Stef Biemans travels the ridge of the Andes and wonders how South Americans are doing in Potosí, the highest city in the world, and once one of its richest, but also one where life can be short.
In the mining town of Potosí, capitalism was born, as it were. Here, the first coin was struck using silver from the mine of the ‘rich mountain’, which is still in use. So much silver has been extracted from this imposing mountain, you could use it to build a bridge to Spain. But you could also build a bridge out of the bones of dead miners and slaves. On average, miners only make it to the age of 45.

Salar de Uyuni, the Salt Flats of Bolivia for 4-days
In this video, we will take you with us on our 4-day tour through Salar de Uyuni, the Bolivian salt flats.
Are you wondering if you can get altitude sickness in Salar de Uyuni?
Bad news, we got altitude sickness on our 2nd night in the Bolivian salt flats. We now need to deal with this emergency and get to a lower elevation.
We had planned on a 4-day tour through the Atacama Desert. Unfortunately, Meghan got severe altitude sickness and we had to cut our trip short.
Our first thought was it was food poisoning as the food we had been eating on our tour wasn't very good. However, as time passed and we analyzed her type of sickness it became clear she had altitude sickness.
We organized an early exit and canceled our trip a day early. We managed to get a taxi to pick us up at the Chile border and take us to San Pedro. We were planning on going to the hospital, however, we then decided to wait a few hours at a lower altitude and see how her body adapted. When we arrived at our hotel, we ordered a large bottle of orange juice and some water and then Meghan fell asleep and didn't wake up for 16 hours. The next day she felt much better, still sick but much better and the day after that she was back to her normal self.
The elevation in San Pedro, Chile is half of the high mountain ranges we're in Bolivia. We now have a few days to spend in San Pedro, before we make our way to Santiago, Chile.

Neste emocionante décimo episódio, deixamos San Pedro de Atacama para entrar na Bolívia pelo Paso Hito Cajón.
Atravessaremos a Reserva Eduardo Avaroa e as fantásticas atrações da Ruta de las Lagunas, como Laguna Blanca, Laguna Verde, Termas de Polques, Gêiseres Sol de la Mañana, Laguna Colorada, Arból de Piedra e Laguna Hedionda.
Nosso objetivo do dia era percorrer 270 km pelo deserto para chegar ao Los Flamencos Eco Hotel.
Pelo dificílimo caminho 4x4, passamos pelas paisagens mais belas que já vimos na vida. Parecia um mundo totalmente diferente. Confira!
