[JL5] Japan Airlines First Class New York to Tokyo (John F.Kennedy to Haneda)

I was traveling in New York early in Feb 2019.
Last of my journey, I was on JL5 First class seat.
This video shows how it was. Thanks for watching.

NEW Japan Airlines First Class JAL A350-1000 Tokyo to New York JFK - MAGICAL

*TURN ON THE SUBTITLES* I was lucky enough to try Japan Airlines' brand new First Class suites on their new A350-1000 on the way back from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK. It's was a magical trip from start to finish. While I loved the business class on the way there JAL's new First Class sets the bar very high. Their service was incredible, the crew was one of the best I've ever had on a plane, and the food was delicious. The new suites are, in my opinion, the best first class seats out there. I liked them better than the Emirates' Game Change 777 First Class seats.

Japan Airlines First Class 777 Tokyo Narita to New York JFK

Japan Airlines's first class is one of my favorite first class products. As with all Japanese airlines the service is refined and elegant from the lounge to the end of the flight. The crew on this flight were extremely passenger oriented and proactive. They anticipated our needs and did frequent checks in the cabin to see if we needed any refills or food. Despite the long flight, their attitudes remained cheerful and perky which I really find amazing since it is so easy to get exhausted on long haul flights. I really appreciated one particular FA who spent a lot of time chatting with me and getting to know me. She offered Japan Airlines branded gifts to take home which was a nice personal touch.
There are some changes I noticed on this flight since my prior first class trip 2 years ago. There is no longer a cloth Loewe amenity kit. The amenity kit is now by Porsche Design and the products has been trimmed in quantity and quality (Hainan Airlines offers a better stocked kit). The pajamas were a limited edition also by Porsche Design available from March - June 2017.

From the moment you walk into the lounge you are welcomed by a staff member who personally go over the details of your trip and help inform you of any gate changes. You are then welcomed into the lounge by another staff member who follows to your seat and brings you a hot towel and a drink. The lounge in the main terminal has a sushi bar, which has a limited selection of freshly made sushi. The food buffet was plentiful and had lots of very tasty dishes, however I did find the food in the ANA suite lounges to more interesting and delicious.
I personally enjoy JAL's seat much more than ANA's boxy Suites. It is easier to view out of the window and if you are traveling with someone, the aisle seats are also more conducive to conversation since you are literally boxed in in ANA's seats.
The food onboard is definitely an experience. Everything was beautifully presented. The flavors were very interesting. The caviar course was not accompanied by the usual sides. Rather the rice wafers and the egg yolk cream formed a unique savory flavor which when mixed with the salty caviar was truly a unique and tasty combination. The desserts were especially good including the lychee yogurt sauce and the condensed milk ice cream. It wasn't as overpoweringly sweet as expected but fruity, refreshing, and creamy.
Overall, this was a perfect first class flight with excellent service from the ground to the air and delicious food at every minute. I especially appreciate the effort the crew put into their service. I honestly can't wait to fly with Japan Airlines again.

Check out my recent flight on Japan Airlines in First class from JFK to NRT.
I wanted to revisit their first class product ever since I first flew them back in 2018! I had a great flight, the food and crew were superb as always. I don't currently recommend flying right now until the Covid-19 pandemic is under control though. I hope this video can help you get back into the spirit of traveling even if we can't just yet!

ANA First Class Suite (Star Wars 777) Tokyo Narita to New York JFK NH104

The lounge was one of the smaller First Class lounges but the food and sake were delicious. The desserts especially were flavorful. As soon as I entered the lounge, I was greeted by two attendants. While they checked me in, I noticed they pressed a button, and soon another attendant showed up to bring me to my seat. Simply seamless service.
ANA flies its BB-8 Star Wars 777 on NH104 to New York and back everyday and I was welcomed on to the flight with a friendly crew and the Star Wars soundtrack.
There is a silver colored Samsonite amenity kit in addition to the 4 colors shown on their website. The kit was definitely one of the many highlights of the flight. It was filled with The Ginza products and definitely a very unique souvenir. The seat itself is very private but it severely limits views of the window. The flight had a full first class but the crew can only be described as 5 stars. They made sure the bathrooms were open before I changed and came by through the aisles often to check up on passengers. The Japanese chief purser also spoke English and Mandarin and used Mandarin whenever she had some difficulty with English. Everything was professional, courteous, attentive.
The food were delicious as well, although not as delicious as the memorable meal I had on Japan Airlines' First Class. The FA pushed me to try the special Connoisseur menu but I wanted to see how the Japanese cuisine compared between the two airlines. I will try it next time. The plum wine and the sake were excellent drinks/alternatives to champagne if you wanted to try something more local. I also had the matcha which was very nicely presented. I realized after the flight that the caviar service must be ordered separately... Not sure why they would do that since there is no reason to hide such a service when the airline has already paid money for the caviar.
Sleeping wise, the padding was actually small for seat and the pillows were small, but it was all very comfortable and I slept 7 hours. In all, ANA is truly an amazing airline.

