বাংলাদেশ নদীমাতৃক দেশ। মাওয়া ফেরিঘাট টি আমাদের দেশে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ফেরিঘাট। প্রতিদিন অসংখ্য মানুষ নদী পারাপার হয় এই ঘাট দিয়ে। এই ঘাটতি আরেকটি কারনে বিখ্যাত, পদ্মার পাড়ে এই ঘাটে প্রচুর মানুষ আসে ইলিশ মাছ খাওয়ার জন্য। পদ্মার ইলিশ সারা পৃথিবীতেই বিখ্যাত। আমাদের দেশের জাতীয় মাছ ইলিশ, এই সুস্বাদু রুপালি মাছটি কে না খেতে ভালোবাসে। পদ্মা পাড়ের মাওয়া ফেরিঘাট ও পদ্মা সেতু এখন পর্যটকদের প্রধান আকর্ষনের যায়গা।
মাওয়া ঘাটে আমার যে বন্ধুরা নিজস্ব পরিবহনে যাবেন তাদের জন্য গুগল ম্যাপ তো আছে।

গণপরিবহনে গুলিস্তান থেকে বি আর টি সি বা ইলিশ পরিবহন করে চলে যেতে পারবেন মাওয়া ঘাটে। বাসের ভাড়া জনপ্রতি ১০০ টাকা।
মাওয়া ঘাটে অনেকগুলো খাবার হোটেল রয়েছে। আপনারা আস্ত ইলিশ দরদাম করে কিনে খেতে পারেন আবার পিস হিসেবেও তারা বিক্রি করে থাকে। আস্ত ইলিশ কেনার ক্ষেত্রে অবশ্যই দরদাম করে নেবে নেবেন, এক দোকানে দরদাম না পোষালে অন্য দোকানে চেষ্টা করে দেখতে পারেন। এই হোটেলগুলোতে ছোট বড় সব সাইজের ইলিশ পাওয়া যায়। সাইজ অনুযায়ী আনুমানিক ৫০০ থেকে 1৫০০ টাকার ভিতরে আপনি ইলিশ কিনতে পারবেন।

রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে মাত্র ৪২ কিলোমিটার দূরে পদ্মা নদীর তীরবর্তী মাওয়া ফেরীঘাটের ইলিশের সুনাম বেশ। সেখানকার বহু খাবারের হোটেলে ইলিশই প্রধান আকর্ষণ। ইলিশের স্বাদ নিতে আমিও গিয়েছিলাম মাওয়াঘাটে। সেই অভিজ্ঞতাই তুলে ধরেছি এই ভিডিওতে।

The fish is popular food amongst the people of South Asia and in the Middle East, but especially with Bengalis and Odias. Bengali fish curry is a popular dish made with mustard oil or seed. The Bengalis popularly call this dish shorshe ilish. It is also popular in India, especially in West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, Assam, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. It is also exported globally.
In North America (where ilish is not always readily available) other shad fish are sometimes used as an ilish substitute, especially in Bengali cuisine. This typically occurs near the East coast of North America, where fresh shad fish having similar taste can be found.
In Bangladesh, fish are caught in the Meghna-Jamuna delta,[6] which flows into the Bay of Bengal and Meghna (lower Brahmaputra), and Jamuna rivers.
In India, the Ganges Delta, Rupnarayan (which has the Kolaghater Ilish), Hooghly, Mahanadi,[7]Narmada and Godavari rivers and the Chilika Lake are famous for his fish yields.
In Pakistan, most hilsa fish are caught in the Indus River Delta in Sindh. They are also caught in the sea, but some consider the marine stage of the fish as not so tasty. The fish has very sharp and tough bones, making it problematic to eat for some.
Ilish is an oily fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids.[8] Recent experiments have shown its beneficial effects in decreasing cholesterol level in rats[9] and insulin level.[10]
In Bengal and Odisha, ilish can be smoked, fried, steamed or baked in young plantain leaves, prepared with mustard seed paste, curd, eggplant, different condiments like jira (cumin) and so on. It is said that people can cook ilish in more than 50 ways. Ilish roe is also popular as a side dish. Ilish can be cooked in very little oil since the fish itself is very oily.

