Walking in VIENNA / Austria ????????- City Centre & Churches - 4K 60fps (UHD)

Vienna (Wien), the capital and largest city of Austria is a popular tourist destination of the country. The imperial architecture of the city centre is seen on our walk here and we are ready to see a bit more of the city.

We start this Vienna tour (June 2019) inside the St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom). This cathedral is one of the main sights of Vienna in the very centre of the city. Next we visit the St. Peter's Catholic Church and walk a bit South to the the Hofburg which is another of the main sights.

As we stroll around the streets we also get into less busy side streets on our way out of the centre. We see the Vienna State Opera, head to the Naschmarkt and finally to yet another church - the Karlskirche.

There in the baroque cathedral is an interesting art installation as we end this evening tour of Vienna.

4K City Walks: Vienna Austria - Historic Old City Center - Virtual Walk Treadmill City Guide & Tour

@TravelingMel takes you on a winding tour of the City Center in 4K City Walks: Vienna Austria - Historic Old City Center - Virtual Walk Treadmill City Guide & Tour as she winds here way through the centrum starting at the magnificent St Stephens Cathedral in Stephensplatz, along Grabenstrasse past the Column of Pest (Column of The Trinity), through some narrow medieval streets, to the Hofburg palace and the ancient roman walls there, into the Ferstel Passage, past the University of Vienna and the Rathaus. After passing the parliament building we end up in Volksgarten where two accordionists in horsehead masks play for tango dancers. Yes, that's right. Vienna is such a beautiful city. The architecture is similar to Budapest which makes sense but much cleaner and with more trees. It was a sunny winter day in the capital of Austria which sits on the Danube river. It's a fine city with many famous museums and hotels and restaurants. There are many activities for families and others to take advantage of in the largest city in Austria. The wind comes down from the Alps which makes things much colder. It's easy to get around Vienna in the metro or ride shares.

Wikipedia:
Vienna is the national capital, largest city, and one of nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's most populous city, with about 1.9 million inhabitants (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, nearly one third of the country's population), and its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 6th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was the largest German-speaking city in the world, and before the splitting of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in World War I, the city had 2 million inhabitants. Today, it is the second-largest German-speaking city after Berlin. Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations, OPEC, and the OSCE. The city is located in the eastern part of Austria and is close to the borders of Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. These regions work together in a European Centrope border region. Along with nearby Bratislava, Vienna forms a metropolitan region with 3 million inhabitants. In 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In July 2017 it was moved to the list of World Heritage in Danger.

Additionally to being known as the City of Music due to its musical legacy, Vienna is also said to be the City of Dreams, because of it being home to the world's first psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. Vienna's ancestral roots lie in early Celtic and Roman settlements that transformed into a Medieval and Baroque city. It is well known for having played a pivotal role as a leading European music centre, from the age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century. The historic centre of Vienna is rich in architectural ensembles, including Baroque palaces and gardens, and the late-19th-century Ringstraße lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.

Vienna is known for its high quality of life. In a 2005 study of 127 world cities, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked the city first (in a tie with Vancouver and San Francisco) for the world's most liveable cities. Between 2011 and 2015, Vienna was ranked second, behind Melbourne. In 2018, it replaced Melbourne as the number one spot. and continued as the first in 2019. For ten consecutive years (2009–2019), the human-resource-consulting firm Mercer ranked Vienna first in its annual Quality of Living survey of hundreds of cities around the world. Monocle's 2015 Quality of Life Survey ranked Vienna second on a list of the top 25 cities in the world to make a base within.

The UN-Habitat classified Vienna as the most prosperous city in the world in 2012/2013. The city was ranked 1st globally for its culture of innovation in 2007 and 2008, and sixth globally (out of 256 cities) in the 2014 Innovation Cities Index, which analyzed 162 indicators in covering three areas: culture, infrastructure, and markets.

The Hofburg is the former principal imperial palace of the Habsburg dynasty rulers and today serves as the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria. It is located in the center of Vienna and was built in the 13th century and expanded several times afterwards. It also served as the imperial winter residence, as Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence.

Since 1279 the Hofburg area has been the documented seat of government. The Hofburg has been expanded over the centuries to include various residences (with the Amalienburg and the Albertina), the imperial chapel (Hofkapelle or Burgkapelle), the imperial library (Hofbibliothek), the treasury (Schatzkammer), the Burgtheater, the Spanish Riding School (Hofreitschule), the imperial mews (Stallburg and Hofstallungen).

The palace faces the Heldenplatz (Heroes Square) ordered under the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I, as part of what was planned to become the Kaiserforum but which was never completed.

Numerous architects have executed work at the Hofburg as it expanded, notably the Italian architect-engineer Filiberto Luchese, Lodovico Burnacini and Martino and Domenico Carlone, the Baroque architects Lukas von Hildebrandt and Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach, Johann Fischer von Erlach, and the architects of the Neue Burg built between 1881 and 1913.

Maria-Theresien-Platz is a large public square in Vienna, Austria, that joins the Ringstraße with the Museumsquartier, a museum of modern arts located in the former Imperial Stables. Facing each other from the sides of the square are two near identical buildings, the Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum) and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum). The buildings are near identical, except for the statuary on their façades. The Naturhistorisches' façade has statues depicting personifications of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The Kunsthistorisches façade features famous European artists, such as the Dutch Bruegel, among others.

The Naturhistorisches Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the square adjoining them were built in 1889. At the center of the square is a large statue depicting Empress Maria Theresa, namesake of the square. The Modern Art Museum in the former Imperial Stables shows contemporary works that some may consider controversial. The three museums are popular destinations for tourists.