ANA Business Class 777 Tokyo Narita to New York JFK

Another excellent flight with All Nippon Airways. ANA''s catering has always been outstanding. Food are all plated beautifully with an extensive selection of sake, shochu, Japanese tea to choose from. I didn't interact much with the crew on this flight as I had on my flight to Narita but the service remained pleasant professional and proactive. On this flight, I did get a true window seat and the privacy feels more like akin to a suite. You simply can't go wrong with choosing ANA or JAL.

Japan Airlines NEW A350-1000 Premium Economy ✈ New York to Tokyo (2024)

Flying for the first time on an Airbus A350-1000, and excited to try JAL's newly launched Premium Economy service. This is the 3rd (3/6) leg of my crazy round the world trip to Tokyo.

I paid for this flight using 50,000 AAdvantage miles + $5 USD in taxes (one-way). Overall, the service and experience were incredible. Big shoutout to the crew on this flight, which was warm and caring. JAL is probably one of the few airlines in which I really felt a difference between Premium Economy and Main Cabin.

I arrived at New York JFK from Buenos Aires and was in transit for 6 hours waiting for JAL's flight.

JAL 日本航空005便 ニューヨーク→羽田 ファーストクラス搭乗記 - JAPAN AIRLINES JL005 from JFK to Tokyo First Class Review

JAPAN AIRLINES BUSINESS CLASS BOEING 777-300ER | HND-JFK

#japanairlines #jal #businessclass #jfk #hnd #japan #すごい

Overall Impression:

Japan Airlines' Sky Suite Business Class product has been out for a few years now, but I've never had the chance to try it until now. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the seat was. There are 49 JAL Sky Suites (a.k.a. B.E. Aerospace's Apex Suite) business class seats on the Boeing 777-300ER, which are configured in a 2-3-2 layout. I was initially worried that the seat might feel cramped because of the dense layout, but my worries went away as soon as I sat in the seat. The shoulder and legroom were more than adequate for me. The seat reclines to a full flat bed. In addition to the supplied full size pillow and duvet, the crew also places an airweave mattress on the bed upon request, which made the bed super comfortable. The window seats are notably more private than the aisle seats, but the aisle seats have an extra side storage compartment which the window seats lack. The food were all catered from Haneda which means that they were excellent quality and the crew did a good job in the presentation. Service was efficient and polite, but the crew felt a bit disconnected and cold to non-Japanese passengers. My only biggest gripe with this product is the lack of overhead air nozzles considering JAL keeps their cabin a bit too warm for my liking, the air vents would have made a big difference. Please join me and let's fly with JAL's business class.

What I liked:

JAL First Class Lounge at Haneda Airport - The JAL First Class Lounge in HND is one of my favorite lounges in the Oneworld Alliance. We have access to the lounge via our Oneworld Emerald status. As you can see from the video, there's plenty of food and beverage options including made to order hot food. There's also plenty of seating, including a smoking room for those who smoke.

The Seat - The seats offers plenty of shoulder and legroom space and reclines into a full flat bed. The window seats takes the cake for privacy and aisle wins for storage space.

The food - Onboard catering was excellent, especially if you like Japanese food. I ordered the Japanese lunch set and it was amazing and very nicely presented. You can also order from the anytime dining menu at any given time during the flight.

