Best Times to Visit Dominican Republic for Vacation

The best times to visit Dominican Republic for vacation depend on avoiding certain months when rainfall jumps.

* Please SUBSCRIBE to get more videos *

More tips:

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC WEATHER TIPS
For Punta Cana, March and July are the most popular months for tourists to visit.

September and October are the most unpopular months because they are the peak months for the Caribbean hurricane season.

Rainfall and temperatures make March, April and July ideal months to visit Punta Cana.

Rainfall also makes October, followed by May and November as the worst months to visit. September is not far behind.

However, prices for resorts tend to decline in the fall because of the bad weather.

The Punta Cana weather forecast usually calls for warm and beautiful days, but there are times when it is not so beautiful.

This resort enclave in the Dominican Republic is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. In fact, the country is known for its all-inclusive resorts and beautiful beaches.

Because of the resorts and beaches, visitors often stay on property for the entire vacation and take advantage of Punta Cana's typical Caribbean weather.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
The average monthly high temperature is less than 85 degrees Fahrenheit and average low is less than 74 degrees, the World Meteorological Organization says.

On a day-to-day basis, however, the actual temperature can vary widely.

Temperatures stay in a narrow range throughout the year with an average high of 87 degrees in August and September compared to an average high of 82 degrees in January and December.

Water temperatures remain warm and comfortable as a result.

Temperatures that stay above 80 degrees during the day year round make Punta Cana an attractive Caribbean destination even during the winter.

AVERAGE RAINFALL
Rainfall in Punta Cana is normal for most places in the Caribbean. The monthly average is 3.6 inches, while typically it rains about 9.5 days during month.

Rainfall jumps to nearly five inches in May, which is the month with the second most rain during the year.

October sees the heaviest average rainfall with six inches total. June, August, September and November also have higher than average amounts of rain.

February and March have the least rain, averaging about 2 inches each. It rains less than seven days a month, another low point for the year, in February through April, which makes the spring time a good time to go.

10 Awesome Things To Do in the Dominican Republic

Get more Tips here!

The Dominican Republic can be a gorgeous getaway for travelers of every stripe. Of course, as with any foreign travel, it’s important to do your homework before you get on the plane. Here’s how to make the most of it.

1. Check Out Historical Santo Domingo
You should think about taking a day to explore Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas. Several day-long tours will take you to all the most exciting sites in this historical city. There’s plenty to experience in Santo Domingo.

2. Don’t Drink the Water
Play it safe. The drinking water in the Dominican Republic is mostly unclean, so you should avoid drinking any water that doesn’t come directly from a sealed bottle. Stay hydrated, but spring for the bottled stuff.

3. Take it Easy on the Coconut
If you want to avoid hugging the toilet for one of your days, you might want to take it easy on the coconut-themed drinks. While delicious, coconuts also act as a laxative. Exercise a little bit of caution.

4. Visit Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve
Several hotels in the area offer free access to the reserve, which means you can enjoy some of the most pristine natural offerings the Dominican Republic has to offer.

5. Stroll Through the National Botanical Garden
It’s easy to lose yourself among this gorgeously curated selection of greenery that’s filled with carefully chosen plants and birds. Learn about the botany of the Dominican Republic, even as you enjoy the aesthetic beauty that abounds.

6. Visit the Alcazar de Colon at Night
This imposing Spanish castle was built by the son of Christopher Columbus in 1510. It’s especially breathtaking at night. And thanks to the abundance of se-curity personnel around the palace, you don’t need to be concerned about safety when the sun goes down.

7. Take a Dip at Hoyo Azul
This Punta Cana destination will surprise you at every turn. Hoyo Azul is a la-goon plopped at the bottom of a 65-meter-high cliff. Swimming is open to visi-tors, so be sure to spend a little time dipping your toe in Hoyo Azul’s turquois water.

8. Take a Tour With Hispaniola Aquatic Adventures
Whether you check out a sunset or you merely hit the water for a maritime ex-cursion, this company is renowned for its service from tourists of all shapes and sizes. Whether you take a larger 20-person trip or you opt for something semi-private, you won’t be disappointed.

9. Think Twice About Water Sports
The Dominican Republic doesn’t have the same exacting standards of safety as the United States. So travel insurance is never a wrong decision. You can still find some great options in the DR to get your watersports fix, just make sure to double check before you sign up.