If you are fond of Bangladesh’s national fish and desirous of grabbing the fresh ilish fries with pieces of brinjal fried with mastured oil and a bowl of hot plain rice, you have to travel just 35 km west of Dhaka. The mighty Padma is waiting to embrace you with a delicious Hilsha treat. The journey is very smooth & cheerful by the newly made Dhaka-Mawa Expressway. You shall certainly enjoy the lustrous green on way to Mawa from Dhaka, aboard a public bus service like Ilish Paribahan, BRTC, Swadhin Paribahan, Prochesta Paribahan etc. A private car or jeep will take you there within 30-35 minutes from jatrabari or Babubazar point.
Travel to Mawa Ferry Ghat is very charming. This is something different in your daily metro life you can do to bring some refreshments. It can be just an awesome destination for recreation & refreshment. It's a very good place to spend with friends and family. Hilsha fish is the main attraction in this place. Quite a number of people visit Mawa ferry ghat (terminal) only to relish freshly fried hilsa.
Mawa Ferry ghat is the most famous place like to hilsha fish at any time. It is stands on the bank of the Padma. The natural environment & the real taste of fresh hilsha fish are just awesome here. Several small restaurants are available here to serve the real taste of fresh hilsha fish of Padma. You may select your fish and ask them to deep fry. Please do bargain price before you place your order. Try to go to the closest restaurant of ferry ghat as outer ones are not as good as them.
Travellers on their way to Shimulia and Kawrakandi also enjoy the mouthwatering taste of fried hilsa. This place is open almost 24 hours everyday. People come here from all over just for the freshly fried hilsa. Some love the hilsa eggs. Here you can taste the real taste of Hilsha fish with lots of Stuffed.
Hilsa, both fried and ready-to-fry, are put on display in front of the restaurants. The customers can choose whichever piece of the fish they want. Each piece of fish costs Tk. 60 to Tk. 90. One can also enjoy a full piece of hilsa.
The Mawa ferry ghat went into operation around 35 years ago when mainly trawlers crossed the river. Then it started seeing movement of launches and ferries.
Simultaneously, businesses including sales of food items, began mushrooming around the the terminal area. At one stage, traders set up restaurants and fried hilsa became a part and parcel of the business given the popularity of the fish among travellers and food-lovers go there from distant places.

ঢাকার গুলিস্তান ও যাত্রাবাড়ী থেকে বিআরটিসি কিংবা ইলিশ পরিবহণের বাসে চড়ে ৭০ টাকা ভাড়ায় সরাসরি মাওয়া ঘাটে যেতে পারবেন। এছাড়া মিরপুর ১০, ফার্মগেট, শাহবাগ থেকে স্বাধীন পরিবহণ মাওয়া ফেরি ঘাটের পথে যাত্রা করে।

Finding Ourselves In The ‘Ilish Paradise’: Day Trip To Mawa From Dhaka, Bangladesh:
‘Ilish’ (Hilsa) isn’t just a fish, but it’s an emotion for Bongs living across the globe.
When Sir Radcliff drew the line of partition between the two Bengals, he also divided the rivers between the two sides – with India having Ganga & Padma flowing through Bangladesh. I guess it was ‘ilish’ from the Padma that kept on ringing a familiar bell in the hearts of the people living on both sides of the border. Truth to be told, I have grown up seeing ‘ilish’ as an object of sentiment – and we Bengalis uphold it to the world as the finest among the finest of what Bengali cuisine has to offer.
When I told my friends that I’m going to Bangladesh, everyone was like – You’ll have the ilish from Padma River there? I knew it was something I can’t afford to miss – as they say, the fish procured from the Padma is more delicious than those in Ganga. ‘Maybe it’s hype’, I thought in my mind, until I was in Mawa, by the banks of the river – and witnessed that the hunt for hilsa is a real deal out here. Hilsa here is considered similar to gold, and the fish caught at Mawa is exported across the world.
Considering the infamous traffic of Dhaka, we planned to leave early in the morning (around 7’O clock) to sway through the crowded streets and effectively hit the Dhaka – Mawa Expressway, which is the first national expressway in Bangladesh. It’s a beautiful drive of approximately 50 KM and takes about 2 hours to reach Mawa Ghat – one of the biggest ferry terminals in the country.
From various types of prawns to various sizes of hilsa, as well as any other fish — you name it and they have it. Seeing hilsas of 800/900gms being sold at BDT 600.
Nearly 20 restaurants, with names like ‘Gharoa’, ‘Nirala’, ‘Ilish Ghar’, and ‘Jol er Rani’, are buzzing with customers.
