হাতিরঝিল বাংলাদেশের রাজধানী ঢাকার একটি এলাকা যা জনসাধারণের চলাচলের জন্য তৈরী করা হয়েছে। এ প্রকল্প এলাকাটি উদ্ধোধন ও জনসাধারণের জন্য উন্মুক্ত হয় ২০১৩ সালের ২ জানুয়ারি। এ প্রকল্প চালুর ফলে ঢাকার তেজগাঁও, গুলশান, বাড্ডা, রামপুরা, মৌচাক, ফার্মগেট, কারওয়ান বাজার ও মগবাজার এলাকার বাসিন্দাসহ এ পথ দিয়ে চলাচলকারী যাত্রীরা বিশেষ সুবিধা পাচ্ছেন। হাতিরঝিল প্রকল্পটি বাস্তবায়ন ও তদারকি করছে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর 'স্পেশাল ওয়ার্কস অরগানাইজেশন' (এসডব্লিউও)। এ প্রকল্পের অন্যতম মূল লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণ, জলাবদ্ধতা ও বন্যা প্রতিরোধ, ময়লা পানি নিষ্কাশন ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়ন, রাজধানীর যানজট নিরসন এবং শ্রীবৃদ্ধি করা।

হাতিরঝিল ও এর পার্শ্ববর্তী এলাকার মানচিত্র
ভাওয়ালের রাজার এস্টেটের হাতিরঝিলসহ তেজগাঁও এলাকায় অনেক ভূসম্পত্তি ছিল। এস্টেটের হাতির পাল এখানকার ঝিলে স্নান করতে বা পানি খেতে বিচরণ করত বলে কালের পরিক্রমায় এর নাম হাতিরঝিল হয়।
উন্নয়ন
হাতিরঝিল প্রকল্পটি এক হাজার ৯৭১ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে মোট ৩০২ একর জমির উপর প্রতিষ্ঠিত। এর মধ্যে জমি অধিগ্রহণে ব্যয় হয়েছে এক হাজার ৪৮ কোটি টাকা। অধিগ্রহণকৃত জমির মধ্যে রয়েছে রাজউকের ৪৬ শতাংশ, 'কোর্ট অব ওয়াক্স'-এর ৮১ একর, পাবলিক ল্যান্ড ১৪১ একর ও বিটিভির ১ একর। প্রকল্পটি ২০০৭ সালের অক্টোবরে একনেকে অনুমোদন দেয়া হয়। ৩ বছর মেয়াদের এ প্রকল্পটি প্রথমে ২০১০ সালের জুনের মধ্যে শেষ হওয়ার কথা থাকলেও এর কাজ শুরু হয় ২০০৮ সালের ডিসেম্বর মাসে। পরবর্তীতে প্রকল্পটি সংশোধন করে আরো দেড় বছর সময় ও বরাদ্দ বাড়ানো হয়। প্রকল্প ব্যয় ১ হাজার ৯৭১ কোটি ৩০ লাখ টাকার মধ্যে বাস্তবায়নকারী সংস্থা রাজউকের ১ হাজার ১১৩ কোটি ৭ লাখ, এলজিইডির ২৭৬ কোটি এবং ঢাকা ওয়াসার ৮৬ কোটি ৬৭ লাখ ৫০ হাজার টাকা রয়েছে।
ঢাকা মহানগরীর পূর্ব-পশ্চিমে সংযোগের লক্ষ্যে হাতিরঝিল প্রকল্পে ৮ দশমিক ৮০ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ এক্সপ্রেস সড়ক নির্মাণ, স্থানীয় জনগণের যোগাযোগ সহজ করার জন্য ৮ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ সার্ভিস রোড, ৪৭৭ দশমিক ২৫ মিটার দীর্ঘ চারটি সেতু নির্মাণ, পথচারী ও ভ্রমণকারীদের সুবিধার্থে যথাক্রমে ৮ দশমিক ৮০ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ ফুটপাত এবং ৯ দশমিক ৮০ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ হ্রদের পাশে হাঁটারপথ নির্মাণ, ২৬০ মিটার দীর্ঘ তিনটি ভায়াডাক্ট নির্মাণ এবং প্রকল্প এলাকা যানজটমুুক্ত রাখতে ৪০০ মিটার দৈর্ঘ্যের ওভারপাস, ইন্টারসেকশন ও রাউন্ডঅ্যাবাউট নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। প্রকল্পে ১০ দশমিক ৪৫ কোটি ঘনফুট বর্জ্য অপসারণ, ১০ দশমিক ৪০ কিমি মেইন ডাইভারশন স্যুয়ারেজ লাইন স্থাপন করে প্রকল্প এলাকার বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনাকে কার্যকর করবে।

Hatirjheel is an area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, which has been created for public movement. The area was inaugurated and opened to the public on January 2, 2013. As a result of its launch, Passengers are getting special benefits. The main objectives of this implementation were water conservation, waterlogging and flood prevention, development of sewerage system, reduction of traffic congestion in the capital. The project is being set up on a total of 302 acres of land at a cost of Tk 1,961 crore. Inside of which Of this, Tk 1,046 crore has been spent on land acquisition. Of this, 47 per cent is owned by RAJUK, 61 acres by Court of Wax, 141 acres by public land and 1 acre by BTV. Out of the project cost of Tk 1,981.30 crore, the implementing agency RAJUK has paid Tk 1,113.06 crore, LGED Tk 28 crore and Dhaka WASA Tk 7.85 crore.

