Earthquake Tram Mount Split Screen 60 FPS (HD POV) Universal Studios Hollywood

Experience Earthquake a simulator attraction on the Studio Tour which takes place on the San Francisco Subway station with pyrotechnics, shaking, sparks, moving set pieces, and flooding at Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, California, USA.

This was shot as a split screen with the cams mounted to the Studio Tour Trams and then synced up with the left and right videos to give you the best experience of this simulator attraction.

Due to these cameras not having the best low light the right camera angle is darker. I have done my best to try to brighten it up.

Universal Studios tour tram ride - Earthquake

As seen for the last 40 years

Earthquake: The Big One on the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood (May 2023)

The Studio Tour tram at Universal Studios Hollywood enters Stage 50, known as the world's only split-level soundstage. As the tram enters, the atmosphere is quiet as the film crew is on a lunch break. Suddenly, the ground begins to tremble...

The Earthquake attraction is designed to simulate a powerful earthquake, measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale, inside a soundstage made to resemble a San Francisco subway station. Within this hot set—a movie set that remains untouched for future filming—the attraction offers various thrilling elements. These include a gimbal that shakes the tram, a collapsing gasoline truck that bursts through the roof, fire and spark effects created by Tesla coils, a derailing subway train, and a massive 60,000-gallon water flood. After each experience, the attraction resets itself in 15 seconds to prepare for the next group of guests.

Interestingly, natural earthquakes have closed the attraction twice in history. The first closure occurred on October 17, 1989, following the Loma Prieta earthquake in Northern California, seven months after the attraction opened. The second closure occurred on June 28, 1992, when a real earthquake occurred, resulting in a 24-hour closure for safety checks.

It's noteworthy that the attraction never featured live performers except for video marketing. Earthquake: The Big One was constructed in 1988, replacing the Tower of London set that previously occupied the location. Stage 50 was specially built for this attraction and is not an active soundstage used for regular productions on the Universal Studios lot. However, the attraction has appeared in a few films and television shows.

The Great Los Angeles Earthquake (1990) Short sequence shows the attraction's flooding side during the aftershock earthquake.
Beverly Hills Cop III (1993) Alien Attack ride in the Wonder World theme park.
Seaquest DSV (1993)
Bones (2009) [Earthquake scene – Season 5, Episode 15]
