We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Rome was called the “Eternal City” by the ancient Romans because they believed that no matter what happened in the rest of the world, the city of Rome would always remain standing. Exploring the city center by foot surrounded by glorious monuments and colossal remains takes you back in time to the “glory that was Rome”.

When exploring the Colosseum, visitors will easily imagine how the gladiators fought for their life in the arena, cheered by the crowd. In the Circus Maximus, travelers will picture the chariots crashing into each other in order to be first in the race, and in the Roman Forum visualize what the Roman public life was like. The event at the Colosseum were seriously brutal, though – during certain games held by the emperors around 10,000 animals were killed in a single day. The first games ever to be held were in 80 A.D, under Emperor Titus (the son of Vespasian), and they ran for 100 days straight. Games continued to be held for centuries to come – gladiatorial games until the fifth century and animal hunts until the 6th century.

Vatican City Which is in the center of Rome, it is the smallest state in Europe it is an independent city state located in the heart of Rome, ruled by the Pope (Bishop of Rome). It is the center of authority over the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican Apostolic Library and the collections of the Vatican Museums are of the highest historical, scientific and cultural importance. In 1984, the Vatican was added by UNESCO to the List of World Heritage Sites; it is the only one to consist of an entire state.

Fontana di Trevi, in Rome that is considered a late Baroque masterpiece and is arguably the best known of the city’s numerous fountains.
The fountain is located in Rome’s Trevi district. The Trevi Fountain took some 30 years to complete. The immense fountain stands some 85 feet high and is approximately 160 feet wide

The Imperial fora (Fori Imperiali in Italian) are a series of monumental fora constructed in Rome over a period of one and a half centuries, between 46 BC and 113 AD. The fora were the center of the Roman Republic and of the Roman Empire

The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument is a large national monument built between 1885 and 1935 to honour Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy

The Piazza del Campidoglio (Capitol Square) is in the highest of the seven hill points of Rome, the Capitoline Hill. Located between the Roman Forum and the Campus Martius, the Capitoline Hill is part of the origin of the Roman city, its ruins buried under several layers of medieval and Renaissance architecture being. It was the seat of the Senate, government base of ancient Rome, and site of numerous religious shrines.

Walking from Vatican City to Trevi Fontain, Rome - Italy 4K Travel Channel

The Vatican City is the center of the Roman Catholic world and home of the Pope. The visible sign is the St. Peter's Basilica, dedicated to the Apostle Peter, who is presumably buried here. The baroque church impress by its dimensions and the huge dome. St. Peter's Basilica is one of the largest churches in the world. The dome is the world's tallest dome, made of brick. Every day, about 20,000 people go to St. Peter's Basilica.
During this visit, we didn't go inside, because the queue was endless. Nevertheless, we have some pictures of the interior, which were taken in 1980.
The angel castle was built as a mausoleum for the Roman emperor Hadrian. Another 6 emperors were then also buried here. The design resembles the mausoleum of the emperor Augustus which we will see later. The style dates back to the Etruscan designs.
Later, the angel castle was rebuilt as a citadel and integrated into the city wall. After that, it served as a base for the Goth king Totila and as living space and fortress for some popes. Before it found its current use as a museum, it served as a prison. Pope Nicholas II. connected the apostolic palace with the angel castle in the Vatican by a 800 m long underground escape route.
The Court of Cassation is the highest court of appeal in Italy. We pass its seat in the Palazzo di Giustizia while we are walk along the Tiber.
We walk further along the Tiber River and reach the modern museum with the altar of Augustan Peace. It was donated to Augustus by the senate and excavated on behalf of Mussolini. Today, it is exhibited in the newly-built and controversial discussed Museo dell 'Ara Pacis, built by the architectural firm of Richard Meier & Partners.
On the opposite side there is the church of Saint Rocco and next to it the Mausoleum of Augustus. It recalls in its design to the Castel Sant'Angelo. It is not open at the moment. A protective building or a restoration and a remake are discussed intensely.
Via the Via del Corso and Via Vittoria we arrive at the Spanish Square and the Spanish Steps.

Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius, meaning the Bridge of Hadrian, is a Roman bridge in Rome, Italy, completed in 134 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian, to span the Tiber, from the city center to his newly constructed mausoleum, now the towering Castel Sant'Angelo. The bridge is faced with travertine marble and spans the Tiber with five arches, three of which are Roman; it was approached by means of ramp from the river. The bridge is now solely pedestrian, and provides a photogenic vista of the Castel Sant'Angelo. It links the rioni of Ponte (which was named after the bridge itself), and Borgo, to whom the bridge administratively belongs.

The name Vatican was already in use in the time of the Roman Republic for a marshy area on the west bank of the Tiber across from the city of Rome. Under the Roman Empire, many villas were constructed there, after Agrippina the Elder drained the area and laid out her gardens in the early 1st century AD. In AD 40, her son, Emperor Caligula built in her gardens a circus for charioteers (AD 40) that was later completed by Nero, the Circus Gaii et Neronis, usually called, simply, the Circus of Nero.

Even before the arrival of Christianity, it is supposed that this originally uninhabited part of Rome (the ager vaticanus) had long been considered sacred, or at least not available for habitation.[citation needed] A shrine dedicated to the Phrygian goddess Cybele and her consort Attis remained active long after the Constantinian Basilica of St. Peter was built nearby.

The Altare della Patria English: Altar of the Fatherland ), also known as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II (National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II) or Il Vittoriano, is a monument built in honor of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy, located in Rome, Italy. It occupies a site between the Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline Hill.

