general information
Langkawi is located only 30 km from the west coast of Malaysia and is separated by the Strait of Malacca, it is part of an archipelago of 104 islands, of which Langkawi is the largest. It shares a maritime border with Thailand. In translation, the name of the island sounds like - brown eagle.
The area of the island is only 320 square kilometers, the local population is about 80 thousand. The highest point of the island is Gunung Raya (880 m). This amazing and fabulous place at the intersection of trade sea routes has been the object of strife between Thailand and Malaysia for centuries, and both conquerors alternately burned rice fields. How to get there
