10 Best Places to Visit in Romania - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

Located on the Balkan Peninsula, Romania is a country of contrasts. The former Soviet Bloc country has, over the years, belonged to the Romans who gave the country its name, the Hungarians and the Ottomans. It is filled with quaint old towns, mountain resorts that offer great skiing, and a burgeoning art community. It’s most famous citizen, however, may be the vampire Dracula, a fictional character found in Transylvania. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Romania:

Bucharest Travel Guide - Romania Magical Time

Bucharest Travel Guide - Romania Magical Time

Bucharest (Bucureşti) is Romania's capital and largest city, as well as the most important industrial and commercial center of the country. With 2 million inhabitants in the city proper and more than 2.4 million in the urban area, Bucharest is one of the largest cities in Southeastern Europe, the largest city between Berlin and Istanbul. Bucharest is the 6th largest city in the European Union by population within city limits, after London, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, and Paris.

Bucharest is the primary entry point into Romania. Bucharest is a booming city with many large infrastructure projects changing the old face of the city. Known in the past as The Little Paris, Bucharest has changed a lot lately, and today it has become a very interesting mix of old and new that has little to do with its initial reputation. Finding a 300 year old church, a steel-and-glass office building and Communist-era apartment blocks next to one another is a common sight. Bucharest offers some excellent attractions, and has, in recent years, cultivated a sophisticated, trendy, and modern sensibility that many have come to expect from a European capital. Bucharest has been undergoing major construction and modernization works in recent years, such as the Basarab Overpass and the National Arena. Bucharest has benefited from an economic boom along with the EU grants that have helped rebuild neglected parts of the city, such as the historic Lipscani area.

Bucharest, owing to its position in the Romanian Plain, has a humid continental climate with cold winters, hot summers and moderate rainfall (640 milimeters on average). Winters are damp, snowy and very cold.

Bucharest has one of the most extensive systems of public transport in Europe, even though it can sometimes be confusing and crowded. Note that most of the neighborhoods and urban areas are known and called using the name of the nearest Metro station. The other well-known areas without Metro stations are Dorobanţi in the Northeast, Drumul Taberei (Metro network under construction) in the West, Rahova and Ferentari in Southwest (best avoided) and Lipscani - the old city centre situated between Unirii and Universitate Square.

Major brand-name shops and upscale boutiques are concentrated along the main boulevard from Piaţa Romană to Piaţa Unirii and on the small streets adjacent to this boulevard, but also on Calea Victoriei, on Calea Dorobanţilor (the part between Blvd. Iancu de Hunedoara and Piaţa Dorobanţilor) or on Calea Moşilor's section between Blvd. Carol I and Piaţa Obor.

Prices usually go anywhere from €5-7 to €30-40 for high-end dining for a single person menu consisting of a meal (most places offer €5-7 Euros menus that include an Entree, Main Dish and Dessert or a Drink) and a soft drink. The most popular fast-food is undoubtedly Shaorma, with hundreds of places selling it in almost every Square, Mall or street crossroads.

Bucharest also has many parks, such as Herăstrău Park, Carol Park, Cișmigiu Gardens, Tineretului Park, Titan/Alexandru Ion Cuza Park, Izvor Park, Grădina Icoanei Park, Circului Park, Moghioros/Drumul Taberei Park, National Park, Tei Park, Eroilor Park, Crângași Park. Other green attractions are the Bucharest Botanical Garden and Văcărești Nature Park, a nature park containing the wetlands surrounding Lake Văcărești.

Bucuresti (Romania) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Bucuresti in Romania.
The capital of Romania, Bucharest, the Paris of the East. Founded by Prince Dracula and transformed from a dictatorship into a fine metropolis. In between embellished Classical and Baroque facades, as well as playful Art Nouveau, are many splendid historic buildings. In Bucharest’s Old Town are the ruins of the Old Royal Court in which Vlad Tepes resided. In 1456, Vlad The Impaler, also known as Dracula, came to power as Prince Of The Walachei. On the other side of the Dâmboviţa River is Romania’s last dictator’s impressive and once-fearsome building, the Palace Of Parliament. Close by is the National Opera House which was founded in 1998 and created as a multi-functional complex. The Templul Coral is the largest and most beautiful synagogue in Bucharest where more than a hundred thousand Jews once lived. The Jewish Cemetery is now a sad sight as it has become overgrown and neglected. The large cemetery in the south of the city is an impressive symbol of death and a work of emotion and nostalgia. Monumental mausoleums, artistic wooden crosses and touching sculptures decorate the final resting place of prominent personages. The historic Orthodox Cemetery is the national pantheon that Baron Bellu had designed in the mid-nineteenth century. Bellu, who also became Romania’s Minister Of Culture And Justice, donated his garden in which the foundation of the cemetery was laid in November, 1852. Situated at the intersection of East and West, Bucharest is a pulsating city, a cosmopolitan metropolis with abundant art and culture, churches, museums and palaces: the pride of the nation’s honour regained!

