore.
