Tips For Visitors to Rwanda

Tips For Visitors to Rwanda
Overview of the land of a thousand hills. East of Lake Kivu, one of Africa's Great Lakes, and relatively small and landlocked, Rwanda is a highland nation in Central Africa. Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burundi were its neighbours'.
Population:- 11.5 million people call Rwanda home as of 2016; this country has one of the greatest densities of people in Sub-Saharan Africa. The largest and capital city is Kigali (est. pop. 1 million people). Speaking languages include English, French, Kinyarwanda (the national language of Rwanda), and Swahili, which is widely used in the African Great Lakes region.
Rwanda is a presidential republic with a multi-party system. Head of State and Head of Government is the President. The President is elected by popular vote every seven years; he appoints the Prime Minister and all other members of Cabinet.
Climate:- Mild and temperate climate with two seasons of rain (February to April, November to January). The greatest time to visit Rwanda is between June and September, when it's drier and you have a better chance of seeing the mountain gorillas, the nation's undisputed top attraction.
Currency: Franc of Rwanda (RWF). Before leaving, check the exchange rate.
Popular Dishes:- Ugali: This is a paste that is made from maize and water which when mixed together forms porridge. Ugali is not only popular in Rwanda; it is also a favourite dish throughout eastern Africa. Ibihaza: This dish is made from cut-up pumpkin that is mixed with beans and is then boiled. Isombe: This meal combines mashed cassava leaves with dried fish. Matolie: This is a meal made from baked or steamed plantains.
Drink:- Fruit juices, wine, and beer are some of Rwanda's favourite libations. The commercial beers Primus, Mutzig, and Amstel are among them. Although there is a sizable commercial brewery in Rwanda, many individuals prefer to make their own beer and alcoholic drinks. Beer known as urwagwa is produced by fermenting bananas with sorghum flour. Last but not least, ubuki is an alcoholic beverage created from fermented honey that has a 12% alcohol level. Beer is typically consumed by guys and is frequently included in rituals. Adults must be at least 18 years old to purchase alcohol.
Personal Security:- For some years now, the nation has been regarded as one of the safest in all of Africa. According to the report, Rwanda has made significant investments in its national security by creating capable and experienced security organisations.

A Tourist guide to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda

My arrival into the Rwandan capital coincided with the 18th anniversary of the Genocide. I check into the Top Tower Hotel and see the sights, including a city centre walk, a trip on the back of a motorbike taxi, a visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre, and a beer in the Milles de Collines, the hotel made famous by the movie 'Hotel Rwanda'.

If you’ve ever dreamed of tracking gorillas on the same misty slopes once trodden by Dian Fossey or Sigourney Weaver, go to Rwanda. And while you’re about it, don’t forget that there is much to see there besides gorillas.

Rwanda ranks among the world’s most exciting emergent ecotourism destinations. Few would have expected it 20 years ago, when a long-simmering civil war erupted into a tragic genocide in which up to a million people died. But almost two decades of subsequent political stability have seen Rwanda emerge as one of the most economically vibrant and socially progressive countries in Africa.

Rwanda’s top draw is of course the mountain gorillas that inhabit the misty slope of the Virunga Volcanoes along its northern border. Arguably the most exciting and moving wildlife encounter you'll ever experience, it starts with a tense ascent through fertile volcanic slopes dense with cultivation, into a hushed montane forest of impenetrable bamboo skyscrapers and fragrant hagenia stands, until finally you come face to face with one of these extraordinary creatures: a barrel-headed silverback, no taller than an average human, but thrice as bulky, hot soft brown eyes staring questioningly into yours, as if seeking a connection. It's a truly awesome experience – inspirational, emotional, and profoundly satisfying.

Rwanda is the world’s premier gorilla-tracking destination. But there is much to see there besides gorillas. The mountain-ringed inland sea that is Lake Kivu; the immense Nyungwe Forest National Park with its chimpanzees, monkeys and rare birds; the wild savannah of Akagera National Park – and, perhaps above all, the endless succession of steep cultivated mountains that have justifiably earned Rwanda the soubriquets ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ and ‘The Switzerland of Africa’. It’s a wonderful place to visit.

8 INCREDIBLE things to do in Kigali for under 15 USD

Kigali, Rwanda, is definitely one of the cleanest cities in Africa, if not the cleanest. A couple decades ago, most people had written Rwanda off but a visit to the country's capital opened my eyes to this gem! The city is set up on a landscape of hills hence the tag-name 'The City of A Thousand Hills' which makes for splendid viewing especially at night when the lights give the illusion of a city sprinkled by starlight. I spent a couple of days in Kigali and came up with 8 things anyone can do in Kigali under 15 USD that include:

- A motari city ride.
- Eating 'akabenz' which is a popular dish among the locals.
- Renting a mushanana; cultural dress for locals.
- Visiting the INEMA Arts Center
Among many other enjoyable activities guaranteed to make you experience and enjoy the Rwandese way of life. Have you ever been to Kigali? Is it on your travel bucketlist?

10+ Things Rwandan Hotels Could Improve On | Work Trip | Kigali

Coffee is important!! :D

The criticism part starts at around 5:52. Maybe I'm on the road a little too long at that point - small issues start to get to me /o.
Rwanda was really nice, especially because the food was really good and the people were really nice and welcoming. We had many social gatherings and I was able to see Kigali, some cafés, downtown and surrounding areas.

Kigali, Rwanda - Sights and Sounds

Rwanda is known as the Land of A Thousand Hills for good reason. Traveling around the capital of Kigali, we were constantly surrounded by lush, rolling hills - simply stunning. This beauty, of course, masks a tragic past. One of the highlights of our trip was when three women - who lived through the 1994 genocide - asked to sing for us, their voices joyous, despite the horrors they lived through.