The Vittoriano features stairways, Corinthian columns, fountains, an equestrian sculpture of Victor Emmanuel and two statues of the goddess Victoria riding on quadrigas. The structure is 135 m (443 ft) wide and 70 m (230 ft) high. If the quadrigae and winged victories are included, the height reaches 81 m (266 ft). It has a total area of 17,000 square metres.

The base of the structure houses the museum of Italian Unification. In 2007, a panoramic lift was added to the structure, allowing visitors to ride up to the roof for 360-degree views of Rome.

The Temple of Hadrian is a temple to the deified Hadrian on the Campus Martius in Rome, Italy, built by his adoptive son and successor Antoninus Pius in 145 and now incorporated into a later building in the Piazza di Pietra (Piazza of Stone – derived from use of the temple's stones to build the piazza). It was once erroneously known as the Temple of Neptune.

Alo Giovannoli's 1615 drawing of the temple
One wall of the cella survives, together with eleven of the 15-metre-high Corinthian columns from the external colonnade, on a 4 m high peperino base. The fixing holes for its original marble covering can still be seen. This facade, along with the architrave (reconstructed after antiquity), was incorporated into a 17th-century papal palace by Carlo Fontana, now occupied by the Borsa bank. The building was octastyle and had 15 columns on each long side (four have been lost from the surviving side).

The Mausoleum of Hadrian, usually known as Castel Sant'Angels English: Castle of the Holy Angel), is a towering cylindrical building in Parco Adriano, Rome, Italy. It was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. The Castle was once the tallest building in Rome.

The tomb of the Roman emperor Hadrian, also called Hadrian's mole, was erected on the right bank of the Tiber, between 134 and 139 AD. Originally the mausoleum was a decorated cylinder, with a garden top and golden quadriga. Hadrian's ashes were placed here a year after his death in Baiae in 138, together with those of his wife Sabina, and his first adopted son, Lucius Aelius, who also died in 138. Following this, the remains of succeeding emperors were also placed here, the last recorded deposition being Caracalla in 217.

Rome Walking Tour - Italy 4K Travel Channel

A Rome walking tour is a great way to discover the city. Dario Andreucci, from Mind the Guide, invited us to take a video of his guided Rome Walking Tour.
Together with two couples from Canada, we meet at the Piazza Navona in front of the magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers. Dario has studied Art History and proved himself as an extremely competent guide. We immediately noticed his love for the city of Rome. Besides explaining the great historical contexts, he could answer all questions in detail.
From Piazza Navona we head towards the Pantheon, passing the Palazzo Madama, the seat of the Italian Senate. The building is named after Margaret of Austria who lived here. She was the illegitimate daughter of Charles V and later Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands, .
One street further, we pass the Palazzo Giustiniani, the seat of the chairman of the senate. In addition, it houses the offices of the senators for life; The palace is connected by an underground corridor with the Palazzo Madama.
The Pantheon was built approx 120 AD and served as a sanctuary for all the gods of Rome. In 609 AD it was converted to a Catholic church.
Even today, the Pantheon exerts a tremendous fascination. It is one of the best preserved Roman buildings and shows us in reality how Roman palaces and temples were equipment. Especially famous is the dome. It is the largest dome of antiquity and held the record for 1700 years.
The dome has an inside diameter of 43 m and is still the largest unreinforced solid concrete dome in the world.
Before we enter the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, we marvel the obelisk and the elephant on the Piazza della Minerva. The elephant was created by Ercole Ferrata after the design of Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
The church is the only extant original Gothic church building in Rome. It was the scene of a series of inquisition trials. The trial of Galileo Galilei was carried out here as well. Dario explained us in detail the significance of the graves in the church for the decedents.

Rome, Regola e Mercato di Campo de Fiori - Italy 4K Travel Channel

Rome Regola is traditionally an artisan district and lies on the left bank of the Tiber between Ponte Garibaldi and Ponte Mazzini.
We come from Trastevere, enter the district over the Ponte Sisto and follow the Via Pettinari.
Past the church of the Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini. She was once a pilgrim home.
At the end of the street we discover the church Santa Barbara alla Regola, in Rome commonly called Santa Barbara dei Librai. The church dates from the late 17th century and is guild church of the booksellers.
We turn right into Via dei Giubbonari and reach San Carlo ai Catinari, a church from the 18th century.
We turn around and follow the Via dei Giubbonari up to the Campo de' Fiori .
At the Campo de 'Fiori (english: Field of Flowers) is daily, except Sundays, a very popular market place. Besides flowers, mainly fresh food is offered here. The hustle and bustle takes place under the Monument of the philosopher Giordano Bruno, who was burned here because of Freemasonry. Moreover, here the Reformer Giovanni Mollio and his pupil Tisserano were burned.
We notice the people providing themselves with fresh water from one of the numerous fountains. The drinking water from these fountains is safe to drink.
Due to its numerous restaurants and pubs, the Campo dè Fiori is as well a popular meeting place in the evening.
From here we reach the Corso Vittorio Emanuelle II and take a bus back to the hotel.

The Roman Forum (Latin: Forum Romanum; Italian: Foro Romano) is a rectangular forum (plaza) surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. Citizens of the ancient city referred to this space, originally a marketplace, as the Forum Magnum, or simply the Forum.

It was for centuries the center of Roman public life: the site of triumphal processions and elections; the venue for public speeches, criminal trials, and gladiatorial matches; and the nucleus of commercial affairs. Here statues and monuments commemorated the city's great men. The teeming heart of ancient Rome, it has been called the most celebrated meeting place in the world, and in all history. Located in the small valley between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills, the Forum today is a sprawling ruin of architectural fragments and intermittent archaeological excavations attracting 4.5 million sightseers yearly]
