Did you know that what $1 USD can buy in one country is never the exact same as in another?

While this may seem like an obvious statement to you, it's a huge concept in economics called purchasing power parity. Ever since I studied economics in college, I've been fascinated by comparing different countries' currencies and this is actually what inspired me to create my $10 series (which I've done in 37 countries now!).

In today's video, join me as I show you what $1 can get you in 10 countries worldwide: USA, Bangladesh, Uganda, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Syria, Slovenia, Pakistan, France and the Dominican Republic.

Spending $100 in ISTANBUL in 24 Hours (Crazy Cheap!)

GUYS, ISTANBUL IS AMAZING!! Have you ever been? If not, this video will convince you to go.

**Watch until the end to see how I almost didn't make it legally into Istanbul**

A few days ago, I spent the wildest 24 hours in Istanbul and budgeted myself with $100 to see how much fun I could have in the city.

This was my 4th visit to Istanbul, and every time I go back, I love it more and more. It might be the most electric and vibrant city in the world.

This is the 5th sequel to my “$100 in 24 Hours” series — but I think it’s the best one because Istanbul is MUCH cheaper than the previous few cities (Hong Kong and Barcelona)... The affordability enabled me to go ALL OUT on a $100 budget — kebabs, kumpir, coffee, baklava, tea, shisha, Efes beer and TONS MORE!

Lastly, the fact that I got into Istanbul, Turkey is a MIRACLE ... Have you heard about the Turkey/USA mutual visa ban?! Just 3 hours before my plane arrived in Istanbul (literally), all U.S citizens were banned from visiting Turkey indefinitely (the Turkish government mimicked the U.S.'s ban last week which prohibited Turkish citizens from entering the USA). I read this news while sitting on the runway in Tel Aviv, and I was so nervous that I was gonna get detained, deported and/or questioned by the Turkish immigration, but I made it in safely!!! I think I was the last American to get a visa on arrival. I hope this stupid visa ban goes away, and both U.S. and Turkish citizens are able to visit each other's country again. I hate politics.

HELLO FROM PANAMA - my 191st country! That means I have only 6 left until I can say that I have visited every country in the world :D

Join me in my 36th episode of my $10 series to see how many things I can get in Panama City's vibrant district called Casco Viejo. To be honest, this city is A LOT more expensive than I imagined -- think New York prices -- so it was a bit of a challenge to find cheap things to buy.

But nonetheless, I had a blast making this video and I can't wait to tell you more stories about Panamanian food and culture over the next 4 days.

Mauritania- The hidden gem of Africa

Discover MAURITANIA: Where FAT Is BEAUTIFUL | 10 Interesting Facts You DO NOT KNOW about Mauritania

At midnight on November 28, 1960, under a tent in Nouakchott, to which the capital was recently moved, the chosen president announces the independence of Mauritania from French colonialism in the presence of foreign press delegations and a number of French and African personalities. Since then, Mauritania is considered a link between the Arab and African worlds.

The word “Mauritania” was not used to refer to the geographical area currently known as “Mauritania.” As for the original name, it was “الشنقيط بالد/Bilad alshanqit” (In English: The land of alshanqit) and the inhabitants were called “الشناقطة /alshanaqita”, but France named the country “Mauritania” when it colonized it at the beginning of the last century.
I forgot to tell you why the words are in Arabic because the official language of the country is Arabic

The Mauritanian constitution stipulates the existence of four national languages, the first of which is Arabic (the official language of the country), along with the “Pularian” language, the “Millennium” language, and the “Sononic” language (African languages), but there is a fifth language that is not provided for in the constitution, which is the “Zanak” language (the Berber language), and this language is almost disappearing from the country.

The Parc National du Banc D’arguin, a UNESCO world heritage site. It is one of the largest bird sanctuaries and very popular amongst bird lovers all across the world. You can spot many migratory birds in the reserve. You can go birdwatching there. The Park comprises sand-dunes, coastal swamps, small islands, and shallow coastal waters. The contrast between the harsh desert

environment and the biodiversity of the marine zone has resulted in a land- and seascape of outstanding natural significance. A wide variety of migrating birds spends the winter there. Several species of sea turtle and dolphin, used by the fishermen to attract shoals of fish, can also be found.
9- “The Richat Structure”, an eye staring at you from space! It is a huge eye in the Mauritanian desert which is visible from space, and it ranks as one of the most incredible geological marvels of our world. Just imagine looking down on Earth from space and an eye is staring back at you. It is known that the diameter of this eye is around 40 km and it looks like a ‘bull’s eye’.

The exact reason for its creation is still unknown as while competing theories concerning its origins exist, the debate still rages among some scientists. Nature seems reluctant to yield its mysteries to mankind. Some evidence indicates that this astonishing Eye of the Sahara represents the remnants of a geologic dome that formed approximately 100 million years ago.

“Bay of Nouadhibou”, “The Graveyard of ships” The place where there are rusting hulks in every direction, and ships that were cheaper to illegally abandon in this harbor than to correctly dismantle.

The city of Nouadhibou is the second-largest city in Mauritania and serves as the country's commercial center. It is famous for being the location of one of the largest ship graveyards in the world. Hundreds of rusting ships can be seen all around, in the water, and on beaches.
Various historical records cite that the port city became a vessel graveyard during the late 20th century. However, the idea of using the peninsula as a ship graveyard predates back to the days of the
country’s French colonization during the 20s and peaked to substantial heights during the 80s.

In the past, there were several currencies circulating inside Mauritania. The Ouguiya is the only Arabic word among all the monetary conventions in Mauritania. All of the other terms are of European origin, so this authentic Arabic word was chosen as a name for the Mauritanian national currency.

You will learn in Mauritania to give more value and attention to the number five. Mauritania is one of only two countries in the world to not use a decimal currency! The other is Madagascar. The Ouguiya
is the currency of Mauritania. Each ouguiya constitutes five Khoums.
6- As a Mauritanian kid, we can expect now that you should now have a rooster’s farm dependent on the number of teeth you've replaced so far.
In Mauritania, when a child loses a tooth, their parents tell them to wrap up their tooth in a small piece of cloth and throw it as hard as they can onto the roof of their house. If they get up very early the next morning, they will find a rooster on the roof, and they can keep it. If they don't wake up early enough, they won't find the rooster.

OMG GUYS JAKARTA IS SO CHEAP! Have you ever been to Jakarta, Indonesia?

I'm bringing back my $10 series for a 19th episode -- this time in Indonesia's vibrant capital of Jakarta.

This is my very first time in Jakarta and I have been pleasantly surprised by how cheap the prices are. Not to mention, the street food is fantastic and the overall ambiance on the streets of Jakarta is way better than I thought.

It's too bad that Jakarta gets a bad reputation because this city is pretty cool. If the traffic wasn't so bad, I could probably live here!

What else do you think I could have got with my $10 in Jakarta? Please share your thought below :)

Eating on the Floor with NO FORKS!! (Mauritania)

THE FOOD IN MAURITANIA IS SO GOOD!

I was lucky enough to be invited into a local home for a traditional lunch today. Little did I know they dine while sitting on the floor and eat with their hands (no spoons, forks or knives). I cannot decide which I enjoyed more -- the taste of the food or the entire experience in itself. Let's just say both!

They dressed me in a boubou - a long, white, loose-fitting traditional garment that is typically worn every day by men. All I can say is that life is great out here in the Sahara desert!

Music: Epidemic Sound

P.S. Do you want me to do more food videos? To be honest, I prefer cultural/people videos over food, but if this gets good feedback then I will sprinkle these in more often!
