Come along with us as we spend the day exploring our 3 favorite places on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Tortola, the entrance to the British Virgin Islands, has gorgeous white-sand beaches, incredible restaurants along the water, and some of the best beach bars in the Caribbean.
The three places we visited were:

- Cane Garden
We had dinner in Road Town at a fantastic Italian restaurant, Capriccio di Mare!

The charming 60 British Virgin Islands are all about sailing, diving, fishing, and soaking up the sun on gorgeous beaches. Tortola's largest island is a 12 by a 3-mile paradise of white sand, lush green mountains, ruins, and rum distilleries. Tortola is also home to the capital, Road Town. Dramatic Virgin Gorda beckons you into underwater caverns. On mellow Jost Van Dyke, where swim-up bars serve delectable rum cocktails, island time prevails. Visitors are drawn to the lovely coral island of Anegada by its pristine beaches. Where is it?
If you are wondering, where on earth is the British Virgin Islands?
East of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean is the British Virgin Islands (BVI), a British overseas territory. The Virgin Islands archipelago includes the islands. Along with more than 50 other smaller islands and cays, the British Virgin Islands comprise the four main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke. The number of inhabited islands is around 15. Tortola, the largest island, measures approximately 12 miles (19 km) in length and 3 miles (5 km) in width. About 22,000 people are living on the islands as a whole. The capital of Tortola is in Road Town.

Road Town, British Virgin Islands - Exploring Tortola and a Visit to Cane Garden Bay ????????
Our visit to Road Town on the beautiful island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands ????
Road Town in the British Virgin Islands was a port of call on our Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Seaview. Lots of cruise lines other than @msccruises stop in Tortola.
We actually had 2 stops in Road Town. On the first one, we did a cruise excursion which took us on a tour of the island of Tortola and to Cane Garden Bay Beach. On the second visit, we spent some time exploring Road Town.
Road Town is the capital of the British Virgin Islands and is the main port on the island of Tortola. Most cruise ships visiting the islands dock here. The cruise port is called Tortola Pier Park and there's lots of great shops and restaurants.
Tortola Pier Park leads you straight out into downtown Road Town. It's a small enough city so it's easy to explore on foot. The locals are friendly and they won't bother you trying to sell you things like in other ports.
Our excursion took us around the island of Tortola taking in views of the surrounding islands. We spent a few hours at Cane Garden Bay Beach which boasts one of the finest beaches in the Caribbean. The picturesque bay has restaurants and bars dotted along the beach. It's the perfect location to watch the sunset over the Caribbean.
Road Town is a small enough but there are some sights if you want to have a look around. Old Government House is a museum which gives some great history of the island and the role of the British Virgin Islands as a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.
The JR O'Neal Botanical gardens are small but quite beautiful. The 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works tell the history of sugar production on the island however the museum was closed because of hurricane damage when we visited.
I enjoyed walking around Road Town and taking in the atmosphere. It's a quaint city and the people are friendly. There's not a whole lot in the way of landmarks and attractions but it's worth seeing. Further afield in the British Virgin Islands, there's beaches, rainforests and the other islands to explore. ????️

Cane Garden Bay Beach, Tortola, British Virgin Islands August 2022
in this video we travel from the cruise port to Cane Garden Bay Beach. We check out what snorkeling at the beach is like.
Cane garden Bay is located on the northern side of the island of Tortola. Many people compare it to magens Bay in St. Thomas, but I personally thought it was really different. If you want to see Magens Bay please see my video below.
Note: We were not charged for the loungers but I think that is because we were buying stuff at the bar.

EXPLORING THE PORT OF TORTOLA BVI & DINNER AT LE BISTRO!
For day 5 of our NCL Encore cruise we visited Road Town Cruise Pier in Tortola British Virgin Islands (BVI). We make some observations about the wheelchair accessibility as we explored the shops in the port and surrounding area. We then hop back on board for another spectacular lunch in the Haven Restaurant. Since it was a short day in Tortola we knew it would be a high probability that we would see pier runners. Sure enough we did!! Although the weather was a bit windy and overcast, we had an relaxing afternoon lounging in the Haven pool area.
We had an enjoyable dinner in the Specialty French Restaurant, Le Bistro, where we enjoyed escargot, lump crab salad, veal, and filet. The evening came to a wrap after the special, one-time-only, Christmas Cabaret led by members of the shows. The performances were amazing followed by a fun sing-along involving the audience. What a great way to get in the Christmas spirit!