The onboard service - The flight attendants delivered excellent and polished service during the flight. Though the service was not as warm as other Asian carriers, I still think the crew was well intentioned and eager to please. I was proactively offered drink refills and the crew always responded to my please and thank yous. :)

What I didn't like:

The IFE - This plane uses JAL's Magic V Entertainment system. Sadly, it seems you can only navigate the IFE content using the touchscreen remote, which I'm not real fond of. There were a good amount of new movies, TV and Audio content, and even some games.

The cabin temperature and no air nozzles - JAL is notorious for having a very warm cabin which is not everyone's cup of tea. I personally like a cooler cabin, which more conducive to sleep. Sadly, this flight was a bit too warm for me, and air nozzles would have helped me cool down.

It was OK...I guess:

The onboard bar - During the flight, the crew sets up a walk-up bar near the galley for some self-service snacks and beverages. Sadly the bar was very basic with just a few selections or snacks and wines, unlike other carrier's very extensive snack selections.

Flying FIRST CLASS w/ Japan Airlines (and our layover in Tokyo)

What's it like flying first class with Japan Airlines? Where can I get really good Kobe beef in Tokyo?

Travel by SEA Episode 13 - Sleepless in Tokyo

With Japan Airlines first class, we were able to fly comfortably and eat incredibly well. Such a great way to get to Tokyo!

We love Tokyo and any chance we get to check out the city is taken full advantage of. In our less than 24 hour layover, we managed to taste some of the best Kobe and Wagyu beef we've ever had. We also got to check out the storied Tsukiji Fish Market Tuna auctions before it was permanently moved to a different location.

(FRITS #53) Japan Airlines Economy Class Flight Experience - JL16 Tokyo-Haneda to Los Angeles

If my previous flight was about learning the moral values of service, friendliness, attentiveness, authenticity, language, kindness, totality, and perseverance, I added 3 more values on this flight: care, health, and responsibility.

The journey continues, through a very speedy transit process at Haneda Airport - in fact, my travel party members, myself included, were the only ones using the transit facility by the time I disembarked. After a long 7-hour transit and some sleep under the cold Haneda terminal, my plane arrived from San Fransisco, a few minutes late. The domino effect was felt on my flight to LAX, because Japan Airlines sometimes had the tendency to predictably rotate their 777s in Haneda; they would usually assign their 777s on a New York, Paris/London, Dallas, San Fransisco, and then Los Angeles pattern repetitively, meaning that if the previous flights are delayed, the next will be delayed, too.

I had the privilege to board first, and I was welcomed nicely by the crews. I then soon walked past the JAL SKY SUITE business class seats, the premium economy cabin, and finally, to my seat, 26K, at the front economy section of the cabin. The senior flight attendant started her announcements with an apology for the delay, then we were soon on our way for a 9.5-hour flight to Los Angeles. I sat down in the very comfortable, user-friendly, and rich-in-features seat, beneath the very glamorous mood lighting system, clean, comfortable, and spotless cabin despite its age.

Takeoff was obviously late, but the crews kept us updated. I was served three meals on this flight: 2 heavy and 1 light. I started up with the rice crackers before proceeding with the chicken thigh pasta served with miso soup, salad, fermented eggplants, Haagen-Dazs ice cream, and tofu for dinner. After I took my needed sleep, I woke up 2 hours before arrival to get ready for breakfast, which was provided by a third-party catering company affiliated with Japan Airlines. It was a mixed rice dish served with panna cotta. All of those aforementioned meals looked and tasted fancy.

The IFE was very rich in contents, user-friendly, and responsive, although some of the TVs clearly needed thermal control because they were overheating. One of my travel party's TV eventually failed possibly due to this, and the flight attendants replaced it with a free Wi-Fi voucher to be used straight away or at a later JAL flight.

The landing was 25 minutes late, and the crews could not stop apologizing even though it wasn't overly fatal to the point that the airline needed to compensate. I disembarked last along with my other travel party members, and I left after some pictures with the cabin crews. The walk from the gate to my next terminal for my next flight only took 45 minutes. The fast bag delivery helped because all of our bags were assigned priority status due to some of my travel party members needing wheelchair assistance. There were no miscommunications with any of the crews regarding my filming activity this time, although I received contradicting information from the ground staff members at Los Angeles upon arrival (one said I can't, while one encouraged me to).

Overall, I learned a lot from Japan Airlines, and I enjoyed this flight.