10. Go to the Hard Rock Casino
You can get a respite from the sun at the Hard Rock Casino in Punta Cana. The 45,000-square-foot casino is a little slice of Vegas smack dab in the middle of paradise. The staff is friendly, the tables are immaculate, and there’s plenty of fun to be had. There’s no Hard Rock Cafe, though …

The Definitive Guide to Tipping

The Definitive Guide to Tipping

My first thought, when asked to write about tipping at all-inclusive resorts, was “match, meet powder keg” — boom! Tipping at an all-inclusive resort, controversial

Why?

The anti-tipping crowd will remind us that tips are included in the price tag for an all-inclusive resort vacation. Tips are included; I’ve already paid my tips

The tipping crowd has 2 major motivators at play. 1 is better service & 2 to help the local economy.

I confess right now, I am a tipper. Tippers do it for 2 reasons, 1st perceived better service, and 2nd to boost the local economy

Like many Americans, I don’t do it for special attention. I expect to be pampered at an all-inclusive resort and if the service is lousy I won’t be back.

I do it because some resorts are staffed by locals; many of them live in poverty. It’s just a stone cold fact that some of the world’s most beautiful beaches are located in some of the poorest areas on earth.

I do it to help the local economy. Beautiful beaches in some of the poorest places

Off-resort money helps the local economy

It’s the same reason I do excursions, shop, and dine outside the resort walls. It puts money in the local folk’s pockets.

Tips on tipping sensible guide to tipping

Know the resort policy resort policy may harm employees

Employee consequences - job loss

Allowed – keep it small keep it small

Beach or pool attendant $1 per ¾ rounds drinks, more frequent w/food

Or big party, more for obnoxious

Be discreet, might cause a prob with supervisor or non-tippers be discreet.

It’s a thank you, not charity … give with the right attitude/spirit tip in the right spirit

Housekeeping $2 per day at end of week – envelope labeled for housekeeping

Bonus pts for writing thank you for taking such good care … native language thank you native language

To tip or not to tip at an all-inclusive resort is a personal decision. Listen to your gut and you’ll know. At the end of the day, vacations are all about feeling good about yourself and your vacation.

Use your head, your heart & gut

I’m bashful Dan, never too shy to give you my opinion …

The choice is yours between zip lining, swimming in freshwater sinkholes and exploring caves. Spread out over 247 acres, there are breathtaking jungle views and action-packed things to do in Punta Cana in equal measure.

Choose your full-day Scape Park activities

Your day of excitement begins with morning pick-up in comfortable, air-conditioned transportation from your Punta Cana resort to Scape Park. Once you’re there, prepare for a full day of adventure in a gorgeous, nature-filled setting! Get in touch with the Dominican countryside by choosing any of the following activities:

One of the best ways to explore the lush jungle is by gearing up with a harness and taking off on a zip line. Soar through the Dominican canopy as you zoom from platform to platform and feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. Add aquatic exhilaration to your full-day adventure by taking on the Zip Line Eco Splash, which involved zipping at high speed into the water!

Explore a cave and refresh in a sinkhole

Your full day at Scape Park can also take you to two of Punta Cana’s most beautiful natural wonders — Iguabonita Cave and Hoyo Azul sinkhole. Channel your inner geologist as you explore the underground rock formations of Iguabonita, whose stalactites and stalagmites took thousands of years to take shape.

Later, come back to the sunlight and discover the world-famous Hoyo Azul, a freshwater sinkhole with amazing blue colors and more marvelous rock formations that invite you for a refreshing dive. To revamp your energy after all your swimming and exploration of the park’s exciting activities, enjoy lunch from the buffet restaurant.

Add on a cruise on the Caribbean

If you’re still in need of more fun, there’s an optional activity that will add to your great day — taking a Caribbean cruise out to sea for an additional fee ($20 USD per person). When your exciting day wraps up, take a relaxing ride back to your Punta Cana resort as you remember the thrills and exploration at Scape Park. These are the best things to do in Punta Cana!

Are All Inclusive Resorts Worth It? Punta Cana - DR

We recently took a 4 night Groupon down to an all inclusive resort near Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This getaway was airfare included and cost us only $750 per person (from Atlanta).

We priced out this vacation without the use of the vacation express voucher, and the total cost would have been anywhere from $1300 to $1500, so the package deal was definitely worth it.

Bottom line - these resorts are great for relaxing, but plan something for at least half the day (excursions), and never pay full price, otherwise you might be disappointed.