Top 7 Attractions in Bucharest (Romania- The Most Popular)

Romania is a very beautiful in Eastern Europe, and it’s capital, Bucharest, should be on top of your list of cities to visit. Here are a few highlights:
-Romanian Atheneaum
-The Triumphal Arch
-Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum
-National Museum of Art
-Herastrau Park
-Revolution Square
-The Parliament Palace

If you like the video and want to see more about Romania, check our social media:

-Romanian Atheneaum
Home to the Romanian George Enescu Philharmonic, the stately Romanian Athenaeum is the city's most prestigious concert hall. The 19th-century building, designed by French architect Albert Galleron, resembles an ancient Greek temple with a 41-meter-high dome and a peristyle of six Ionic columns. The interiors feature a lobby of intricately painted gold-leaf ceilings, cascading balconies, and spiral marbled staircases. The 652-seat auditorium is known for its excellent acoustics and its fine art. A 70-meter-long and three-meter-high fresco that winds its way around the circular hall proudly depicts scenes from Romania's history.

-The Triumphal Arch
Arcul de Triumf is a triumphal arch located in the northern part of Bucharest, on the Kiseleff Road.
The first, wooden, triumphal arch was built hurriedly, after Romania gained its independence (1878), so that the victorious troops could march under it. Another arch with concrete skeleton and plaster exterior of elaborate sculptures and decoration designed by Petre Antonescu was built on the same site after World War I in 1922. The arch exterior, which had seriously decayed, was replaced in 1935 by the current much more sober Neoclassical design, more closely modelled in the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The new arch, also designed by Petre Antonescu and executed in stone, was inaugurated on 1 December 1936.
The arch has a height of 27 metres. It has as its foundation a 25 x 11.50 metres rectangle. The sculptures with which the facades are decorated were created by famous Romanian sculptors such as Ion Jalea and Dimitrie Paciurea.

-Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum
The Village Museum had in its early days an area of 4.5 hectars of land and hosted 33 authentic household assemblies, transferred from researched villages: houses with annex buildings, a church , a triptych religious monument, technical installations and a swing set.
Nowadays, the Village Museum has 9 hectars, and an increased number of collection pieces. The open-air patrimony gains new showpieces, reaching to number of 62 ensembles of vernacular architecture (as compared to 33 back in 1936), with a number of 223 buildings (40 houses, 165 household annexes, 3 churches, 15 technical installations and craft workshops), summarizing an inventory of over 17.000 units.

-National Museum of Art
In this museum you will find some of the most remarkable collections include the Elena and Dr. Iosif Dona collection, the Alexandra and Barbu Slatineanu collection of Romanian folk art or the prof. Garabet Avakian and Marcu Beza collections of Oriental Art. The museum is a repository of works of important Romanian painters, such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Nicolae Tonitza, Stefan Luchian, Gheorghe Petrascu, Ioan Andreescu. Rare Turkish carpets and Bukhara embroideries are on display.

-Revolution Square
Revolution Square (Romanian: Piața Revoluției) is a square in central Bucharest, on Calea Victoriei. Known as Piața Palatului (Palace Square) until 1989, it was later renamed after the Romanian Revolution of December 1989. The former Royal Palace (now the National Museum of Art of Romania), the Athenaeum, the Athénée Palace Hotel, the University of Bucharest Library and the Memorial of Rebirth are located here. The square also houses the building of the former Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party (from where Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife fled by helicopter on December 22, 1989). In 1990, the building became the seat of the Senate and since 2006 it houses the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform.

-The Parliament Palace
A colossal building, designed and supervised by chief architect Anca Petrescu (1949–2013), with a team of approximately 700 architects, and constructed over a period of 13 years (1984–97), it was built as a monument for a totalitarian kitsch style of architecture, in Totalitarian and modernist Neoclassical architectural forms and styles with socialist realism in mind. The Palace was ordered by Nicolae Ceaușescu (1918–1989), the dictator of Communist Romania and the second of two longtime autocrats in power in the country since World War II, during a period in which the personality cult of political worship and adoration was in full force for him and his family.