এক হাজার ৯৬০ কোটি টাকার এ প্রকল্পের মূল লক্ষ্য বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণ, জলাবদ্ধতা ও বন্যা প্রতিরোধ, ময়লা পানি নিষ্কাশন ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়ন, রাজধানীর যানজট নিরসন এবং নগরীর সৌন্দর্যবৃদ্ধি করা। পরিবেশ ও নান্দনিকতার দিক থেকে হাতিরঝিল ঢাকায় এক নতুন দিগন্ত উন্মোচন করেছে। ঝিলের চারদিকে ওয়াকওয়ে নির্মাণ, ওভারপাসসহ ঝিলের দুপাশে পূর্ব-পশ্চিমে সড়ক নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। লেকের এপার থেকে ওপারে যাওয়ার জন্য দৃষ্টিনন্দন সেতু, নজরকাড়া বাহারি ফো য়ারা, চমৎকার শ্বেতশুভ্র সিঁড়ি নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। পালতোলা নৌকায় নৌবিহার করার সুবিধাও রয়েছে এখানে। যেখানে বছর কয়েক আগেও হাতিরঝিল ছিল পঁচা পানির আধার। কিন্তু বর্তমানে এটি ঝকঝকে পানি ধারণ করছে। পাম্পের মাধ্যমে পানি সরবরাহ করা হবে এই ঝিলে। ময়লা পানি নিষ্কাশনেরও ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। থাকবে ঝিল ঘেঁষা রাস্তার পাশে বৃক্ষরাজি আর ফুলের সমারোহ। এছাড়া বিনোদনের জন্য সাংস্কৃতিক কেন্দ্র, শিশুপার্ক, বিশ্বমানের থিয়েটার, শরীর চর্চা কেন্দ্র স্থাপন করা হবে। পর্যটকদের নামাজ আদায়ের জন্য থাকবে মসজিদ। ৩০২ দশমিক ৮৭২৩ একর ভূমির উপর ৪টি ব্রিজ, ৪টি ওভারপাস, ৩টি ভায়াডাক্টের স্থাপন করা হয়েছে। সন্ধ্যার পর হাতিরঝিল নানা রকম আলোকসজ্জার রঙ্গে নিজেকে রাঙ্গিয়ে তোলে অপরুপ সাঁজে। হাতিরঝিল নামকরনের ইতিহাসঃ ব্রিটিশ রাজার ধারাবাহিকতায় ভাওয়ালের রাজাদের পোষা হাতি রাখা হত পিলখানায়। সেই সময় গোসল করার জন্য এসব হাতি ঝিলে যাওয়ার জন্য ব্যবহার করতো এখনকার এলিফ্যান্ট রোড, হাতি রপুল এলাকা। হাতিদের আনাগোনার কারণেই এলাকার নামের সঙ্গে ‘হাতি’ শব্দটি যুক্ত হয়ে গেছে। আর হাতি গো সল করানোর কারনে ঝিলের নাম হয় হাতিরঝিল। ইতিহাসের পাতা থেকে জানা যায়, ঢাকার পিলখানা থেকে বেগুনবাড়ি এলাকার ঝিলে যাওয়ার জন্য হাতিরা যেসব সড়ক ব্যবহার করা হতো, পরবর্তী তে সেসব এলাকার সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয়েছে হাতি নামটি।
কিভাবে যাবেনঃ
ঢাকার যে কোন প্রান্ত থেকে বাসে কিম্বা সিএনজি করে হাতিরঝিল আসা যায়।
হাতিরঝিলে ঘুরে দেখার জন্যে আছে বাস সার্ভিস। আপাতত ২৯ আসনের চারটি মিনিবাস হাতিরঝিলের চারপাশের দশটি স্টপেজ থেকে যাত্রী তুলবে এবং নামিয়ে দেবে। টিকেট পাওয়া যাবে রামপুরা, মধুবাগ, এফডিসি মোড়, বৌবা জার, শুটিং ক্লাব ও মেরুল বাড্ডার ছয় কাউন্টারে। এক কাউন্টার থেকে আরেক কাউন্টারে সর্বনিম্ন ভাড়া ১০ টাকা। রামপুরা থেকে কাওরানবাজার গেলে ১৫ টাকা লাগবে। আর বাসে করে পুরো হাতিরঝিল ঘুরলে দিতে হবে ৩০ টাকা।

