Ryokan is a traditional Japanese style inn, that you can enjoy unique Japanese experience. All the experience can be interesting and memorable, but it can be a difficulty for Internatinoal travelers. So today, I'd like to show you my solo stay at Japanese style ryokans in Kyoto, and show you what you can expect and what you might want to know, before you make decision for your hotels in Japan.
I booked very early and the price was about $250 for the first night, and
$150 for the 2nd night, both with two meals. The condition depens on the plan,
so please make sure what is included when you make reservations.

Staying at a luxury JAPANESE ONSEN HOTEL in Kawaba - incl. private onsen!!!
One thing you must try when in Japan is a traditional Japanese Onsen Bath! An authentic Japanese experience and one of my favorite things here in Japan.
However, I know it can be a little intimidating, the thought of being naked with a lot of strangers taking a bath. So many people shy away from going to an onsen or a sento. But there is another option, many people are not aware of, a private onsen hotel! Where you have a private onsen in your hotel room. Yes, that is a traditional onsen bathtub just for yourself!
So let me show you what this could look like. As I recently took a day trip from Tokyo to Kawaba in Gunma and spent a night at Kinshuusanso, a luxury onsen hotel with my very own private onsen. Let me show you what a traditional ryokan looks like, including the room (bigger than my Tokyo apartment, check it out here: and of course, there was also food. So watch until the end to see THE BREAKFAST.

Tip: The best way to visit this particular Onsen Hotel Kinshuusanso is by car, however, they do pick up from the close stations including Numata Station and Jomokogen, which is on the Shinkansen that continues to Niigata. It is a free shuttle bus, but you need to reserve it in advance...

Hakone Kowakien Tenyu was absolutely gorgeous when we stayed there! We chose to upgrade our room to one with a private onsen. It cost like $600 a night but oh my goodness it was worth it. We took a stroll around Hakone lake and up to the shrine and we even ate the famous hakone black egg! They say if you eat those black eggs you will live longer.
Japan’s Private Hot Spring Rentals: Indoor, Outdoor and Room Service!
In Takasaki, Gunma, there is a hot spring that has a series of kashikiriburo or reservable private baths. These rooms come in a variety of sizes, but you get a room, table, tv, indoor and outdoor hot springs, and a touch screen to order food. It's like grabbing a fancy hotel room, without the price tag.
This is a great place for friends to hang out, families to enjoy, or couples who are tired of having to go to separate hot springs by gender. Its a wonderful place to unwind at your pace, never needing to worry about other people.
I don't show it in this video (since it would be bad to do) but there is a much bigger and nicer hot spring for all to use inside the facility. Getting the day pass for this room gives you access to that part as well. So go check it out!

A Hakone ryokan experience was on my bucket list for a while. I knew that if I traveled this far to get a real ryokan experience, that I could not skimp out and so I went for a full luxury stay at one of the best ryokans in Hakone, Hakone Retreat före. Our villa includes our own private onsen (aka your own private hot springs) and included meals, which is a must when you want the full ryokan experience.
Take a first-person tour and review of this ryokan in Hakone with epic views of Mt. Hakone and fully immersed in the mountains.
Sengokuhara, with easy access to Hakone landmarks such as art museums and Susuki Grass Fields, is the home of Hakone Retreat före. Its simple modern architecture and is inspired by Swedish retreats as well so you'll get a fun blend of Northern European and Japanese influences. The ryokan and private onsen are one with the natural beauty of the surrounding forest and mountains.

Japan Travel - Private Onsen Hot Spring Bath & Ryokan in Izu
On our travels to Japan, we stayed at a ryokan or traditional Japanese inn where we had access to private onsen (hot spring bath), including one in our room. Onsens are usually public and donʻt allow cameras, but since we had private access weʻll take you inside a few of them at the Isaribi Ryokan in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture. We were also treated like royalty with omakase dinners an breakfasts during our two day stay.

Bath culture is huge in Japan. Whether for cleaning or just relaxing, Japan is filled with bath houses, hot springs, and traditional ryokans that provide a relaxing experience for anyone who enjoys soaking away the stress and anxiety of life.
I was lucky enough to spend a weekend at a luxury, traditional hot spring hotel in Nikko, Japan. This was something I'd always wanted to do, and I can safely say it was in my top 5 favorite travel experiences of all time.
In this video, I tour this HUGE room I stayed at, which included a spacious living/bed area, massage chair, and a PRIVATE OUTDOOR HOT SPRING BATH ♨️

I can't remember the exact cost of this room, but it was probably around $300 per night. That included access to the hotel's public hot spring baths, as well as dinner (which was nothing short of delicious.)
