Weird Things in Georgia: Goats on the Roof a roadside attraction where you can feed the goats

Weird things in Georgia like this roadside attraction Goats on the Roof in Tiger, GA make for an interesting roadside attraction featuring alien goats with a gift shop full of goat items. Goats on the Roof in Tiger Georgia gives you the chance of actually feeding goats along with offering some good items to feed humans with food such as fudge, chocolate and ice cream along with other snacks. This is an interesting spot to stop off to find weird things in Georgia on during a vacation adventure on your way to the Smoky Mountains. The Tiger, GA location of Goats on the Roof is the original Goats on the Roof and there are other Goats on the Roof locations around the country with the biggest and best one being in Pigeon Forge, TN (where they also offer a mountain coaster) and another one in Helen, GA. Visit Goats on the Roof and feed the goats and enjoy a fun time as you shop for goat t-shirts, goat hats, stuffed goats and all manner of things you never knew you needed in a goat design.

Pappy's Plaza Roadside Attraction in Blairsville, Georgia

There's few places as unique and strange as Pappy's Plaza located outside of the mountain town of Blairsville, Georgia. In it's heyday the place was even more of a roadside attraction than now, but either way its worth a visit. The site now houses a moonshine distillery and a few gift shops.

NORA MILL GRANARY GRIST MILL WATERFALL | Helen Georgia | Georgia Roadside Attractions

Established in 1876, Nora Mill Granary is an operational gristmill sitting alongside the Chattahoochee River in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. At Nora Mill, we utilize the original 1,500-pound French Burr Mill Stones powered by the Chattahoochee River to grind and produce corn and wheat-based products such as stone ground grits, cornmeal, pancake & waffle mixes, flours, biscuit & bread mixes, pioneer's porridge, and items of the like.
In addition, we have an old-fashioned country store & gift shop that we have named Nora Mill General Store”. The General Store is stocked with thousands of old fashioned items such as candy, jams & jellies, cast iron & speckle ware, honey, and various kitchen items. We have a kitchen in the mill to cook and serve samples of our mill & store products.

HAUNTED TUNNEL FULL TOUR | Tunnel Hill, Georgia | Georgia Roadside Attractions

Tunnel
The Western & Atlantic Railroad was founded in 1836 to connect the Tennessee and Chattahoochee Rivers, however one barrier stood in northwest Georgia: Chetoogeta Mountain. With scaling the mountain being out of the question, tunneling through was the only solution.

Construction on the tunnel began in the summer of 1848 and with it came an influx of workers. The tunnel, which spans 1,477 feet was completed in less than 22 months and on May 9, 1850, the first Western and Atlantic locomotive passed through the tunnel and the connection between Chattanooga, Tennessee and the new town of Atlanta, Georgia was complete.

While in operation, the tunnel was controlled by both the Union and Confederate Armies at various times throughout the Civil War and even witnessed the “Great Locomotive Chase” in April of 1862.

As the demand for more railways grew, so did the trains themselves and by 1926, so many train cars were getting stuck in the tunnel that the decision was made to build a larger parallel tunnel through the mountain, ending the use of the W&A tunnel in 1928.

The tunnel faced possible destruction from 70 years of neglect until, in 1992, steps were taken to preserve it. The tunnel was re-opened to the public in 2000, just in time for its 150th anniversary. As we approach the 170th anniversary in 2020, we invite you to come explore this engineering marvel!
