RAMEN BOMB The Backpackers Soul Food
Thru hikers all eventually enjoy a special trail culinary delight called the Ramen Bomb. Although the exact history would probably be hard to find, the story of this meal can easily be figured out. I can just imagine hungry hikers sitting around on a trail somewhere, hopefully with a fire, and they are trying to figure out what to eat. They have all become aware that they need a ton of calories everyday, they need to keep whatever they have lightweight, and probably most of all cheap. One hiker is making Top Ramen, a favorite already, another has a packet of instant mash potatoes, another favorite, and mentions why not put this in as well. Both of these food items are super common and eaten everyday, then a last hiker has a foil pack of spam and says why not just put this in also it all goes in the stomach eventually. Thus the Ramen Bomb was made.
With the infinite variety of Ramen flavors and Instant Potato flavors, adding any kind of protein just increases the result. Let your imagination run wild with this fun dinner. I bet you could come up with all kinds of combinations.

Several weeks ago we made a video going through some of the cheap camping and backpacking foods that we eat:
There were several comments and suggestions on other people's cheap backpacking recipes, so naturally we tried them out - and forced our wives to eat them.
