The Gulf coast of Florida is absolutely exquisite! Venice, Florida, is one of our favorites, albeit the most overlooked place to visit when exploring the sunshine state. Although you won't find any palaces slowly sinking into the sea or the Grand Canal like you would over at its European counterpart, what you will find is a lovely little town with just a splash of Italian flare.
Venice has a quaint little downtown area that is easily walkable. As you explore, you’ll find plenty of interdependently owned and operated shops, boutiques, cafes, and galleries. Additionally, you’ll find several beautiful gardens and an abundance of shady trees, making this a fabulous place to go when you’re looking to spend a relaxing afternoon out on the town with a good friend.
One of Venice’s biggest draws are its pristine beaches. Venice has an outstanding collection of beaches within its city limits that are both great to go lounge out on and work on your tan as well as explore on foot getting lost in the beautiful scenery. Venice Beach is probably the most popular tourist hangout spots in Los Angeles. The beach is known for its hippie vibe and has something for everyone, from fitness enthusiasts to laid back stoners.
Also the great thing about Venice beach is that it has some super cheap food stalls so spending the entire day at the beach won't burn a hole in your pocket.
Here are things to do at Venice beach. These are some of the things I experienced when I went to Venice beach in early 2019, and I am hoping this will be fun for you too.

Watch Street Performances:
Venice beach is one great performance venue. Artistes from all over the US come down here to showcase their artistic abilities to thousands of people who walk up and down the beach every day. One of the best things to do on Venice beach is to watch out for these performances. Not each one of them will be to your liking, as they vary from entertaining to downright boring. But there is a good chance that you will witness a fun performance.
Cycle on the boardwalk from Venice beach to Santa Monica:
Another simple pleasure on Venice beach is cycling. The boardwalk is over 5kms and connects Venice beach with the Santa Monica Pier. I hired a tandem bicycle and rode it all the way to Santa Monica Pier and back with my wife, Sarika. Later, I took my mother on a short ride too. It was a fun couple of hours for us.
Take a dip in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean:
I think on a sunny day towards mid-day is a good time to take a quick dip in the waters at Venice beach. But beware, the water can be quite cold and I don't it is advisable to stay in for long without a wetsuit.
But taking a quick dip and running back into the sun is like a fun exercise. A bit like what the Russians do back home with the winter sun.
Enjoy a cheap, delicious slice of Pizza with Soda for less than 5 dollars
When it comes to food, the nice thing about Venice beach(unlike the rest of LA) is that there are many food stalls offering cheap and delicious street food. Options range from Tacos to Ice cream and what not.
What we liked the most was this stall run by a nice couple serving only basic(but superbly delicious) Pizza and some soft drink(or 'soda' as they call it in US). The best part was you couy get a combo for less than 5 dollars.
People watching:
Venice beach is a great place for something that we hardly do anymore. That is sit and stare(only thing, don't make others awkward with your state's). Basically, Venice beach is a great place to people watch as it attracts all kinds of people - fitness enthusiasts, skateboarders, surfers, hippies, fashionistas and many more.
Spending a couple of hours watching people on Venice beach will introduce you to more kinds of people than months would in most places on the planet. So take my word and when in Venice beach make some time to stand and stare :)
Enjoy the sunset:
With our busy lives, most of us forget that some of the greatest spectacles are offered by nature for free. Enjoying the sunset at Venice beach is one of them. It costs nothing and is more beautiful than most views you will come across in LA.
The best spots to enjoy the spectacle are at the far end of Venice beach away from Santa Monica. You could also climb some rocks and get a seat if you are feeling adventurous enough.

Venice beach is also known for its wall art and it would be a shame to miss them. Though, to be honest, it was already evening by the time I discovered it and could not enjoy it as mucbas I would have liked to.
Like they say, there's always a next time. In this case, I certainly hope there is.
