Namib Desert, Namibia. 8K 360 aerial video.

Don't forget that this is 360 video: you can change the angle of view.

Namib is the oldest desert on earth. It has existed unchanged for 80 million years, in fact, since the time of the dinosaurs. Namibia is a country of contrasts — ocean and desert, traditions and civilization, wealth and poverty. Namibia is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. In the south of the country is the Fish River - the largest canyon in Africa, and in the north of the country — the largest meteorite ever found. Here you can see one of the most desolate landscapes on earth, as well as the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Yellowish sands in the northern part and rich reds in the south create a feeling of an unearthly landscape — it's just another planet!

Nowadays you need extraordinary computer power for watching 8K 360° videos. If you have troubles with watching such videos, choose 4K or HD quality in the settings of your YouTube player. We hope that YouTube will find a solution for optimization this videoformat to make it watchable for common users.

Also here is the answer for a frequently asked question about true resolution of an 8K 360° video. Unlike standard videos, in a 360° video you can see only a part of original image (approximately 30 degrees out of 360). As a result, the real resolution of the part you can see isn't bigger than 1.3K.

Weird Animals Of The Namib Desert!

The Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world. It is also one of the driest places on the planet. This national park in Namibia seems dead, but a striking number of animals live here. These include the Namaqua Chameleon (or Desert Chameleon), the Shovel-Snouted Lizard (or Namib Sand-Diver), Peringuey's Viper (or Sidewinding Viper), and the colourful Namib Sand Gecko.

You can visit this world famous nature reserve in western Namibia. With a guide you can go on an excursion to look for wildlife. His knowledge is phenomenal, he knows exactly where the animals live. I did and was amazed at how many different animals live there. And how they have adapted to the unique living conditions.

GIRAFFE's PRIVATE SHOW - by the Water Well in Namib Desert, Namibia (Slow is the life in desert)

LIVE: Namib Desert Wildlife Live Stream
AfarTV has received permission from Gondwana Collection to stream their live feed.

This camera is located near the Namib Desert Lodge the Namib Desert Lodge is part of the Gondwana Collection of accommodations. Sustainability in Namibia is part of their philosophy and they strongly promote nature conservation and a social commitment to the Namibian people.

The waterhole was built in 2006. A solar-powered pump fills a reservoir from a borehole to supply the waterhole via a float valve under the central hump. Its maximum depth is about 6 inches.

A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.

NAMIBIAN WEST COAST IS WHERE NAMIB DESERT MEETS ATLANTIC OCEAN IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

West Coast of Namibia and Skeleton Coast Park is where ancient Namib Desert meets cold waters of Atlantic Ocean's Benguela Current.

#NamibDesert #SkeletonCoast #Namibia

Skeleton Coast Namibia:

The coastal desert of Namibia is located along Africa's Atlantic coast towards the south-west. The high sand dunes of Namib Desert and the point where the desert meets the sea are the key attractions of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is where ancient Namib Desert sand ocean meets Atlantic Ocean. Holiday town Swakopmund is the best base to explore Namibian Atlantic coast.

Namib Desert is one of the driest destinations on the planet. Its Mars-like landscape features nothing except high sand dunes, barren mountains and gravel plains extending to about 81000 sq km across three nations.
Namib Desert is believed to be as old as 55 million years; thus, it is the oldest desert in the world.
Summer temperature at this desert often reaches 45 degree Celsius and night-time temperature can be as low as below freezing.

Apparently, Namib Desert is not suitable for human inhabitation. Nonetheless, a number of living beings such as ostriches, antelopes, rodents and birds have managed to adapt to this desert.
Interestingly, the geomorphic phenomenon created in Namib Desert, called fairy circles, has intrigued many researchers and scientists across the globe. Also called fairy rings, these are barren patches of sand encircled by grass of a single variety. Many researchers believe that the fairy circles could be the result of alien activity in this region, though there is no evidence that proves it.
Namib gets its water supply from fog, which means the reptiles and mammals living in the desert area have developed a survival mechanism to live with less water consumption.

From the Skeleton Coast in the north to the Orange River in the south, Namibia has nearly a thousand miles of coastline. For much of that distance, the windblown dunes of the Namib Desert reach right to the pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean, leaving a stark yet beautiful landscape. Shaped by the winds and largely unpopulated, Namibia’s coastal area is home to only a handful of towns and villages. Shipwrecks lie in place for decades, slowly reclaimed by the sea or the desert.

The Namib is a coastal desert in southern Africa. The name Namib is of Khoekhoegowab origin and means vast place. According to the broadest definition, the Namib stretches for more than 2,000 kilometres along the Atlantic coasts of Angola, Namibia and South Africa, extending southward from the Carunjamba River in Angola, through Namibia and to the Olifants River in Western Cape, South Africa. The Namib's northernmost portion, which extends 450 kilometres from the Angola-Namibia border, is known as Moçâmedes Desert, while its southern portion approaches the neighboring Kalahari Desert. From the Atlantic coast eastward, the Namib gradually ascends in elevation, reaching up to 200 kilometres inland to the foot of the Great Escarpment. Annual precipitation ranges from 2 millimetres in the most arid regions to 200 millimetres at the escarpment, making the Namib the only true desert in southern Africa. Having endured arid or semi-arid conditions for roughly 55–80 million years, the Namib may be the oldest desert in the world and contains some of the world's driest regions, with only western South America's Atacama Desert to challenge it for age and aridity benchmarks.

A sunset or early morning drive through the red dunes exploring the sand masterpiece is breath-taking. Volunteering in the Namib Desert

At our carnivore conservation programme in Namibia, wildlife volunteers can choose to live at one of two desert research sites.

The Desert Retreat site is a 33,000 hectare habitat in the Namib Desert - a photographer’s paradise, with endless red dunes and spectacular night skies. The area has been transformed into a wildlife reserve, with no internal fences, and is a haven for a variety of desert-adapted wildlife - the ideal environment to perform research and observations of wild carnivores.

The project site and neighbouring farm comprise an area of 352 square km of stunning desert scenery; with a mix of red sand dunes, vast grass plains and ancient camel thorn trees. The site borders the Namib Naukluft Park and is an important link for huge scale wildlife conservation.

The main flagship species in the area are brown and spotted hyena, cheetah, leopard and a range of other desert-adapted species. It is text-book Namibia, with picture-perfect scenery and spectacular sunsets.

The project's main focus is environmental mapping, carnivore monitoring, tracking, game counts and looking after the five rescued cheetah.
