Myanmar's unknown Mergui Archipelago and its Moken people
Myanmar, also known as Burma, has only relatively recently opened its borders to tourists. Therefore, most of the country's beautiful landscapes are still unknown. One of the most precious areas is the Mergui Archipelago with its prestigious beaches and remote islands. It is home to the Moken, a people of fishermen, hunters and gatherers.
In this first-ever documentary about Mergui, both the wonders and the problems of the archipelago are revealed. Breathtaking underwater footage and aerial views show the rich and diverse coral reefs with animals such as whale sharks, clown fish and octopus. However, the film also highlights the unfortunately huge problem of overfishing and destruction of the marine environment in the region. Ecotourism is developing rapidly in the Mergui Archipelago, but poses challenges for the Moken people.

The Moken are an Austronesian people on the Mergui Archipelago. Hunter-gatherers in harmony with their environment, they are now in danger as they are down to about two thousand individuals. The film is particularly insightful and fascinating as it explores these people and their way of life, their traditions, their nomadic marine life by boat and numerous other adjustments to the water ecosystem.

Despite our attempt at keeping our Greenland Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting clips.
Hunting:
The people of Greenland hunt seals, whales, and dolphins. Other than fish, these marine mammals are an important food source. Every part of the animal is used. Still, among some, this type of hunting will spark outrage. However, understand that very little grows in Greenland, as the summer lasts only around 2 months. Most fruits and vegetables, as well as all other types of food, need to be imported, causing high transport costs and emissions and resulting in astronomical prices. No citizen of Europe or North America has any right to judge the lifestyle of these people who rely on locally available, sustainable food sources.
Do we prefer whales swimming wild and free in the ocean? 100%. However, in our daily lives, most of us have the luxury of buying everything we could think of in a nearby supermarket. Greenlanders do not have that option.
Greenlanders know where their food comes from. Most of us in the West do not. It is easy to judge people and their lifestyles even if we know little about them. And if after all of that, you still believe Greenlanders should stop hunting seals, you are placing ideology above reason.

This trip was supported by Visit Greenland. The tourism board paid for our flights from Iceland to Kulusuk as well as our helicopter flight from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq. Moreover, they supported us by funding some of the activities. Additionally, we didn’t have to pay for the trips with Tasiilaq Tours and Nunatak Adventures. All accommodations and other activities were self-funded.

Past Access DYK: Epic Fail of the Sinking of the Vasa
The sinking of the Vasa in 1628 was a tragic and expensive failure by the Swede navy.
On her maiden test run in August of that year, this top-heavy flagship took on water after opening the canon gunports and sank within minutes.
Found nearly 330 years later, the Vasa was brought to the surface and underwent decades of conservation to be placed in its own state-of-the-art museum in Stockholm.
This epic fail turned out to be a historic gift for millions of visitors to this amazing museum.
