If you want to know about Regional And Low Population Growth Metropolitan Areas in Australia
subclass 189 skilled independent is a permanent visa and you do not need any sponsor or nominator. However, subclass 489 is not a permanent visa and you are granted up to 4 years to stay in regional and low population growth areas in Australia. This is called the path to permanent residence as after staying for 2 years in this visa you become eligible to apply under the subclass 887 for your permanent residence. When you get nomination from a state or territory for your subclass 489 , you get 10 additional points. This helps you to qualify at EOIs level in your skillselect level. You do need a positive smell Assessment in your occupation for both subclass 189 and subclass 489 visas. You must be up to age 45 to qualify. Got both subclass 189 and 489 , you must be at competent level of English to qualify.

ABOUT THIS VISA
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent visa that allows you and your immediate family to move to Australia to work and liven. You will need to have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list. This visa has 2 different streams. You can apply under the POINTS TEST STREAM or the NEW ZEALAND STREAM.
SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA (SUBCLASS 189)
To be eligible for the Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) you will need to:
Be invited to apply after submitting an expression of interest
Have the relevant skills assessment valid at the time of invitation.
Be under the age of 45 when invited to apply. If you are 45 or over after invited, you can still apply.
Have 65 points or higher. The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is a points tested visa.
You must be able to demonstrate that you have COMPETENT ENGLISH.
Meet the skills requirement of having an occupation from the relevant SKILLS OCCUPATION LIST for the Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189).
Meet necessary health requirements.
Meet character requirements
Sign the Australian values statement.
Not had previous visas cancelled or refused.
IF you apply under the NEW ZEALAND STREAM, you do NOT require the points test but rather there is a separate test as outlined below.

The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) currently costs $4045AUD for the main applicant and additional fees for each family member.
WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent visa that lets you stay in Australia indefinitely. You can both work and study in Australia travel to and from Australia as many times as you like for up to 5 years.

POINTS TEST FOR THE SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA (SUBCLASS 189)
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a points tested visa. REMEMBER: The Points test does not apply if you are applying under the NEW ZEALAND STREAM.
NEW ZEALAND STREAM
Under the New Zealand Stream, for the Skilled Indpendent Visa, you do not need to satisfy the points requirement. A different set of requirements is as follows below:
1. You must currently hold a New Zealand Special Category Subclass 444 visa.
2. You must satisfy the income requirement for each of the 4 financial years. Income requirements are specified in the relevant LEGISLATIVE INSTRUMENT.
3. You must have lived in Australia for 5 years.
4. You still need to pass all other requirements outlined above such as the health and character tests but not the points test.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA SUBCLASS 189
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189). This visa needs to be done right first time and to avoid unnecessary delay, use a registered migration agent Mark Pelley - Principal Migration Agent for Visas To Australia. The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) requires substantial documentation to support claims made in the application. This process can be lengthy and confusing.