Hatirjheel is an area in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, that has been created for public movement. In this busy city of bricks and stones, Hatirjheel of the capital has become a beautiful recreation center to alleviate the fatigue of tedious civic life. Anyone can visit Hatirjheel by day or night.
The main objectives of this project worth Tk. Hatirjheel has opened a new horizon in Dhaka in terms of environment and aesthetics. Walkways have been constructed around the lake, overpasses and roads have been constructed on both sides of the lake. To cross the lake, beautiful bridges, spectacular fountains, and beautiful white staircases have been built. There are also facilities for sailing on sailing boats. Where even a few years ago Hatirjheel was a reservoir of rotten water. But now it is holding sparkling water. Water will be supplied to this lake through pump. There is also a system for drainage of dirty water. There will be trees and flowers on the side of the road beside the lake. In addition, cultural centers, children's parks, world-class theaters and exercise centers will be set up for recreation. There will be a mosque for tourists to perform their prayers. 4 bridges, 4 overpasses, 3 viaducts have been installed on 302.623 acres of land. After the evening, Hatirjheel paints itself with various colors of illumination. History of naming Hatirjheel: Following the British rule, pet elephants of Bhawal kings were kept in Pilkhana. At that time, these elephants used to go to the lake for bathing, now Elephant Road, Elephant Rapul area. The word 'elephant' has been added to the name of the area due to the anagona of elephants.
How to go:
Hatirjheel can be reached by bus or CNG from any part of Dhaka.
There is a bus service to visit Hatirjheel. For now, four 29-seater minibuses will pick up and drop off passengers at ten stops around Hatirjheel. Tickets will be available at six counters in Rampura, Madhubag, FDC Junction, Bauba Jar, Shooting Club and Merul Baddar. The minimum fare from one counter to another is 10 Taka. It will cost 15 Taka to go from Rampura to Kawranbazar. And if you go around Hatirjheel by bus, you have to pay 30 Taka.

Before 2009, It was a slum area that has been transformed into a recreation area as well as an alternate way to ease traffic congestion.
Legend has it that the elephants of Dhaka's Pilkhana used to take baths in these wetlands – hence the name Hatirjheel. Architect Iqbal Habib, who heads the consultant firm of the Hatirjheel-Begunbari development project, said that the Bhawal Raja used to keep his tamed elephants at Pilkhana. He said that the elephants were taken to the wetlands through the Elephant Road and Hatirpool.
Hatirjheel is located at the centre of the capital city, Dhaka. It has a latitude of 23.7496 and a longitude of 90.3968. In other words, the Hatirjheel has coordinates of WikiMiniAtlas23°44′58.47″N 90°23′48.35″E. The area stretches from Sonargaon Hotel in the south to all the way to Banasree in the north. The place is surrounded by Tejgaon, Gulshan, Badda, Rampura, Banasree, Niketon, and Maghbazar, and it made the transportation of the people living near these areas much easier.Building the entire site required 19.71 billion (19,710 million) taka and an area of 302 acres. From this, 10.48 billion (10,480 million) taka was spent in acquiring the site itself. 46% of the area belongs to RAJUK, which includes an area of 81 acres for a court of walks, 141 acres for public lands and 1 acre for BTV. The project was first permitted in October 2007, and was said to be completed within three years (by June 2010). However, the construction began in December 2008, which took a further half year for expanding it. The total funds for creating the project included the money of RAJUK (1,113.7 billion taka), LGED (2,760 million) and WASA (866.95 million).
It has an area of 311.79 acres while some 8.80 kilometer service road and some 8.80 kilometer expressway have been constructed under the project.The entire area of Hatirjheel is designed with about four main and four minor bridges (viaducts), several overpasses (flyovers), footbridges (overbridges), 8.80 kilometres of footpaths, 9.80 kilometers walkway, one children's park, and 13 viewing decks.There are sitting arrangements for pedestrians by the riverside. A lake flows through the heart of the project with a 16 km road surrounding it. During the dry season, the Hatirjheel lake can hold approximately 3.06 billion liters of water, and during the rainy season about 4.81 billion liters of water, making it the largest body of water inside the capital of Bangladesh.
The area was constructed under Bangladesh Army and the Special Works Organization. It is now a popular recreational spot for residents of Dhaka

হাতিরঝিল বাংলাদেশের রাজধানী ঢাকার একটি এলাকা যা জনসাধারণের চলাচলের জন্য তৈরী করা হয়েছে। এ প্রকল্প এলাকাটি উদ্ধোধন ও জনসাধারণের জন্য উন্মুক্ত হয় ২০১৩ সালের ২ জানুয়ারি। এ প্রকল্প চালুর ফলে ঢাকার তেজগাঁও, গুলশান, বাড্ডা, রামপুরা, মৌচাক, ফার্মগেট, কারওয়ান বাজার ও মগবাজার এলাকার বাসিন্দাসহ এ পথ দিয়ে চলাচলকারী যাত্রীরা বিশেষ সুবিধা পাচ্ছেন। হাতিরঝিল প্রকল্পটি বাস্তবায়ন ও তদারকি করছে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর 'স্পেশাল ওয়ার্কস অরগানাইজেশন' (এসডব্লিউও)। এ প্রকল্পের অন্যতম মূল লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণ, জলাবদ্ধতা ও বন্যা প্রতিরোধ, ময়লা পানি নিষ্কাশন ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়ন, রাজধানীর যানজট নিরসন এবং শ্রীবৃদ্ধি করা।
