The MOST INCREDIBLE REMOTE ISLAND You've Never Heard Of

We've sailed to an unknown island paradise with good food, clear water, and insane hikes. Niue is the most amazing destination we never knew existed.
Behind the Scenes:

Without your support, these vids wouldn't be possible…THANK YOU from the bottom of our salty hearts. ????

???? AWESOME tunes for vids:
- Artists: Giants and Pilgrims (intro), Russo, Rex Banner, Red City Hero, Russo and Weinberg

What a spectacular atoll! We were blown away after the first hike and our first lunch. The crystal clear water is unbelievable. The terrain is unforgivingly unique. And I hope the cave formations came out in the video. Smiles were glued to our faces here in Niue and I'm so sad our time was cut short so abruptly.

Never fear, if you liked this part of Niue just wait until next time! We take on a crazy hike filled with spiders and blind jumps into hidden pools. Then we top it off with a SCUBA dive with our new friends Expedition Drenched. It's one helluva sendoff that leaves us craving even more of this island paradise.

Living #OffTheGrid on a Sailboat for us is all about creating a more sustainable way of life. The more of the world we see, the more we want to preserve it. But, living off the grid doesn’t have to mean sacrificing modern comforts. We believe self-sustainability and comfort can coexist.

From RV to sailboat we’ve lived off the grid for ten years and have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water and managing waste. You can learn more over on our website:

⭐ After you hit that play button we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. We read every comment and do our best to respond to as many as we can. We create these vids for you, and we always welcome quality feedback.

Shared with LOVE ???? from all of us here aboard s/v Curiosity,

Keeping The Niue Culture Alive! Haircutting & Earpiercing Galue!

This is the haircutting and earpiercing ceremony of Asher, Nora and Indie. Loved ones of Vanessa Marsh and BJ Rex of Alofi, Niue Island.

The Niue haircutting ceremony feast is a traditional celebration of Niue to mark the coming of age of young men. Traditionally, the ceremony involves the cutting of the young men's hair, which is seen as a symbolic representation of their transition from childhood to adulthood. Their hair hasn't been cut since birth until this event.

During the ceremony, the young men's hair is cut by designated family members and friends. For the girls, it is piercing of their ears.
After the cutting of the hair or piercing of the ears for the girls, an uncooked feast is distributed out to invited guests to celebrate the occasion.

The family prepares for this event way in advance by raising pigs and planting taro plantations. Extended family, friends and people in the community and the Island also contributes to the feast or the galue it is called in Niue.

The size of the galue you get is in direct correlation to the amount of money you donate to the family on the day of the event. Donations range anywhere from $20 to thousands of dollars. The top donation that got the first galue on this occassion is $10K.
How this normally works is like in a reciprocal way, so when people you invited to your event, when they do their function, they will invite you. So here, you return to them whatever amount of donation that they bring to yours, plus a little more usually. It would be considered very rude and wrong if you don't.

Congratulations to Vanessa and BJ Rex and their families and friends for all the hard work that goes into this event!

Niue Island Tourism Promotional

We visited this remote island in the South Pacific in 2012 on the (then) once weekly fligth from Auckland. Niue is not your typical South Pacific Island with snowy white sand and swaying palm trees! But what they lack in terms of beaches the reason why you should come here, is the people of the island! Incredible hospitable and we felt that the entire island met us at the airport on arrival. Immediately invited to chair in local traditions (as the weekly sundowner on the beach bar) to local festivities. And on top of the people iot is the incredible diving that are offered on Niue. This is a very special place in the South Pacific scheme of things! The video was given to us by the Niue Tourism Office.

We have to leave NOW! 48 hours in Niue (S1 Episode 5)

Bad weather is on it's way and it's time to GET OUTTA HERE! After sailing 1500 miles from New Zealand to Niue, we finally make landfall only to find out that there's huge westerly swells coming in that will force us to head west to Tonga. We make the most of the time we have and have the awesome opportunity to meet up with Nikki and Jason Wynn From Gone With The Wynn's. They're scuba diving lovers just like us, so we go on a little mission together and do some amazing cave diving and get up close and personal with the endemic katuali or flat tail sea snake.

Expedition drenched is a U.S. based marine educational non profit 501-c made possible by our donors and patrons. For more information on our project visit:

Small Tent Setup and Takedown at the Alofi Wharf, Niue Island.

If you have seen our previous videos you would have a fair idea now that we put up tents for functions and events around Niue as our main form of income.

We have done this over a decade and a half now and it still blows my mind about the beautiful venues and or locations we have setup tents at.

Early morning at the wharf is just beautiful as you can see on this clip.
Different times of the day also reflects the different look it has on the same location.
Alofi wharf will always have fond memories for a lot of locals here. From fishermen to the pastime swimmers.

Reef Walk Foraging and Collecting Seafood Sustainably!

Foraging for seafood at this part of the reef in our village has been practiced from generation to generation.
Nature has been able to enable it's sustainability by the track to get there. You can only get to this reef at certain parts of the year when it's mostly calm and the tide is low and long enough for you to get there and back safely.
Therefore, you can't access it anytime of the year if you wish to! In addition, due to our low population, not many people do this seafood foraging anymore on the reefs like how it used to be.
Also, people do not rely mainly on the sea and reef for sustenance, like with the past generations as we have variety of food imported from overseas and most locals have jobs and can afford to buy from the stores.
Therefore, our natural reef resources are sustainably managed naturally in most ways.

Island Life on Niue.m4v

You've always asked yourself, I'd like to travel to Niue
but what's it like there?...

Well here it is, a quick slideshow of images taken around the island,
it's walks, it's people, it's marine life and it's beauty. The music is
one of the traditional Niue'an songs which the children at
Alofi Primary School sing every Friday morning at their
assembly. Many tourists who fly home on the Friday
afternoon come to the school to see and interact with
the kids and listen to their voice... Lucky me didn't realize it
but I sat next to the school principal... Her name is Itsy.

Niue is one of those rare places which is still very much
the way it was a century ago apart from the fact there are
a few cars and electricity cables!! With a population of no
more than 1500 on an island which is about 60km around...

Niue attracts less than 100 tourists every week, Niue is a
place where it will seem as though you're the only people
sharing such a majestic place with the islanders.

If you ever want to go to a place where it's NOT over run
by tourism, then go to Niue.

Enjoy!
